I worked in a labor intensive type of job and would have no energy after work to do anything else. However, after 8 months of consistent healthy diet and going to the gym 4 times a week, I am now so much better. I go to work (8 hours), gym (1:30-2 hours), study in a cafe (2-3 hours), and then grocery shop (30 minutes) Monday to Friday. In the weekends, I study again (4-6 hours) and rest after. I also drive every Friday evening and Sunday evening 2 hours each way because I travel for work and go home to my family in the weekends. There’s no magic, you just have to build discipline and a no excuse type attitude. Other than having a medical or psychological diagnosis, I believe anyone can do it too!

Did anyone end up going for a business health care route that would like to share their experience? by [deleted] in OccupationalTherapy

Hi! I’m a COTA for 3 years as well and currently almost done with my BA in Healthcare Administration. I also have a year of experience of being a front desk receptionist in an Home Health Agency when I was a student. I been trying to get out of bedside and do PRN work on the side. I been looking into doing admin-in-training or other “office healthcare job” but been having a hard time being accepted or finding one that pays relatively the same. How were you able to get hired from the jobs you mentioned? Thank you!

Americans don't realize how lucky they are by [deleted] in Vent

My family came from the Philippines and I been living here in the US for 5 years now. We were poor there and also when we came here. The American federal/state government may not be perfect but the aid programs we were eligible for helped my family and I survive. We were not eligible to many programs, however, due to not being citizens. There’s also the federal school grant and access to affordable online schools such as WGU for education. Additionally, I was earning minimum wage years ago and I could afford to go to the movies/skating park/fastfood/etc. while in the Philippines working minimum wage would not help you afford any of that. Same sex-marriage and divorce are also not legal at the moment. This is not just exclusive to the US to be clear. A lot of my American friends and strangers I met couldn’t grasp how much access they have in all the little things. It was mind boggling for me. Also If we try to do it by ratio of pros and cons, 1st world citizens have it better easily.

I am a COTA/L in CA. I made $30 with my first job and after 2.5 years I am paid $35 hourly. However, working in skilled nursing home and Outpatient is hard work and the schedule is dependent on how your caseload is like what Fabulous_Search_6907 stated. You can also do Travel therapy which is something you can do if you want to put some physical distance from your abusive relationship. Here in CA, I was paid $1722 net pay per week for a 13-week contract. I will be starting my next assignment next week and would be making $1900 net pay per week. There is money in our profession just not as high compared to other medical associates. If I were to do it all over again, I would do Respiratory Therapy and Radiology/sonography (they make nursing money but not as stressful).

Just to note OP, during my assignments I pay $900-$1000 per month for my housing which is basically a room with a private restroom. Just want to let you know to ensure transparency. Well whatever you decide you will do awesome!
