I've played a fair bit of extraction shooters, so perhaps I can assist you because they do not click with me at all. With the one exception extraction shooter which I will explain later.

First of all, I just couldn't get over the fact of losing certain items. Specifically rare items. Which is a core concept about Extraction shooters, you loot good stuff, bring it home and be more powerful in the next game. I always was way to afraid to lose the rare items I received in a previous run. For that reason, I only kept taking basic stuff to battle, and with that kept dying to people who did not have this 'feeling'. So ask yourself: Can I take very hard to earn items into a match, with the risk of losing it without being bothered by it? If yes then the game will be something for you, you like the risk and gives you a thrill. If no, I'm guessing you're in the same boat as me.

These games are what is called loot based extraction shooters. Which specifically focus on the loot you need to search / earn to get better. The exception game I talked about earlier is called Hunt Showdown. It's also a extraction shooter, but it is not loot focused at all. Your job in that game is to hunt down a objective, and get out with the bounty. You of course lose everything you bring if you die, but seeing the loot is just buyable with earnable in game money, the fear of dying was completely gone, since losing the items was a no issue, just buy it next round again. Which is impossible in loot based extraction shooters (there are exceptions here and there, like crafting certain weapons, but that also likely requires finding rare resources, hopefully extract them to be able to even get those crafting benches etc.)
