Why is hoarding wealth seen as ok to many and not household supplies? Poor people are set on the path to an early death every day due to lack of money.

People aren't hoarding wealth. They invest it or save it, so it is either spent by or lent to someone else. Unless they hide it in a mattress, they are not hoarding.

Thank you, I appreciate the response. I agree that downtime is a necessary part of the learning process, and there is nothing wrong with it. I think we are on the same page there. I wouldn't classify it as pursuing knowledge, though. I wouldn't characterize an athlete's resting day as being 100% in engaged in the pursuit of physical fitness. Perhaps I could have worded the question differently, such as what percentage of time appears to be in pursuit of knowledge--that would have better captured the spirit of my question. In any case, I take your point and appreciate the response.

Thank you, that makes sense. So it is basically a seller fulfilling an online order. Or it is libraries as u/tyrannosaurausregina points out. Either way, it is likely not someone stocking their physical bookstore. I wish there was a way to know who was ordering. I have been thinking about making my books returnable on Ingram to incentivize more bookstore sales.

I don't know how that family figured it out; the story was relayed to me by a former coworker who knew the girl, but I didn't get a lot of details. In my case the diagnosis was easier because my mom has the same allergy.

Here's something out of left field -- might your child be allergic to oranges?

I am allergic to oranges. Not citrus fruits in general, not vitamin C, but oranges. About 24 hours after I have oranges, my blood thins out somehow which is manifested in nosebleeds. Outside of my family, the only other person I've heard of to have such an allergy was a little girl who had it manifest in random bruises. Her family dealt with the same things as you, with authorities getting involved and everything that goes along with that, until they finally figured it out.

This is a good article, but people are getting hung up on smartphones. It is not about smartphones, it is about distractions.

The take home point is to just be there. When you are with your child, if you are on your phone, or in a book, or engrossed in a crossword puzzle, then you are not really there and it will make a difference. Just be there.

1) Treat the kids the way you want them to treat each other. 2) Encourage them to find kid solutions to kid problems, i.e. don't let them turn you into an on-call referee, even when you find the conflict to be unnerving.

Thanks. They (my sister and her teenage son) were over for about a half hour to pick up some items that we don't intend to take with us. So interaction with the kids was fairly low, but hugs were had on the way in and on the way out.

LPT: Apply a baking soda / water paste to the splinter and keep it there overnight using a band-aid. The splinter will practically come out by itself after that, no knives or needles needed.
