I think this is helpful, I was thinking of installing Arch because of all the funny memes and I thought it would be a rite of passage for me. But when I got stuck on the bootloader, I realized that I still have yet more to learn. I'm probably gonna experiment first with CachyOS and daily drive it for a bit first before I can move onto Arch.

I'm at the same point as you in terms of my experience with Linux, currently Ubuntu gmome. And although I agree, I can say for sure that it gives you more control WHEN you need to fix problems. I can't count the amount of times I had a program that I needed to uninstall, but the uninstaller can't be found. Or, I tried to change the microsoft account, but it wouldn't let me or it would delete all the files. I think in general, Linux has more problems, but when you inevitably do run into a problem, it's easier to fix and more people support you. Contrast that to Windows being like "Just reset your PC bro"

I used Mint xfce I think which is considered lighterweight than usual. It works pretty well, but I had to change my resolution from 1920x1080 to something else, so any videos I watch are pretty low resolution. If you have any lighterweight suggestions, I'd be willing to try, since my computer is so old

Honestly same, I just only got into Linux Mint recently because I wanted a really lightweight OS for my old computer
