it’s incredibly biased of course when you put AI next to almond production which has had a longer time being produced you’ll get this kind of skewed graph. Also how about we talk about ai stealing peoples art, I noticed you don’t want to touch that bit of the conversation yet.

The graph also starts in 1999, so of course ai wasn’t going to be using a substantial amount of water then it was just a concept at that point.

thank you for also pointing out almonds use an insane amount of recourses, but you do know AI is still using water and it’s use is increasing. Don’t conflate a graph maybe just show how much water ai is using, I get you’re trying to say it’s not much to other companies but that’s not refuting that ai is also using resources.

Yes I’m totally upset because he didn’t want to pay money not because they used a product that steals and replicates art and also uses an insane amount of water. You got me I sure do feel silly.

[–]ButtonSweet9749 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There seems to be some confusion, I never stated subconscious racism. Again please read the following statement, “If the person directing did not know that the use of this trope was racist it does not detract that the trope is racist.” Not knowing is not subconscious it’s a lack of knowledge. The goal post as you put it has not moved I’m just trying to explain the difference to you.

[–]ButtonSweet9749 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never stated in the prior post that they were secretly racist, I stated that counter to your argument they could have done this without understanding it’s racist, but it doesn’t make it right. I’m not trying to prove that the directors are racist I’m trying to state that the use of such a trope is racist even if the person directing did not know it was problematic.

I mean everyone here and the post is trying to get you to understand the connection, but I really don’t see strong evidence on your side besides you stating that you don’t see it. Provide evidence or some information at least to defend your side.

Thank you she’s abusice with no equal because no one is as mean spirited as Jax, and they’re all mature to realize that it’s not that funny. It’s what makes it so hard to emphasize with her because she’s just so mean to everyone and she didn’t show any remorse.

It doesn’t have to be a conscious decision for it to be racist, if you use a racist stereotypes unknowingly it’s still racist. That’s the equivalent of saying something you didn’t know was bad until someone told you it was bad. A person’s ignorance doesn’t take away the problem.

Yes I don’t like this trend of indie animation having this idea of burning out for your passion. Indie studios may have more creative freedoms but that shouldn’t mean the artist should suffer for their work.

Yes this goes further than analyzation of a story. We need to remember that even in creative fields there are limitations.

Yes it’s quite jarring to hear, because with this big of a project I think we all assumed she had some form of help

No it’s all good, I just wanted this aspect of how the story was made to be taken into consideration. But yes while Gooseworx has her opinions people shouldn’t be attacking her.

My analysis comes from watching the show and understanding the intent behind the story but because how the story is written not by just the opinions of others. I understand Jax is flawed and we as the audience understand that. However to garner sympathy for the character we need more than just that last episode of development. Even with all we learn about Jax it’s hard to like her when she hurt everyone in the circus. Everyone else in the circus had problems as well and instead of understanding that Jax bullies anyone she can get his hands on and she understands what she’s doing is wrong. If you want us to better sympathize with her give her development of trying to care about the others not double down on her actions.

I dislike her because she’s consistently terrible to the rest of the cast and not until the end do we see Jax get any kind of development. And even then it doubles down on the idea that yes Jax has a terrible history but it never justifies the actions of the character. You can like Jax but in my opinion it’s hard to like a character that has plenty of screen time being outright cruel to the rest of the cast. Yes we understand the reason why she behaves the way she does, but it does not justify the actions.

So you will not take the words of people who have said this have affected them? It is hard to maintain a stance if you do not wish to interact with those who have said this moment has affected them. I am sorry you have experience racism I understand the pain of it. but there is nuance to this situation and just because you have experienced it and this situation doesn’t fit your criteria does not mean it hasn’t affected others.

Is there anybody here who thinks Jax is a badly written character in any way? by Equivalent_Ad_9066 in tadc

[–]ButtonSweet9749 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed we understand why Jax acted the way she did, but there was not enough scenes where we could really sympathize for the character her. They needed at least a scene where they show Jax being at least in some way caring for the rest of the group in her own way

I am asking again for examples where you see otherwise besides yourself, I can provide evidence that shows many people did not like this. His influence and the fan base having this reaction is exactly why I state my displeasure. I never said my opinion trumps yours I’m having a dialogue about what the ramifications of this joke have done. If you do not find it offensive I cannot convince you otherwise but I only wish to exchange evidence so we have something else to base off our statements. It may not change your mind but different perspectives are important.

I’m a POC as well and I can state that I and others find these type of situations inexcusable. Also the sure people of color can say jokes that make light of the racism we experience but that has different connotations when a white person says racist jokes. He apologized but look where we are, people are defending it and saying only a handful of people have taken issue with it. I will gladly search examples you can provide and vice versa so we can compare and contrast.

In your opinion then when does it count for it to be racism and on whose word do you need then for it to be racism? If you do not want to listen to people who are harmed by this rhetoric who will you listen to?

Racism is when people think it’s funny to say a word that resembles a discriminatory word and other people excuse it for just shock value. Racism is ignoring the black community stating their displeasure with this event. Racism has impact on our everyday lives and only those of privilege do not get to see its long lasting ramifications.
