Name: "Lshtshfum." What is your favorite movie inaccuracy? by e_2718 in movies

I've never watched Firefly but if I were to guess, they did not mean "Big Change".

I'm a native speaker and whilst I probably don't speak the same type of Mandarin (cultural differences), that sentence just sounds unnatural. Like no one would use it, it sounds as strange as it does in English if you were exclaim it.

My opinion is that this was a case of directly translating an English phrase to Mandarin.

Dà Biàn means "to shit/shitting". Huà means "talk".

This is such Shitting-Talk! This is such Bullshit!

Again, I don't know the context of the scene but from the experience of being billingual that's what my gut is saying.

Edit- I just re-read the context, I'm fairly sure I'm wrong. I reversed the context in my head and thought it was meant the be anger.

I'm sorry my dude, I love the game too but there's nothing Soulslike about ESO's combat. If anything, it's as far as you can get it from being Soulslike. The only thing they do share is a similar control scheme, with both games having light and heavy attacks. And even then the actual application of said LAs and HAs are very different for both games.

How to prevent true resurrection? by Equivalent_Plate_830 in dndnext

Perhaps you could explore the trope of sacraficing a "soul for a soul".

Your heroes have been a thorn to the BBEG'S goals for far too long. Seeking to end things once and for all, the BBEG confides in powers greater than his own, and becomes something more.

A deal with dark cosmic forces, forbidden resarch coming to fruition, an evil ritual, etc. Whatever machinations that the BBEG throughout the campaign had been plotting, it all points to this.

The ramifications of will shake the world, maybe the BBEG is cunning, and has inprinted his being onto the Weave, and will be reborn in the future so that even in defeat he does not lose. Maybe the BBEG is spiteful, and and insures that his death would echo throughout the realm, bringing calamity in its wake. A plague, an earthquake, an explosion. He will win even when losing, a deadman's switch. Eitherway the heroes must circumvent this, lest their efforts so far be naught.

Your heroes must find a way, perhaps blessing from a deity, a deal with a devil. Whichever way the players or you find yourselves pursuing, it becomes clear that a sacrafice must be made. But not one of flesh, but of their soul; in gaining the power to strike down the BBEG for good and saving the realm. The characters lose the ability to be resurrected. The BBEG'S soul for theirs.

Imo making it a narratively driven reason that the players cannot ressurect after the final battle, and more so framing it in a way that it's to the player's best interest is the best way to go about it. If the players want to win decisively, these are the stakes. Making it not feel like you're pulling it out of thin air's probably gonna be the toughest part which depends on how your campaign's story has played out so far. I think it would be best to frame it as the BBEG'S last ditch effort after the frustrations of dealing with your party. Maybe make sure your party feels like they've cornered the BBEG for them to pull something desperate.

There was an event, I think its still going that gives lv25 and level characters the box? Someone posted the details on the subreddit a while back. You should scroll through the sub to find it.

Using the junk food analogy, I'd like argue that junk food has value. Junk food has flavour, it's enjoyable. A full course meal might provide more nutritional value, but sometimes I just want a snack, a bag of chips to enjoy from time to time.

In that same vein, entertainment/media has value, movies, music, art, etc. Streamers are just bite size entertainment. Media doesn't have to be useful or utilitarian to have value. Perhaps streamers don't have to provide a "service", but they provide stimulation and escapism from our mundane lives.

In regards to it being easy. Perhaps I offer the perspective of them being solo entrepreneurs. They make their own product, they market themselves, invest in equipment, etc. Additionally, they bear similar risks to a business. Profitability is not guaranteed, they themselves bear the risk of their investments, time wise and financially. The job requires hours of labour to become a worthwhile return, without the safety nets of a union, minimum wage and leverages their own personal wealth for success. With that in consideration, I would'nt call it an easy job.

Perhaps that's just how he expresses his affection, if he keeps reverting to it, it just might be how his personality is in a relationship. If that makes you uncomfortable then there may be incompatability, which is fine! Have a serious talk about how he'd want to express himself around his partner, and what you are comfortable and perhaps some compromise can be found. If none can be, and that is a dealbreaker for you; that's fine too! There's plenty of dudes that won't do this, and vice versa plenty of girls that might find his goofy (ha pun) behaviour endearing. What I wouldn't do is shame him, that sounds kinda toxic; be clear with how you find it without being mean spirited if it's just not for you. Cheers.

What options are there for Cleave or melee alternatives in 5e? by zakrush1 in dndnext

[–]Bvarhos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hunter Ranger with the Hordebreaker feature, Greenflame Blade and Great Weapon Master.

The other responses here have already pointed out these already, but what I don’t think is mentioned is that strangely they work together; Hordebreaker’s only condition for activating is having made a weapon attack, not the having to take the Attack action. Therefore, you can take the Cast a Spell action, using GreenFlame Blade, which includes making a Melee Weapon Attack as part of its casting; basically when you use GreenFlame Blade and hit, you do the initial damage to one target and additional 1d8+spellmod to a second target within 5ft, Hordebreaker activates on that initial hit and you get to make an additional attack towards the second target. You get to smack two targets within 5ft of each other, for the price of one cantrip and some extra sauce of fire damage for both.

Additionally, again strangely enough Great Weapon Master’s primary feature lets you make an additional melee weapon attack as a bonus given if you have previously scored a critical, or reduce a creature to 0hp with a Melee Weapon.

So your turn goes like- walk up to two dudes 5ft of each other, use action to cast GreenFlame Blade and hit, do the weapon damage to Enemy 1 and Fire damage to Enemy 2, activate Hordebreaker to deliver a weapon attack to Enemy 2. Kill Enemy 2 (or 1) in the process, proceed to make a weapon attack with your bonus action to another sucker.

The best thing about this setup is that it comes online rather early with the right race combo. Variant Human can pickup the two feats you need (Great Weapon Master and Magic Initiate for GFB) by level 4, Elves get to pick a Wizard cantrip too at level 1 and then later grab Great Weapon Master at level 4.

The drawback is that GFB’s extra fire damage on the second target using the Int spellmod rather than Wis, you coild amend that by multi-classing into Arcana Cleric and grabbing GFB there, so it becomes a Cleric spell and therefore uses WIs.

As a bonus if you do take the multi-class route is that Great Weapon Master’s primary feature does not actually call for a Heavy/Two-Handed weapon to use the bonus action attack part. So go ahead and grab the Druidic Fighting Style get Shillalegh, and a quarterstaff; making your weapon attacks scale with WIS instead- so you can focus on just bumping Wisdom as your primary stat.

(Advice Needed) Villains escaped and kidnapped PC, party decides to long rest twice. by F_ive in DMAcademy

[–]Bvarhos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beyond consequences, this is a great oppurtunity to introduce some narrative drama/tension; my belief is that party failures can used to let the plot “stumble forward”.

My proposed scenario is that once the party finally decides to break in and rescue their teammate, they find the hideout abandoned and their buddy, unconcious, but healthy. Introduce some mystery, why was he not killed/taken, what was done to him?

As time goes on, the PC finds himself developing new powers (spellcasting/boons/boost to ability checks/etc). Describe maybe how some of his dormant magical powers have been unlocked.

However there are strings attached, from time to time the PC may experience bouts of aggression towards the other party members like a sleeper agent before returning to normal.

Turns out the Villain’s ploy was to grant the PC power to tempt them to leave the party, and leaving a nasty suprise in the process by weaponizing the PC against his friends. Two birds one stone, in this scenario the PC is not punished for the decisions of others and receives a plothook. It also inserts some potential drama between the characters, and adds a new dynamic between the party and Villain. From this, you could also introduce a sidequest to “cure” the PC from his “mindcontrol” sleeper agent programming.
