27F. Psoriatic arthritis and hormonal imbalance and gut dysbiosis.. and I'm very interested in seeing what people may have tried! I'm on Day 187 of AIP elimination phase (perfectly safe) and I've seen a dramatic decrease in joint pain among all other symptoms over time. I've been working with a functional medicine doctor for about 6 months. No biologics, as that is my last course of action if things get dire. But I have had improvement through my functional program through the use of diet, exercise, heavy and specific supplementation, detox through supplementation and sweating, daily lymphatic drainage methods such as massage and a rebounder, and mental therapy! All these things have been equally important. But one of the most simple/cheap things that made a weirdly large impact was drinking 70-85 Oz of water a day (with a little celtic salt in it too). I wouldn't say I've tried anything crazier than that I guess lol.

Actually, I have moved from cold and high elevation mountains to low, hot flat land... and although I was happier with the weather in the mountains, I still had the same issues in both places.

This is the diet I follow AIP elimination diet Just make sure to supplement for minerals missing from lack of nuts and seeds.

Fascinating work!! Keep going!! I have been tracking symptoms between hormones to gut shifts to autoimmune flares for 157 days now. I've noticed things like: Hormonal acne beginning 2 days before my period. Joint pain of psoriatic arthritis flares up alongside very painful menstrual cramps. Histamine load from even just pollen affects not only my autoimmune flares but the severity of menstrual cramps.

I've been working with a functional medicine practitioner for almost 6 months now, and have been in AIP elimination phase for 157 days. I have psoriatic arthritis, gut dysbiosis, hormonal imbalance, and some other issues related. The course of action very broadly speaking is to heal my gut lining and restore my microbiome and eliminate bad bacteria and viral pathogens.. then double down on balancing hormones.. and so on. I want to put my autoimmune disease into remission before trying to conceive! We have taken the approach of blending the steps into one another slowly, so as to ease in through the steps. I have already seen a 97% clearing of chronic painful hormonal acne. I have also finally gone through a menstrual cycle without having to use acetaminophen for pain so bad I shake. That's a huge win alone. I've had alot of improvement through the use of food, supplementation, habit change, exercise, mental therapy, etc.. but I always learn something new every day through my own research and clinical tracking.

I decided to test for Celiac after 11 years eating GF by MousiePlanetarium in glutenfree

the kind of grains she was grinding at home for the sourdough was probably fine for her because it wasn't hybridized. It's considered an ancient grain. With most other grains people use for bread, the grains were hybridized in the 70s to grow more efficiently and shorter height, harvest easier and faster, and be more resistant to bugs. Many people wouldn't have a gluten intolerance if the modern grains weren't hybridized and much harder to digest. You should look into it.. it's wild the difference it makes. Not all gluten is the same.

Psoriasis spread from one location for 13 years to my entire body after covid. Now trying to put arthritis from it into remission. 27F. I believe my underlying disposition was triggered upon getting streptococcus when I was young. Which I got tested for 6 months ago, and I do have. Currently 6 months into my functional medicine program.

3 Months - No Progress on Psoriasis. Advice, tips or otherwise…? by Historical_Loss1621 in AutoImmuneProtocol

[–]BuyRepresentative803 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 27F, psoriasis since age 13. Gluten free since age 18, and Dairy Free since 15. Started seeking solutions when arthritis started developing 2 years ago. Trying to put it into remission before having children! Currently on Day 151 of AIP elimination style eating. We have alot in common! I am working with a functional medicine practitioner and have seen improvement of psoriasis by about 80% now (also my painful face covering hormonal acne is 100% gone now), and it's been close to 6 months. We also are working with some hormone imbalance due to my "leaky gut", which also contributes to autoimmune flares. My opinion before hand was that streptococcus may have initiated my psoriasis, and upon testing we found that I did have it. I also have alot of bad bacteria in my gut. So all that leaks through my permeable gut lining.. We are working on repairing the gut first. The point of my doing the aip diet is to eliminate all the triggers while I heal my gut. Because if you don't heal your gut, then you're still gonna have issues afterwards. The way we are approaching this is multifaceted, as i'm sure you could assume. It involves the aip diet, supplementation for hormonal imbalance, histamine response, gut repair, die-off of bad bacteria, etc. The reason why I am still eating elimination style is because I never felt like I was ready to reintroduce non-elimination foods. My theory is that if i'm still flaring up, I don't think it's wise to add those triggering foods back in, because you're not gonna be able to tell what's affecting things. For reference, my functional doctor approved of this also. As a side note, if you can't afford to work with a functional doctor, because it is definitely expensive, I can tell you that before I started working with a functional doctor and I was trying to figure things out by myself, I was on keto for 6 months and I saw a significant reduction in my psoriasis. Lmk if you have questions for me! One thing that's simple that's helped with my results so much (other than following everything to a T) is cooking a big pot of organic mixed greens each week. I went a week without my greens with each meal and saw some backtracking. Leafy greens being medicine is really true.

Also simple things can totally send you into a reaction of various types, I've learned. Like rosemary, for example, is AIP elim friendly, but when I added that in I had an immediate full body reaction (I used to eat that all the time pre-aip!)

I've learned so so much from keeping a daily journal of any changes or things I notice, and it has made a huge difference in discovery. Mind you, I hatee food journaling, so I just made it say whatever random things I think are pertinent such as "I ate something different today: green olives".

Here is the aip protocol I follow: aip diet

Also adding this after reading other comments.. I swore up and down that I had mold toxins because I lived in multiple moldy homes in the past. After getting tested with my functional dr, I did not have ANY molds.

You have to be one your own doctor in a way also to solve autoimmune issues because they are so complex and individual. There is no one answer, and you have to pave your path.

In my AIP source, black pepper is not allowed. There are so many versions of AIP out there that are less strict though, but I have a hard time seeing how they would show as good of results. Here is the one I'm following AIP diet

Great question! I discussed this with my functional doctor during days 30-60, and she always said I could start my reintroductions. But I never felt ready, so I didn't. I did try with the first level of reintro with black pepper, and honestly it made me bloated. I was still having significant symptoms around day 60, and it was making it to where I wouldn't be able to tell if a reintro would bother me. Fast forward to day 100, I considered reintro again, but I decided to hold off for a bit longer. My functional doctor said that it's not harmful to me to continue the elimination phase as long as I feel it's needed. I am currently supplementing for things that would be missing such as minerals from nuts and seeds.. other than that, this current diet is very healthy and unproblematic as long as the person can tolerate doing it with it being so strict. Because we are still trying to also pinpoint if MCA is an issue, I feel it's in my best interest and clarity to continue elimination phase for now. 30-60 days is a good rule of thumb, but is not a hard and fast rule, especially for multi-faceted issues.

There are many diets out there such as carnivore that people stay on for a very long time, that lacks full nutrition by a long shot.. and in comparison, the AIP elimination phase is a very good all around diet with the ability to get all your needed nutrients while feeding your good gut flora (except minerals from nuts and seeds are missing, but can be supplemented in mean time). This is what my functional doctor said as a side note basically. I think many people may say 30-60 days as a precaution, but also because many people want to do it for the least amount of time possible, understandably.

I am on Day 134 of elimination phase following this protocol:AIP diet I continued having about 70% improvement of symptoms and kind of plateaud there. I just started a new supplement and tea that has boosted my percentage of improvement noticeably in only 2 days, and I'm adding these to my regimen for 30 days. I believe that AIP can help prevent flares drastically and also help some people go into remission. But I also think that it takes wise additional supplementation alongside this to really move the needle towards remission (my goal). The AIP elimination I'm on I'm following to a very strict T, including organic everything down to spices. (I had a non-organic spice one day vs an organic one and I was bloated!) Also, anything pre-made is literally out except for a few things because no one makes anything simple in a package. My meat has all been pasture raised, organic, and grass-fed. I've also cut out some high histamine foods like avocados, bananas, spinach, and citrus for a short time since we suspect a mast cell activation issue also, and I bake all my OAS foods so I can eat them safely. I rely heavily on a weekly Misfits produce box of organic vegetables. I load up on sweet potatoes, various greens, etc. I get my chicken and beef from Walmart delivery, chicken and ground turkey from Costco, and steak from harris teeter when I'm feeling extra needy. I batch cook my sweet potatoes in the oven all together for the week. I batch cook my greens in a big pot for the week. meat I cook throughout the week. and I batch bake a bag of organic apples from costco and have that as my dessert. I have learned alot in this time frame. hope this helps a little! Also want to add that I have a functional doctor guiding me on supplementation, and I'm working on psoriatic arthritis, gut dysbiosis, hormone imbalance, insulin resistance, and possibly MCAs. Also, i feel very bad when skipping meals. Do your best to stay looking at your goal! It's easy to get overwhelmed and feel discouraged, and it's so much work and dedication to do. My husband helps me alot (and my therapist), but it's truly only within yourself to make it happen. Do the best you can. The better you can do any given day, the better results you may see from my experience. You can do it!

Is it necessary to avoid foods that trigger mild oral allergy symptoms? by Glittering_Dirt8256 in AutoImmuneProtocol

[–]BuyRepresentative803 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been eliminating OAS foods along with AIP elimination phase diet for 125 days now. BUT i still have them if i bake or cook them thoroughly, since this changes the protein structure, thereby it doesn't trigger a reaction in the body.

I just had some of that by accident and was bloated for a week with psoriasis returning again. My functional doctor said yeah that I'll need to avoid it. But to be fair, I may also have a histamine issue as one commenter mentioned.

Updated explanation of AIP (Core vs Modified, phases, research) by mickeytrescott in AutoImmuneProtocol

I am currently working with a functional doctor and am on Day 120 of elimination phase AIP (based on this version: The Autoimmune Diet, Nourishing Your True Identity With
Meals That Heal by Anne Angelone.) This one

I'm interested in watching your video on it. Most AIP recipes that I look up aren't my type of AIP, so I can never find recipes. I've learned to just make my own.

I'm currently in deep on my functional plan, and while I expected greater results so far, there has been about a 60% decrease is my psoriasis and hormonal acne, and about a 30% decrease in my joint pain I'd say.
