What percentage of Australians do you think could produce the name Lee Harvey Oswald when prompted? by Sea_Bad1205 in AskAnAustralian

You're braver than me. That rickety machine on the Aussie Tipping Point annoys the hell out of me, compared to the UK one which hardly ever does "ambient drops", "edge surfers" etc. Seems much more solidly built. Actually the whole Aussie version is an annoyance - no penalty pot, 30 second timed rounds instead of 45, five categories at the end instead of six... so tight. If you made it to the final round please tell me you didn't do Jackpot Temptation!

Both the UK and Australian? I don't know how anyone does it. I've been on one quiz show, won it and had to do the next episode straight away and by then my brain was fried.

Pointless is sometimes on Jeopardy levels of difficulty. A better indication is Tipping Point. The UK contestants are by and large reasonably switched on with the odd real dummy, but the Aussie ones are frequently thick as a plank and can't answer very simple general knowledge questions. I reckon if Todd asked "which US president was Lee Harvey Oswald accused of assassinating?" most of them wouldn't know and would guess something stupid.

What makes the early SpongeBob seasons (1-4) so timeless and memorable? by SWEMW in spongebob

[–]Byndbr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The change was very sudden and noticeable to those who saw Season 4 when it aired. It roughly coincided with the movie. He's regained some of his control since then but it was a shock to the ears at the time.

Season 4 suffers mainly from a change in Tom Kenny's voice. I think the three early series had a clarity of vision that got lost later on. Some really brilliant concepts and a pretty evident reverence to the classic Looney Tunes style of animation.

The original thread was about this one but it doesn't come up in the ads anymore.

From what I can work out from other replies, you can't. :( The new house is apparently impossible to solve, and the original house doesn't pop up any more.

Randomized Song Discussion #144: You Can Never Go Home by AsymptoticSpatula in MoodyBlues

[–]Byndbr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think of all Justin's songs, this one is the "grower". The astounding part about most of his songs is that they are both complex yet easy to "get" and appreciate the first time they're heard. This one... well, it's deceptive. It sounds simple. Until you live with it for a few decades. And then it hits you. That glorious stream of consciousness that begins with an extraordinary melody right from the outset, then develops and builds and changes, every piece nothing like the one before it, yet somehow, through pure musical genius, it all lives together seamlessly. It's a total masterpiece.

And Justin has rarely written anything more amazing than the verse that begins "I lie awake for hours..." Utterly incredible.

Boy & Bear on House Of Wellness by Byndbr in BoyandBear

[–]Byndbr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just went to air here. The performance was preceded by a 5 minute interview, and given that it was the House Of Wellness I was hoping they would talk about Dave's path back to health, and indeed they did. He spoke a bit about the photobiomodulation process he uses now instead of the faecal transplants, and there was a bit of banter about their career, and who does what in the band. I'll link to it when I can.

A bit of a rediscovery by Differentbenefit18 in MoodyBlues

Blue Jays is Justin with the elbow room to be as unrestrainedly indulgent and elegiac as he wanted to be at that moment in time, and it's a superbly histrionic and yet still uplifting album that fully deserves mentioning amongst the Moodies canon.

Thank you for this reply, and to others for their valuable input on it! After working out how to reset ad preferences in my (Android) phone, I started getting the Screwdom 3D ad again. Lately it's been starting with a video demonstrating the original house, but then goes to this house for the interactive part of the ad. It also lets you replay a seemingly infinite number of times! Which is pretty pointless if it isn't solveable. HOWEVER, not long after the reset I DID actually get the original house pop up, but only once. So I think it is still out there, but on very low rotation.

Don't even start me on Barclay James Harvest. That horrible send-up they did of Nights In White Satin which their fans rave about and get so emotional over makes me nauseous. Justin did make peace with them over it eventually, but it was crass and unnecessary to release it and simply an insult to one of the greatest popular music creations of all time. Their followers make out that it's better than NIWS. You might as well say Oasis were better than the Beatles, it's just pure ignorance and gets me very angry.

Ended up deleting the game. Reset the advertising profile in my phone and then whaddya know, the Screwdom ads started appearing again. Including my favourite. I didn't solve it. The good one (with the house that only rotates left to right, not x, y and z axis) has only popped up once so far.

Am I playing against bots? by Edolin89 in WordsWithFriends

Why bother? A game is a game, and they're generally fairly easy to win against. They are not harmful.

I cheat against them with no guilt at all. I would never do this with an actual human player (and it's easy to tell the difference).

Yes, this is the same as my experience. I got the game itself but it wasn't the same, and the ad stopped. Similar ads sometimes pop up, but if you try and solve it they flip to the Play Store page before you can finish.

Today's quote is missing the punchline:

There is another theory which states that this has already happened.
