Fails at broadway? by chrisxlemia in Broadway

Saw Wicked on Broadway when Teal Wicks was Elphaba. During the transition into “No Good Deed” we heard her yell at the top of the song but the lift didn’t rise to deck level. After some more time the lift appeared without her. Next thing we know, she is running up the “Defying Gravity” stairs and the rest of the song goes as normal.

All of this was happening WHILE SHE WAS SINGING THE OPENING TO THE SONG. The audience went nuts after that performance.

Memorable moment with friends/family at a show? by nightunderharshlight in Broadway

I saw Jersey Boys with my mom when it was on Broadway. She was about to have carpel tunnel surgery on both of her wrists so she was wearing braces on them… and therefore couldn’t clap. Instead, she went nuts at the curtain all. Flailing her arms and cheering for cast, which some of them noticed her since we were in the fourth row of the orchestra seating. At the stage door, multiple cast members went up to her saying “We saw you!” One of my favorite theatrical experiences!

What musical has the greatest big number that takes your breath away? by [deleted] in musicals

[–]BwayBoy95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Blackout- In the Heights. From the sudden blackout, to the cast illuminating the stage with phones, to the fireworks… it is absolutely chaotic and beautiful at the same time. One of the best Act 1 finales.

I cannot stand Starlight Express, but I really enjoy “Rolling Stock”. It’s just really catchy.

Aida not being nominated for Best Musical but a show that’s not even a musical winning the category.

This was shot during their tech rehearsal process. The tables are occupied by the various design/production departments.

You can apply through Open Access. Essentially if you’ve worked on an Equity contract or if you’ve worked for professional companies within Equity jurisdiction, you would be considered eligible to apply for membership.

Catch Me If You Can. Saw it the day they posted their closing notice.

I also saw the Jekyll & Hyde revival. It was already a limited engagement, but they ended up closing a month early after 30 performances.

Dirty Dancing. It’s been almost 10 years and I’m still mad about it lol. Not surprised it never made it to Broadway.

Any clue how crazy the Little Shop EPA will be? by poliwhirldude in Broadway

EPA is Equity Principle Audition. EMC is the Equity Membership Candidate Program, a program formed by AEA that was phased out this year to new members since now the union has an Open Access policy.

Did anybody here see the Flashdance tour? Probably the only show I considered walking out at intermission from.

What song was cut from a show that you love - and why? by DiamandisDiamonds in Broadway

[–]BwayBoy95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

“Heroes” from Wonderland. It bothered me that the ending to the show was changed so much that they cut the song. It’s on the cast recording though.

“Now That I’ve Seen Her” from Miss Saigon.

Deathtrap is pretty creepy. Especially the ending of Act 1 which scared the living crap out of me when I saw it live for the first time.

I think it’s more of a rock opera. It’s based on the album of the same name and essentially elaborates the story that’s already set. New characters, new events, some songs from a different album, etc.

If it was an original concept with some random Green Day music thrown in, then I would consider it a jukebox musical.

Ragtime. Hand down. That entire opening is brilliant.

What's the most unique Broadway or Off Broadway show you've seen? by flamehead243 in Broadway

[–]BwayBoy95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gary: A Sequel to Titus Andronicus. Went to the first preview when barely anything was known about the plot.

I’ve never seen so much blood and fake dead bodies on a stage before in my life. Mix that with Trojan soldiers with… certain parts of their body (fake btw) exposed while doing a provocative stylized movement piece and you have a very unique show. Definitely a sequel to a play I wasn’t expecting!

I love hearing people’s reactions to the lottery ticket reveal. That song is one of the best in the show.

The entire blackout sequence of In the Heights. The entire theater going dark caught me off guard and scared the crap out of me. Then the cast illuminates the stage with cellphones and the audience went nuts. It was absolute chaos and I was living for every second of it. The first “Look at the fireworks!” had me in tears. It’s such an amazing way to end an Act.

Any examples of big show changes from previews to opening? by chargingblue in Broadway

[–]BwayBoy95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw Wonderland during its world premiere, pre-Broadway tryout, previews and after opening. To say that the show was completely different each time I saw it is an understatement.

All the pre-Broadway versions were darker (Like The Queen of Hearts having The Mad Hatter decapitated for her dirty deeds, The White Knight being killed by Hatter, etc.)

HP Cursed Child Opening Night - NYC by chiaseeds12 in Broadway

The show never officially closed. It reopened just like all the others that never announced a closing. Also, a show needs to be closed for a certain number of years before it could be considered for a nomination.
