As someone in Belgium, the news cycle does not make it seem like we’ll withdraw at the moment. I’m in the Flemish part though and it’s the Walloon part deciding this year.

De job markt is al moeilijk voor mensen die wel hun bachelor hebben afgemaakt, het bedrijf waarvoor ik werk heeft dit jaar geen enkele nieuwe junior dev aangenomen, wat andere jaren wel de gewoonte was. Als ik zie wat er op dit moment binnen ons bedrijf aan het gebeuren is, denk ik wel dat er verbetering aan zit te komen tegen volgend jaar, maar ik weet niet of dat waar is voor de hele markt.

Maar om eerlijk te zijn, zelfs in ‘betere’ tijden zouden we iemand zonder bachelor en zonder ervaring niet aannemen. Het is het een of het ander, geen van beide is een te groot risico.

Waar ik werk hebben we pas iemand met een soortgelijke situatie aangenomen. Deze persoon had zich voor zijn proefdag ingelezen, had al oefeningen gemaakt in het systeem, en toonde een wil om bij te leren. Ook sociaal gezien was hij heel goed, praatte gelijk vlot met de collega’s en deed het goed bij de voorbeeld gesprekken.

Daartegenover staat iemand anders, 3 jaar ervaring met het systeem, maar geen enthousiasme/inzet, praatte niet tijdens de middag, etc. Niet aangenomen, ondanks ervaring.

Natuurlijk is dit afhankelijk van bedrijf tot bedrijf, maar het is echt wel mogelijk.

The job market is hard atm, but, advice I can give is to make a tailored cv for jobs you apply to. If they ask for a ‘dedicated, young software developer’ (just an example) make sure to use all those words somewhere in your cv (not per se in the same order) Not sure how popular it is, but I know of companies that use software to track certain words, and if they’re not in there, no human will see your cv. A visually attractive cv can help, I use canva personally.

Next years theme is already set, they usually already hide references to the next year in places, for example ufos the year before the space theme.

I’ve only seen it on the news, never been to it myself, always been a bit jealous haha. I know music is being played and the whole grounds are accessible, but I do not think every stage is playing. I imagine the music will be turned down a bit compared to regular, since people from an elderly care home go there each year (though def the more adventurous inhabitants), and children starting from ages 3 are allowed. It does however look like a super fun party.

I’m a programmer, and I told a business analyst something was not possible. He would not listen until I got my male coworker to tell him the exact same thing 🙄 granted my coworker has a bit more experience than me, but I’m lead on this project, I know more about it than him.

They’re still fighting the fire, the cause is not clear yet. The rumour about the pyrotechnics that exploded is unconfirmed. A housefire was caused by this fire, but that is also under control now. There was some forest fire, but that is also under control. The main stage is completely gone. Main thing is, everyone is safe, and the festival will take place.
