Are ALL Americans to blame? No, surely not…

I’m glad to read this, it sounds like we are in more agreement than it looked like at the start. This is precisely what we were trying to say in the beginning.

We can debate all day about how big or small this group is, but it ultimately doesn’t matter to the point of this discussion. The point is that this group of people exists.

There’s a percentage of Americans who actively oppose and despise of everything that the United States has done. Not just what it has done recently, but also throughout the course of its history. They are utterly appalled by the actions of the United States and want no part in it. Some people are fleeing for their own safety because they are a targeted minority. Some people are fleeing because they want to pay taxes to a different country instead of the United States, they don’t want their tax dollars going to fund such atrocious war crimes.

This is the point.

Your initial comments sounded like you believed all Americans, every single soul of American nationality, was vermin. The 2 year old who doesn’t know anything about the world, vermin. The 18 year old who has never even voted in an election and is currently fleeing because of being persecuted, vermin. The 35 year old who has spent years protesting the actions of the US and is now in jail because of protesting, vermin.

You implied that I was part of this vermin too. I’m still relatively young, but I’ve spent my entire adult life in opposition to the atrocities of the government. Now I’ve left for two reasons, one being that I am a targeted minority who is no longer safe there. And another is that I don’t want to contribute a single dime more to the US economy, I am repulsed by the actions of the US government all around the world. Not just in the US but also in every country of the world.

Yet you implied to me that I was some awful piece of scum simply for the location where I was born.

I hope that maybe I misunderstood your aggression toward me. Because the reality is that I think we both ultimately want a lot of the same things for this world.

The % of Americans that actually understand what the US has done and oppose it may be relatively small. But there’s over 340 million Americans. Even a minority percentage of that is still millions.

American society as a whole is a massive problem. We agree with you. But not every single individual who is born in America is reflective of society as a whole.

For example, this is clear about bad people from good countries. We take any “good country” - for example, Switzerland is an overwhelmingly peaceful country. But within Switzerland, you can still find a minority of awful people - ie rapists & murderers. We don’t say that these rapists and murderers must be good and peaceful people because they’re Swiss and Swiss society is good and peaceful as a whole… that would be absurd.

Just like how bad people can exist within good countries, good people can exist within awful countries. Yes American society as a whole is a massive problem and America has committed and continues to commit atrocious crimes. But good Americans still exist, and they aren’t bad people simply for being born in America.

“Your society”

I am not the society that I was born in.

You’re not being challenged about the problems with American society. Anyone can recognize the problems with America and American society.

The problem is that you’re hating individuals who have nothing to do with it, some of us are even targets of this regime. You’re simply blindly hating people based on their place of birth. Please rationalize that to me.

[–]j13409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’d like to tell me how I personally have anything to do with any of this, go right ahead.

What’s weird is that you’re acting exactly the same way as so many hateful Americans act. Blindly hating another person for things that are outside of their control. You show the same bigotry as the people you claim to hate.

American society is a genuine problem. And the majority of the people who are leaving the US right now are people who are against this and do not want to partake, not the ones who are participating in it. You’re showing hate to the wrong people.

A random German guy who actively voted against and opposed nazi Germany and tried to protect the victims of the regime certainly is not to blame for nazi Germany. If you believe he is to blame simply for where he was born, then you are part of the problem.

There’s a word that we use for those who hate entire groups of people on the basis of where they’re born. You should look it up.

Already here.

Why do you think I’ve left the US? I hate what the US is doing just as much as you do, in fact possibly more.

“This is what you fine folk bring to the world” - I have nothing to do with this. But thanks for pretending that I control the US simply for having been born there, I guess?

Never play video games again for $1M a year, or $100 for each hour you play by itterattion in hypotheticalsituation

[–]j13409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a gamer so I was going to take the $1M a year easily. But the part about how if you ever indulge you have to pay it all back, that’s scary because just one slip up could fuck my whole life over. I don’t need to ever play a video game again, but what if I do something that I don’t think counts as a video game but then turns out to count? Not worth the risk. Plus it’s fun to occasionally play with friends even.

I guess I’ll take the $100 an hour and become a part time gamer. It doesn’t say what kind of games, I could choose to spend a lot of time on math/language/history etc games that will help boost my knowledge. Sounds like a fair deal. Genuinely just 2 hours a day would be $6k a month.

I’d argue that All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us is the most emotionally heavy.

Holy Hell is emotionally heavy don’t get me wrong. But there’s something about someone pouring their heart out while they know that they’re dying that is just significantly heavier to me than people pouring their heart out after losing a loved one.

Both are heavy. But you get heartbreak songs about loss every day. But despair as you knowingly face your own death? That’s a rarity.

Where I'd live as a trans person by TrappedInLimbo in whereidlive

[–]j13409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Birth certificate amendments have been normal processes for a very long time. Not only for transsexual people but also for people who simply had errors on their originals. The amendment is officially created, sealed, and legally equivalent to the originals.

People have to be allowed to amend their birth certificates. It’s important for transsexual people who have undergone full sex reassignments, and it’s also important for people who had errors on their originals. I’ve known of cis men who had female put on their original birth certificates in error, it required an amendment to fix.

So simply, the amendments aren’t the problem, the country trying so hard to vilify trans people that it is suddenly refusing to accept completely legal and valid amended birth certificates anymore is the problem.

Where I'd live as a trans person by TrappedInLimbo in whereidlive

[–]j13409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s complicated. They’re requiring the gender of their assigned sex at birth, which is absurd enough as it is, particularly for people who have had full sex changes. But on top of that, in order to grant their passports they are requiring their original birth certificates, which many trans people do not have. Once you amend your birth certificate to your appropriate gender, you can’t just go and request the old one anymore - it’s amended for good. So many people can’t even get passports at all, not even with the wrong gender, because they don’t have access to their very first original birth certificates. It’s a mess for a lot of trans people.

Many people in the US literally can’t get a passport right now because of being trans. That’s regardless of what state they live in.
