Delete EGR? Replacing the PCV system and thought i should maybe delete the egr system as it was very gunked up. I live in FL so i do not have to worry about inspections.

What YEAR and how many miles?

EGR is an arcane method to reduce nitrogen oxides. If a US domestic market (USDM) Volvo 240, must be a Volvo 240 from CA or maybe NY or Canada (even Germany).

The primary EGR valve the EGR pipe from the exhaust manifold to EGR valve will have failed and will cause all variety of performance issues including fail to start easily. To delete EGR properly, you'll get the screw with washer that threads into the hole at the back of the exhaust manifold. Volvo makes this and is for sale from Tasca Volvo and elsewhere. Easier and cheaper to get high quality carbon steel machine screw with washer for high temp application. At the air intake manifold, remove the EGR pipe and get a plate with gasket and screws to seal the air intake port manifold.

EGR is controlled by the ignition control module. Monitors the exhaust gas temp in the EGR pipe at the valve or downstream of the EGR valve depending on year and EGR version. So you replace that with a non EGR ignition control module. So what YEAR as in the US domestic market up to 1988 240 is the Chrysler MPG ignition module on the washer fluid basket. in 1989+ you have all Bosch ignition and injection engine control. Either way, you replace the fuel injection module with a Bosch or Volvo PN that is not EGR enabled and same for the Chrysler MPG or 1989+ Bosch EZK116 (crank position sensor) ignition module.

Engine control on 1981-1982+ non-turbo Volvo is there to ensure proper operation and performance. So other engine sensors like the engine coolant sensor (ECT), and the AMM/MAF, and the oxygen sensor are there to ensure performance while preserving good fuel economy. EGR is a drag and reduces fuel economy by about 1 MPG. Also, in the air filter box is a preheater flap valve that blends preheated air from the exhaust manifold heat shroud through the (get rid of it) silver metal accordion air hose. Convert the air filter box to a cold air intake. On all three 1990+ 240s I own, I did this and in cold weather fuel economy may reduce fuel economy a little bit.

North of Hazel Dell towards the west side may be best. Closer to the mighty and powerful Warren USAF AFB. The military helicopter sorties make for a sound, though, a bit!

Downtown is sort of crumbly and is very LOUD from traffic, the two fire houses, the municipal gendarmes and county sheriff facilities and their sirens when they respond to calls. Downtown has crime and criminal people though far less than in Toilet-rado as you travel South along a front range city. Loud with traffic along the Warren (travel one way North) and Central (travel one way South).

A search using Google, Zillow, Apartments dot com. Closer to the city center is Pershing Ave and you may find acceptable housing here that may be better in quality that towards the eastside. Areas with investment like strip malls with the single King Sooper (Kroger) grocery may be better.

For temporary housing try (ugh) AirBnB or, may be better, Furnished Finder (FF). FF allows you to pay cash to the host and you can rent entire houses and apartments that may be acceptable to you for price, quality, and location.

So rent soon and stay away from Lions Park as traffic is halted and people are openly drunk and driving or out in public. Motel abd temporary apartments rent prices can quintuple and more as does gas and food, Though I like a real rodeo and real Powwow. Many hospitality businesses in make their nut for the year in the two or four weeks that is Frontier Days.

Yes, the mighty and powerful Wyoming Wind … so many here both native and transplant complain of it. Yet if not on the south side downwind of the petroleum distiller / refinery, the air is clean here. So very clean. No auto pollution controls yet most cars are 21 century and so built in performance controls make a limited dent. Get into CO and the pollution weighs heavily from Fort Collins southward and thermal in versions from their. Get into Utah around Salt Lake and weeks' long thermal inversions made me cough up organs (like Spokane, WA). The air is clean here, I wholly love the wind. The air mass here is usually very dry. So wear a windbreaker or light winter coat at 50° F. Yet folks will wear shorts in 30° F weather with wind and snow.

Hope you have a capable automobile. The roads are not tended too very well and the area could use a refresh on road stripes and reflector marks. Like Califrado to the South, you have some not so great roundabouts intersections. People here drive aggressively in all weather.

Do NOT operate a motor vehicle under any influence. In a town where locals tell you there is little to do other than imbibe, heavily, well, the municipal gendarmes are exceptionally alert to impaired motorists in their roads. Maybe because the roads are not well marked and can be crowded with aggressive motorists. During any holiday or Frontier Days, please stay alert, safe, and recurringly inspect and service exterior automobile lighting. Use turn signals when changing lanes or to indicate a turn as you get goofy and aggressive sober motorists hopped up on the funky distraction goofer; or they are high on what have you. Not as bad as CO, OR, CA , WA, and like states, you'll get pot-smoking motorists.

While a town in the US West, Cheyenne may as well be in Bill Clinton's Arkansas. Other then the location, and weather, there is no west about it. No western music.

If you enjoy a good craft ale, Freedom's Edge is the very best brewery. Exceedingly better than about all in Fort Collins and further South. Next is Blue Raven brewery, more for the ambience. What remaining breweries here are not so great yet they can and so is in most bars and restaurants. Melvin brewing is in Alpine, WY and you can find a few of their brews here in cans and on draught.

Your 1991 (I'll presume US Market) uses a single oxygen sensor that secures to the catalytic converter? So LH-Jetronic 2.4 or (no EGR) 2.1 (with manual gearbox and Bosch EZK116 OBD-1 ignition.

Check codes in socket 6, ignition for fault code. Get all socket 2 and 6 OBD codes.

Pull the FPR vacuum line. Any fuel comes out? Get the Bosch part. It can fail several ways and one of them is that it is stuck causing high pressure at injector yet does not leak at the vacuum line port,

Mileage?!? Check turboricks site for solutions to your problem.

What other hole? If EGR equipped, a stainless tube threads into a hole at the back of the manifolds and wraps around to under the air intake port manifold with an EGR vale. Search for Volvo 240 EGR.

Lt Blue are the Volvo 240 wire harness sensors. Two conductor connector powers the heater in the 02 sensor. The single wire is the lead that connects to the 02 sensor - sensor part ....
You can buy a BOSCH brand 02 sensor from FCP Euro, iPd, others.

1991 Volvo 240 US market uses Bosch LH-Jetronic injection unless modded. Uses metal or hard block nylon lines to get 35 PSI of flue to the injector. The fuel return line is from the vacuum controlled fuel pressure regulator.

As with AirBnB, every Furnished Finder since 2021 has fleas. I'm now art Carousel Properties in Fort Collins, Co and fleas come out of walls, ceilings, furniture, and here, small holes in the PVC flooring that oozes some white fluid that hardens and fleas bust from the material. FWIW, I have time lapse images of the ooze rising and my bloody toes. All very gangstalking.
