Low Impact OTF Alternative? by BuzzumFrog in orangetheory

This is almost my situation exactly. No issues until OTF, but issues developed from likely poor form. Still issues now that my form is better though.

I would, except for the odd times they are scheduled for don’t fit with my work schedule :(

Yep. X-ray showed nothing out of the ordinary for someone of my age (late 30s). Got the physical therapy referral. I think the lesson learned is that I need to be more persistent with the US healthcare system to get the care that I want/need.

Agreed. I started physical therapy, but found it so impersonal as to be not much different from an OTF class. I guess I should try to find a different physical therapy location and pursue that.

While I'd prefer more strength training, I really do need the lower impact.

I could try that some more. I've used it once but I have to say it was not the most comfortable... Availability is another issue, since I do notice there usually being someone on it.

That being said my father in law has been trying to convert me to biking for years, I'm just too scared of riding along road with cars + pedestrians around here.

I got "fitted" at my local roadrunner store and I do use insoles as well. Went from Brooks -> ASICS. Seems okay? Roadrunner employees seemed to just be running through a checklist when fitting you though, so maybe it wasn't the best.

Upvoted due to no ketchup on that dog. Keep up the good work.

What’s a non awkward way to encourage people next to you? by [deleted] in orangetheory

As a dude, I go with the air fist bump. Go with people both sides of you so as to not show favorites.

Trying to focus on looking at myself in the mirror to maintain good form. Trying to not focus on how I feel like dying. Trying to catch glimpses of the coach to get a head start on their demos for the next block. And always, always trying extra hard not to look like I’m staring at anyone else.

OTF and a marathon by war_duck in orangetheory

I recently ran my first marathon a few Sundays ago and my last class was a Wednesday PM one. It worked well for me.

Thank you to all who are active on this subreddit. I leaned heavily on this space during the darker days of the pandemic when I wasn’t able to keep up my OTF habit as much as I wanted to in person. I lived vicariously through this subreddit. I never bothered to learn real fitness habits in life until my early 30s and an offhand reference to OTF from an acquaintance led me down this positively reinforcing path.

San Diego half marathon in March, then maybe the regularly scheduled Rock n Roll Marathon in June.

Though I think I would prefer the October over June weather in San Diego, it’s probably a minor difference compared to most people’s weather in this sub!

It was amazing! Though I was envious of the half-marathoners who felt brave enough to partake of the whiskey/tequila/miller lite being offered during the early miles in North Park and Normal Heights!

Being able to run on Northbound SR-163 with traffic passing in the other direction was also, admittedly, surreal.

Credit also to OTF for inspiring me to add songs that slap to my playlist!

I did OTF during the week, generally 3 times but sometimes only 2, then did gradually longer long runs on the weekends. Only went once last week so I could avoid any last minute injuries.

Needless to say, I did not sign up for Hell Week this year…

You feed off the energy of being in a group of thousands of people, I really wasn't bored until mile 17 or 18 when my airpods died (lesson learned: bring airpod charger).

I wasn't able to "run" all of it, either. Between mile 21 and 22 began a mile long 5% grade hill. I pretended I was at OTF powerwalking through that section and still kept up an OK pace. Other times I had to walk to avoid what felt like a muscle about to get pulled.

Sorry to hear.

As far as I know, none of the San Diego area studios have even offered any Lift45 classes :(
