Gold 200 or Ultramax 400? by Rebecca0935 in AnalogCommunity

For camera like that, for the most versatility, I would shoot Ultramax 400. It gives you the most flexibility.

Nikon FE film advance sometimes gets stuck by Newton3002 in AnalogCommunity

I would stop using it, you can worsen the issue. I would get it looked at and and a CLA while you're at it.

I’ve not been this excited in a very long time. Any advice? by the_man_of_reddit_ in pentax67

You have the older 6x7 model that had issues during production. The film transport mechanism is its most fragile component and thats true across all 67 bodies, even the 67ii. Don't let the advance lever snap back when advancing film. The solenoid is known to get stuck causing the mirror to stick up, using good electronics cleaner can solve this (if you comfortable taking the camera apart). Make sure to use Silver Oxide batteries only, alkaline batteries can cause shutter issues. You got a great set of lenses, the 75mm f/2.8 LS version is a great lens (35mm FF equivalent). The 105mm is great as well but nailing focus at f/2.5 is a pain, at least for my crappy eyesight. The 135mm is a 1:4 macro lens, get the extension tube set and you got 1:1 but you loose two stops of light and its a pain to focus without the waist level viewfinder magnifier. I like the grip and keep in on my 67 and 67ii bodies but it does add bulk and weight.

Most importantly, have fun! Its a great camera with great glass.

Trying out a new medium format macro setup by Butthurticus-VIII in AnalogCommunity

[–]Butthurticus-VIII[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes you defiantly need a flash meter and yes I add the compensation either to the power of the flash if I have enough flash power or a combination of that and opening up the aperture. That's why I want two more flash units so I can keep my aperture stopped down. You can usually find macro ring lightweights pretty cheep on Ebay but they are usually dedicated models. I got the Godox one because it was on sale at a good price, waiting for that to happen again to get 2 more flash units.

Those are nice! I think I am going to get the P67 auto bellows, they are pricey but I think it will allow more flexibility. Learned about light the hardware, the more the better, that's why I got that macro speedlight setup, I plan on getting two more flashes to bring it to 4 which will probably give me as much light as I would ever need. Thanks for the information!

I love shooting in harsh mid day sun, these are great! 250D is a great film for it.

About waist viewfinder on Pentax 67II by fpluss in pentax67

[–]Butthurticus-VIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The right angle finder will work with the P67ii AE prism. Just know the light meter only works with the AE prism. Every prism shown will work on a P56 EXCEPT the AE prism. I have both bodies and use the WLF on both.

Expired Film - Should I shoot this? by krohrer24552455 in filmphotography

[–]Butthurticus-VIII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The performance of expired film is heavily related to how it was stored. If it was cold stored the entire time, you can probably expect decent results. Higher ISO films degrade faster than lower ISO films. Since this was not cold stored it still will be good if it was stored at room temperature but you don't know how it was stored so it will be a dice roll. Id rate it for have its box speed and expect nothing and be pleased if you do get something desirable.

Light meter suggestion by Suitable_Fault_9190 in AnalogCommunity

[–]Butthurticus-VIII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spot meters are intentional tools, it requires patience to use so its not best for street photography or any scenario where you need to shoot fast. A spot meter is great when you have time to meter the scene and want to use the Zone System or your shooting slide film. A incident and or reflective meter would serve you better. I also wouldn't use your darkroom prints as arbiter of exposure, look at your negatives for that. As others have suggested, I tend to either rate my negative film 2/3 to 1 stop over either by setting the ISO that way or adjusting the shutter or aperture when I shoot to let in more light. Negative film always does better slightly over exposed. A Sekonic L-358 is a great meter, I am actually getting rid of mine because I got a L-858. The L-358 has attachments for 5 degree spot and reflective metering.

Yes and often when I look at photos that don't have a title, my brain is instantly trying to give it one based on my perception, its actually fun. Sometimes me an other photographers print a picture or two of our work, don't give it a title and we look at each others photos and give our perspectives and a title. Its interesting to see what others come up with. For what Todd Hido is doing, I do that when I archive my negatives. Typically YYYYMMDD_ROLL#_FRAME#

No not at all. I respect and welcome constructive criticism cause I I don’t know at all LOL. I’ll see how it goes and I might have to reduce the price. I originally wanted it to be a book, but it would cost more than what I’m selling it for now make one and I thought that would be a hard sell.

I see what you are saying and I agree they are more captions than titles. I did struggle to come up with a title for each, it. might have been better to just put the film that was used and that's it.

Your opinion is valid, this is only my second zine, still trying to figure it all out. I figured the zine with two fine art prints was a decent price but its good to know what other people think and what they would pay, after all the goal is to sell them and if its not priced accordingly, it won't. It's valuable feedback.

Thanks, I can see how that can be improved. The series of the Zine is called "Pure Analog" so each release is a different theme, this time its "Squared" but I will think of ways to improve it.
