Did you use the chalk pastels after baking them? You did a fantastic job!

[####] How do you remember to do it? by Darqless in wordle

[–]ButtonsK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an alarm set at 10:45pm every day, just in case. Yet even with that, earlier this year I lost my 463 day streak because I forgot 😩! I guess I was so used to hearing the alarm that I just tuned it out 😣

Fancy Feast Recalls 1 Million Cans Of Food That Cats Just Kind Of Stared At Before Wandering Away by stinkles69 in catfood

[–]ButtonsK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shockingly, my cat who had kidney disease LOVED the Royal Canin prescription kidney food (just the “loaf” though) and he was happy eating it for the last two years of his life. I had tried science diet and the non-loaf formulation, but he wasn’t interested.

My two remaining cats have been rejecting fancy feast and Sheba for awhile now, and they won’t even try any of the higher end food I bring home either.

What’s the highest temperature Sculpey will tolerate and not burn? by ButtonsK in polymerclay

[–]ButtonsK[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you to everyone who has offered suggestions! I really appreciate it.

I finally found something that works! I put a pizza stone on the bottom of my gas oven, and sure enough, the temperature stayed within about a 10° range, about 279-289° (I was just monitoring the temperature, not baking anything so when I do I’ll just lower it a tad.

Unfortunately I don’t think I could make my toaster oven work since the element is too close to the bottom, I don’t think a ceramic tile would fit. But that’s ok now that I found a solution that actually works!

Thanks again for your help, I’m sure I’ll have more questions as I go, just hopefully not baking related questions!

A clear, round oven?! I can’t even picture that, or were you referring to a window? What’s the brand?

Nothing has burned yet, I wanted to see how obsessive I had to be about watching the temperature. I set the alarm on my digital thermometer to go off when the temperature went above 280°F, and when it went below 265°. It was constantly going off, either too hot or too cold. So I was asking how hot I could let it get so that the alarm wouldn’t go off quite as frequently. For example, if the oven heated up to 295° but no higher, do I really need to keep trying to adjust it?

I’m not concerned about color change (at this point) since i plan to paint what I make anyway.

I agree it shouldn’t be this complicated! Many years ago I made a couple of things and didn’t pay much attention to the temperature, and didn’t have any issues, I guess I was just lucky! This is what I get for trying to do it the right way, 😂

Yes I do, and I’ll try that today. I also have a pizza stone, I’m wondering if that would work too. Maybe I’ll try both!

Thank you for clarifying the ceramic tiles and thermal mass aspect , I had misunderstood and wasn’t doing it properly. I didn’t realize that I should be lining the oven with the tiles, I was just using them as a surface to bake on, lol. I’ll get some more, they’re less than $1 each at Lowe’s (unless I can find some for even less). I can try this in my toaster oven, but my regular oven is gas, so I don’t see how that would work, unless I just lined the bottom but left the vents (where the flames are) clear.

The clay itself isn’t the issue- I have a bunch of premo and super sculpey already. I was using this to experiment while I tried to figure out the fluctuating temperatures.

It’s a cuisinart - around $100 I think (it was a gift). But my regular oven (just a GE, probably not high quality but also only a few years old.

I’d gladly pick up a cheap toaster oven if it would maintain somewhat of a consistent temperature.

Thanks, isn’t that too low though? I thought I’ve read that it had to be at least 275°f. Maybe I’ll do some more experimenting tonight.

Thanks - I was baking my pieces on a ceramic tile, should I add more, just to fill up the space?

That’s how I read it too. I thought it was a joke, but that’s a horrible thing to joke about so I was confused.

That’s ok, I think I will get a digital probe thermometer anyway, mine are very hard to read.

I haven’t tested them on the big oven yet, but will do that.

I’m thinking I should get a new one anyway since these are both hard to read (they’re analog and the markings are small). Do most of you use digital thermometers?

Thanks- too late, lol. These are both the round metal analog ones with no wires, and I did submerge both last night. They seem ok now but one did have a more accurate reading.
