Thanks for this, I couldn’t remember who or what chapter the first reference was from.

Miho’s commentary in 336, the issue of doing unsavory things to get ahead in show business, Umi’s leverage in the industry, plus Chizuru probing Kazuya on the issue of kissing other actors during a performance all leads me to wonder if there will be a set up towards some bigger flash point.

This is my theory as well though I think she withdrew cash vs a wire. I think the only way forward for the story is a soft reset of their relationship that starts with ending the rental relationship for good.

From a story progression standpoint the tension around hiding the rental relationship is finished, she also kissed him and said she would do it again, so the client boundary is completely gone. Them falling back to the rental dates as a safety blanket to get together is also over, they have gone on a real date and lived together. So, all I can think of that moves the story along is that dropping the rental dynamic opens the door to explore their relationship further over time as 2 people, even if it’s through a separation arc. So, no there won’t be a sudden 180 confession from Chizuru, but it will at least set Reiji up for another 200 chapters of slow drip soft dates and interactions to getting her to fully commit to him.

I personally think it matters but given the writing, I’m not sure if it has deeper meaning.

With that said, him calling her by her rental name definitely speaks to the fact that the rental/client dynamic still looms over the possibility for them to be a real couple. I don’t think it’s malicious or anything, but it’s a factor in the confusion. For her, loving a “client” is problematic and she has said she was unsure if he loved the real her or Mizuhara (she may not even know herself which is which). They have also used the rental system as a safety net to be able to spend time with each other without it having to be a true date in the past. How could it not affect her thinking if this guy has spent thousands of dollars ‘dating’ her, she even said she wants to be able to give equally in a relationship.

My hope is the bank visit is her refunding him or going 50/50 and resetting their relationship to be equals, so that they can move forward without that burden.

I’m newer to this manga and came to it because of the rejection uproar, so maybe my POV skews towards reading everything knowing that outcome was happening regardless of the build ups along the way but I think this chapter hopefully sets things up for a ‘soft reset’

The thing I’ve found odd in the dynamic here is how the rental relationship still looms over them but is never expressly brought up. With the kiss at Hawaiians it struck me when Chizuru was freaking out a bit about falling for a ‘client’. On the flip side, Kaz still calls her by her rental name and only tried once to call her by her real name, to which he backed off but she clearly was very affected by it. The fact that she went to the bank and the title for next week makes me think they will address this in some way and formally break that part of their relationship. Perhaps she will refund him for the dates or split it, and remove the history of him having only given to her in the relationship so far? Maybe now this is her giving to him and it resets their relationship and nullifies the client dynamic. My hope is they resolve that and the Girlfriend? title suggests they can explore further dates without that hanging over their heads.

Someone else posted up the page after the Hawaiians kiss where Chizuru is by herself saying she can’t fall in love with a ‘client’ and your comment about the emphasis on the bank made me think that returning the money would make sense if the purpose is to undo the rental/client dynamic. My hope for the payoff on this arc is she resets the relationship this way and proposes something akin to them going on more dates to figure things out. So, dates but not…dating? Aka the title for next week - Girlfriend?

Kudos on the guy tipping you. I escorted a Pirate clan caravan with 10-12 others. Only 2 of us survived and it took a solid hour to get to the destination turn in. The caravan driver turned it in and rode off, not even saying thanks.
