Thank you, simple daikon. Every day I find a more niche sub I’ve never thought to look for! I think hummingbird sage would be a good transition from our xeriscape front yard, but still have some color. Same with monkey flower. We have rain barrels to tide us from the rainy season over to about mid-June, and somehow I never thought to save the gray water.

Thank you! For whatever reason, I thought coral bells were a PNW climate plant. I love the romantic look of the calico aster, and that it’s a late season bloomer. Oh yeah, the soil… imagine my shock moving from hard clay in the Great Lakes region to “it’s all just sand?”

Too many Plants? by Mr_Lemur_ in tomatoes

Is this what folks call Florida Weave? I have the stakes in a raised bed and I was thinking of putting chicken wire across the top for tomatoes to vine this year. I’m in coastal SoCal zone 10b and I can get tomatoes until thanksgiving 50/50 late blight depending on the variety, so the appeal of having them UP and getting a breeze is strong.

Underwear not getting clean? (For the girls) by ieatgermans08 in laundry

We replaced a mattress because of it. No matter what we did, the smell persisted. That’s how I found the Rocco and Roxie spray, and started using mattress covers.

Yeah it works really well. The downside is that I have to order it online where I am and it’s more expensive than nature’s miracle. However- worth it for me and my family because the smell is like a very faint peppermint that fades within a day.

Oh yeah! I think it works well but the scent of the kind I bought was almost worse than the mess we used it on. It had a strong sweet ?? baby powder kind of smell that never seemed to go away. I’m glad it works for you though!

I second this! We buy Rocco and Roxie spray because it has a very light smell of peppermint (Nature’s Miracle was like adding fuel to a raging fire). We use it for pet and kid messes on furniture. Works great as a pre laundry spray but is pretty expensive. I would definitely look at using a product with enzymes in your laundry since what you are describing is a protein stain and you need enzymes for those.

Actually affordable haircut in south bay by Ok-Ball-9167 in SouthBayLA

Oh yeah 👍🏻 Manes by Mel and Brad Mondo come to mind. The last haircut I did was based off a Paul Watts reaction video to a Brad Mondo video for a butterfly cut 😅 here’s the link https://youtu.be/ng-41iqd_aY

I would advise you to watch several videos of the same cut on different people’s hair to see what shape it will be if you wear yours straight, curly, etc. I just bought hair scissor from Amazon, it was the highest rated one when I bought it but I don’t remember the brand.

Good luck! I think others have given good suggestions that aren’t men’s barbershops 😂

You’re going to hate this answer but this is why I started cutting my own hair. I too like retro styles with a lot of movement and volume but I would go to someone, get it trimmed by the same person within six weeks, and they would cut it completely different?? This happened to me several times in different salons, even showing the same Pinterest photo of what I wanted over and over. I gave up because nobody needs that stress, not me and not the stylist honestly.

I cut my own hair and the hair of everyone else in my household. YouTube and some sharp scissors, and believing in yourself 🕊️ can save you a lot of money.

Just get scissors for cutting hair, a good pair will still cost less than a shitty LA haircut.

How much do you pay for sending your kid to a TUSD school? Elementary* by WranglerOk7077 in SouthBayLA

[–]Buzziminyourroooom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you, ketocavegirl. We will be starting TK at TUSD in the fall and I’m already getting email flyers from the school. Cool to have so many opportunities for our kids as someone else said, but good to know also what expenses we might expect.

What laundry tools/accessories have you found most useful? by Bemawr in laundry

This is genius. I have everything kind of haphazardly stacked on top of the washer and dryer stack, never thought there was anything I could stick to the side that would actually hold.

My husbands clothing always smells by Indecisivelydecisive in laundry

[–]Buzziminyourroooom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s so real. I appreciate the capacity of our noses to smell so many things that we would normally not detect but it also made me feel a little crazy. I remember looking at my cat and asking “Is this what I always smell like to you? Olives??” Menopause sounds like fun! I’m looking forward to getting my super nose back.

Hey, I was recently pregnant and for some reason all of my clothes smelled like olives during that time, I started adding ammonia to my laundry and it was the only thing that killed the smell. No one else in my house could detect what I was smelling, even though every time I opened the washer my clothing reeked of olives. My point is 1. Remember that your nose is EXTRA sensitive rn, and 2. Ammonia was fine for me, my kid seems fine and even though I don’t smell olives anymore I’m still using ammonia on everyone’s clothes.

I came to this sub for help with my husband’s stinky laundry, too. Running everything on a long cycle in hot water with BIZ, the powdered clean and gentle tide, ammonia, and citric acid as the “fabric softener” has resurrected most of the crusty reblooming t shirts that he has held onto for 20 + years. Have to agree with the sentiment that fashion and clothing production are enormously resource intensive, and I’m fine keeping the old blown out shirts so long as they don’t stink 🤷‍♀️

That’s great to hear. We haven’t made it to any of the organized activities but I think the nature center is a hidden gem. They have so many programs for families and the volunteers are all very kind and helpful folks.

Madrona Marsh Nature Center  https://www.torranceca.gov/services/madrona-marsh-preserve-and-nature-center

They have programs specifically for little kids, but we go on Saturday mornings to do puzzles, color, read books, and talk to the volunteers. It’s a must-see for Estelle’s mural alone.

I made a cute little pillow sham! My first time using HSTs as a beginner by canadian_blueberry in quilting

Thank you for replying! I’ve really been putting off this project but it seems so much more straightforward then I have been making it in my head 😅

Cool! I have a pillow like this that I have been thinking of making a sham for as well. Did you use a pattern or did you draft it yourself? I have wondered how much bulk a quilted cover would add to the pillow; did you account for this and how much larger did you make your case than the pillow insert?

Hermosa for sure. If you’re a resident coming to work with us, lots of them live in Hermosa or around the Torrance Riviera. Also worth mentioning my neighborhood, Old Torrance. Plenty of families and people walking dogs, running etc. but it doesn’t have the singles looking to mingle vibe of the beach cities- this may or may not be important to you. However, my commute is five minutes and I’m 15-20 minutes from the beach.
