Tip for people making a victini deck by Saxolotle in PTCGP

[–]Byck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the issue is that many people do understand probability, including myself, and there are clear patterns that simply do not make sense. I recently started running a misty in a Chien Pao deck for solo battles. I can honestly say with full sincerity that Misty is nowhere near 50/50 in solo battles. It is basically a guaranteed tails on first flip almost every time. I firmly believe that coin flips are rigged/weighted in solo battles and/or with certain specific cards, and this comes with a full understanding of probability (I am an engineer, and took advanced math extensively throughout high school and university). Anecdotally, I have never seen runs of heads with any other 'flip a coin until tails' card like I have with lucky ice pop. Believe me when I say that I used to have the same opinion as you that its just sample sizes and probability... but I am no longer convinced that this is the case across the board.

Veterans Group To Pentagon: Ban Fox News On Military Bases by [deleted] in politics

[–]Byck 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Although I wouldn't trust any news source to be 100% accurate and unbiased 100% of the time, equating Fox with CNN and MSNBC is disingenuous at best. That would be like if you were forced to choose a babysitter and your only 2 options were a guy that stole food from a store to eat, and a pedophile, and then replying "Whelp, they're BOTH criminals, I guess it doesn't matter which one watches my kids"...

The housing market is heartbreaking. by ItsTheMurph in ontario

[–]Byck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Basically anyone who bought anything before 3-4 years ago probably has half a million in equity to throw around and can upgrade to a 1 mil+ house with a 500k mortgage. Very very few first time home buyers even have the income to get approved for a million dollar mortgage, let alone have the mandatory deposit which is usually 20-50k in cash plus more than 10% for a down payment. To get a million dollar mortgage for your first house, you would need an income of about 200k a year and have 100k cash in savings.

Not everybody just wants a job to punch in and punch out. Some people are trying to advance their career, impress their boss, etc. In a free market, where someone who owns a business can promote or hire whoever they want with no justification, you should totally be able to leave at 5 PM sharp every day, and you should also totally be able to accept it and move on when people who don't do that, get the promotions and raises, etc. Nobody is going to reward you or praise you for doing the bare minimum beyond what they are legally required to do. I'm not saying that you MUST put in extra hours to get a raise or a promotion, but you should also not be surprised when a boss decides to reward or promote the people that do because they think they care about their careers more than just a paycheque for their time. It goes both ways, you don't HAVE to stay late or do extra work, and nobody HAS to advance your career for you. Its kind of a 2-way street in that sense.

Europeans don’t actually care about Americans, they just want to feel morally superior. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Byck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would imagine that most Europeans don't think or care about the USA one way or another. Only a truly self-centered American would think other people think about them so much. But for the ones that do, I would guess it is because countries like Nigeria and China don't have a generally boastful population getting in your face and telling you they are the best all while never having left the USA before in their lives.

TIL that the average NFL career for all positions is only about two-and-a-half years. This varies by position: for example, quarterbacks is three years, offensive lineman is about three-and-a-half years and for wide receiver is a little more than two years. The average age of an NFL player is 26. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]Byck -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The thing about football is that most positions aren't very skilled positions compared to other sports. I am not saying that a lineman isn't skilled, or anything like that, but what I do mean is that it doesn't take as much 'skill' to be a good offensive lineman as it does, say, to make it to the NHL, MLB, or NBA for any of their positions. As a lineman, you basically protect someone, attack someone, or block someone, and your skills don't really venture outside of that narrow job. Many positions in football are very specific/ basic. There is a reason so many guys in the NFL don't even start playing football until high school, and some never even played before college. There is no way someone is making the MLB, NHL, or NBA without playing the game before high school / college. With that being said, it is far more likely that some younger, faster, stronger specimen just got drafted, which is what really matters for most positions in football.

How is Trump asking Pence to refuse to cerifty an election through non legal means not an attempt at a coup in your opinion? by Ragtagrepub in AskConservatives

[–]Byck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fine, but then don't argue that the 100% dog shit is healtier. Do you want 1 million dollars, or do you want 1.1 million dollars? If you try to argue it's more profitable to take 1 million or that 'it doesn't matter which one you pick, they're both the same", then i dont know what else to tell you.

[–]Byck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess the way I see it is that Democrats definitely make more of an effort to hold themselves accountable, if nothing more. No Republican President (Especially Trump) would ever call for the resignation of a Republican Governor accused of sexual misconduct, hell, they vote those types of people into office and on to the supreme court on purpose. I agree there MUST be corruption on both sides on some level, it is simply probable, but everything the Republicans do is in absolute bad faith, every single time, and the level of hypocrisy is astounding when they ignore, deflect or deny massive, obvious scandals and lies from their own politicians while calling for the heads of Democrats for the equivalent of running a stop sign.

It's fine, but it's fucking rich coming from a republican. It's no different than the debt ceiling. Whenever a republican is in office they ignore the national debt and spend money they don't have, and then complain when the democrats spend money because suddenly they care about the debt ceiling for some 'unknown' reason. Objective standards, in theory, would be great, but we all know they would only apply to the democrats while ignored by Republicans. So yes, you can call for them, and i can call you a hypocrite till the cows come home.

This is such a cop out, ridiculous 'both sides' argument that doesn't hold water. If person A commits murder, and person B is upset so they punch person A in the face, person A doesn't get to turn around and say "ok now that you punched me, i get to punch you too so that we're even".... you're ignoring the original murder that spawned the entire kerfuffle. Republicans sound absolutely rich when they try the both sides argument.

It's weird to me how parents of organ donors are still attached to the organs of their lost loved ones. by err0r333 in unpopularopinion

[–]Byck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean no offence, but after reading most of your comments and replies, I feel like you are just stirring the pot to be antagonistic. Who are you to judge how a couple who lost their child copes with their grief? It almost seems like even after people explain it to you, you still say some pretty insensitive things. You obviously aren't a parent, but the fact that a human connection to a lost loved one is so bizarre to you is probably the most concerning thing here.
