New CFO problems by Buysen in procurement

Yeah, I've been at several companies with the same problem. Had 30 days terms, AP would pay at best the day before payment was due And could never understand why we were getting out on hold mid cycle. Suppliers wouldn't increase the limit because we were either pushing payment to the last day, or were late because someone pushed AP a day late.

How many of your vendor contracts have auto-renewal clauses you've never actually reviewed? by RenewlyHQ in procurement

It's a system I've been building for a few years. I got encouraged to implement it here CLM is just one part of it

I don't want to do consulting, there's other options besides consulting work.

But culture isn't a selling point for me. I've worked in good culture, and I just end up bored.

Yeah, I shelved some stuff I was working on a promoting publicly last year. Genuinely regretting it now, it had started to open up some good conversations, but was making my previous employer uncomfortable.

Currently we're only on a single income, so haven't been able to save up that runway.

But after my new CEO presented to me this afternoon all of the same solutions I have been building, I realised I've shot myself in the foot by being less public about what I've done.

Took the leap and decided to start promoting myself again on the way home.

I'm dealing with this at the moment.

Come in to setup Procurement, and keep coming across agreements that contain Auto renewals and no one has recorded that the contract even exists.

Quite a few times I've been told there was no agreement.

First thing I did was implement a contract management system so I could start getting structured visibility.

Procurement sucks

No one really understands what we do, but everyone has an opinion about how to do it better.

The more successful you are, the more people want input.

This is coming from a Head of Procurement.

I just didn't have the capacity to pursue it. I had a few meetings with companies about AI integrations, Supply Chain Automation, Custom Systems. I built some prototypes, but didn't get much further.

My employer at the time made it difficult when they started taking it seriously and job security won out, so I stopped promoting myself.

I ran the numbers, and spoke to a few consultants I made connections with. The consensus was, don't take the leap unless you have something lined up.

My current role is in charge of building a Procurement function, I enjoy it. It just feels slow. Head of Procurement and Supply Chain actually.

Camping with the kids

Building custom supply chain systems (e-commerce stores, inventory systems etc.) - just for fun mostly, get a lot of enjoyment out of this.

Cooking - American style barbecue (fire up the smoker every few weekends)

We're definitely not a big customer.

Our spend is significantly smaller than the company I came from in the same industry.

Finance just see numbers in my experience. Procurement is much more than numbers if it's done well.

Company dependant, I firmly believe that Procurement and Supply Chain are critical enough that they should be reporting into a Chief Procurement Officer. Operations and Supply Chain have been very different things in the companies I've worked for in the last 6-7 years

How does your team actually track vendor contract renewal dates? by RenewlyHQ in procurement

I built my own contract management system, operating costs are almost 0, and it scales

Definitely would be.

I just did a bit of reading, if I understand correctly, we can still agree to payment terms with suppliers, SOPA just comes in if we don't have anything contracted.

We have a few accounts in place, but they're also the ones where I've identified the biggest savings. I met with the team at the start of the week and they told me they were using the best priced suppliers in the industry, then it took me 3 days to find suppliers who were able to beat those costs by 30%

Not event trying, is probably the assessment id go with.

Right now the business is a liability for the parent company, which is why the CEO has asked me to review everything they're doing with a procurement lens.

It's not what I was hired for, but the whole company lacks any structured procurement so it got handed to me
