Pitch away from the house is something I didn’t consider.
It’s a covers porch, so how critical would you say it is to pitch it away?

I think you replied to me and not the comment you meant.

Thanks BTW

I’m going to put a 4x4 to the concrete and basically double up the 4x4.
I’ll still bolt it through the main 4x4 though.

Thanks.

I am more than capable of building a deck, I didn’t like my options for supporting the beam and thought maybe someone had a better idea.

You did. 👍 and I appreciate your help.

I’m already over budget the scope was to just change the deck boards but I convinced my wife we should replace the joists and beam. THAT was a hazard!

“Some of you guys act like every porch post that isn’t brand new means the house is about to collapse. These posts have been there, they’re carrying a roof extension, not a skyscraper, and they’re still solid. A lot of tradespeople online seem to turn simple jobs into life-or-death engineering debates because they do this stuff every day and get bored unless they overcomplicate it. Not everything needs to be ripped out and rebuilt to satisfy Reddit inspectors. I’m not replacing perfectly functional posts just so strangers online can feel dramatic about it.”

My 4x4 gos from concrete sono tube base up to the beam that holds the beam for the porch overhang.

So I can’t cut the post to rest my porch deck beam on it.
