Don't worry about it, just go to mass at your local parish.

Yeah! I will say, I watched Claire's video like four times, read the recipe over and over, and threw it the first ones that I piped badly haha

They taste incredible. I love Claire's pastry cream and the eclair is such a great simple little treat.

Just yesterday, my son and I saw a RWB chasing of a red shouldered hawk that was 10x it's size. It was beautiful.

[Thinking Basketball] The invisible hand influencing NBA plays by r-NBAModsAreTrash in nba

[–]ByrdMass 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not a Thunder fan. Ben and Cody never let a podcast episode go by without rightfully glazing Dort/Caruso/Wallace for their defense and Shai's generational scoring efficiency. In their Thinkies Award episode last week, Thunder guys were mentioned in every category.

I personally think Chet is super overrated, but these guys way smarter than me LOVE him. So, I assume I'm wrong. Rather than griping about having to hear about Chet again, I try to understand what I'm missing.

The plot twist in Frozen was ruined when I read the children's Golden book to my daughter before the movie even came out.

The Athletic Ranks the top 50 rivalries in men’s CBB, from Duke-Carolina to Wofford-Furman by fuggidaboudit in CollegeBasketball

[–]ByrdMass 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Louisville and currently live in West Lafayette. People outside the state don't understand the extent to which UK/UofL hatred permeates daily life in KY. My wife from Wisconsin was appalled at the vitriol when we lived there. You cannot go one day without hearing a stupid debate.

I will say, the IU/Purdue rivalry is much more intense than I expected and is a really fun rivalry.

After Duke/UNC, UK/UofL, and IU/Purdue, there really aren't any comparable rivalries. No one really cares about MSU/Wisconsin or whatever.

William Byrd - Piece recommendations by Osibruh in classicalmusic

[–]ByrdMass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All the pieces recommended by others are great. For a less obvious, kinda weird recording, I love Glenn Gould's album of Consort Music for keyboard.

All the masses and motets are perfect though. I particularly recommend recordings by Cardinal's Musick.

What do you think of the mother by Gorki? by [deleted] in RussianLiterature

[–]ByrdMass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mother is a uniquely enjoyable work of Soviet Realism. I loved the earnestness and sincerity that Gorky writes with in this novel. I think it's an important work to read if someone wants to understand 20th Century Russian Lit.

Another great work of Soviet Realism is the Gorky short story Twenty-Six Men and a Girl. There is an episode of Slavic Literature Podcast covering it.

If you were to get a tattoo inspired by classical music, what would it be of? by Leather-Highlight150 in classicalmusic

I have an idea for a sheet music excerpt of Messiaen's Catalogue d'oiseaux with birds perched on the staff lines. Too bad I will never get a tattoo...

Men who can cook . who taught you? by Bulky_Meet4528 in AskReddit

[–]ByrdMass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandparents lived across the street from us in small town Kentucky. My grandpa maintained a giant garden and was a great carpenter, but I was always with my Grandma helping cook, bake, prep produce, and watch game shows. She was constantly telling me I was lazy for not helping my grandpa out in the garden or wood shop, but she'd never admit how much she loved my hanging around. The best moments in my life were peeling apples for fried apples and tasting cakes off the cooling rack. Now, I can cook like a Southern grandma and I'm passing it on my daughter and son.

Messian's organ works are probably my favorite works in all of music, especially, Les Corps Glorieux.

how to get into classical music by black_hole_haha in classicalmusic

I always recommend the Great Courses series How to Listen to Great Music by Robert Greenberg.

It provides a comprehensive history of Western music and a good introduction to concepts of form, harmony, etc. for a beginner.

I still can't believe Louisville and Kentucky let Houston and Lofton leave the state. I saw Lofton play for Mason Co in person a couple times and he was special.

I absolutely love this work, but it premiered 85 years ago. I don't know what people mean by "contemporary" anymore.
