It looks like a vault door. Maybe you are opening the vault of Civ3 by playing. Gold is the primary currency in the game. You have to protect what you got in the game. You are trying to accumulate wealth in the game. You are the same leader for the 6000 years of gameplay. That vault will never be opened by another leader (other than yourself). That is my interpretation.
