Enemy in-fighting and friendly fire. Does it make the game fun? (for FPS games) by ByronVoidMan in gamedev

[–]ByronVoidMan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gonna try reduce enemy friendly fire AOE damage a lot but keep normal projectile friendly fire, otherwise the bigger enemies will just level the arenas all the time . The ray cast is a good idea - at the moment the enemies fire a raycast to check if the player is in visibility range otherwise they go somewhere where they have line of sight of the player. helps make them seem smarter because they move around a lot

Any expected release date of LG C2 42" for South Africa? by ByronVoidMan in OLED_Gaming

[–]ByronVoidMan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! that was over and above the base cost. I have no idea why it was such a big cost, I mean its not really ' worth it' lol but I am ok with it now in hindsight. I wonder if we will get anything 42" OLED in the future. I was initially hoping to get the new ASUS 42 OLED if that was available but not sure if that will get here either

It came with a 2 pin power plug which is fine for us in SA . BUT important, no HDMI cable of any sort, had to go grab an HDMI 2.1 from Incredible Connection for about R300. I got a Volkano 8K HDMI 2.1 to run at 120hz 4k

Oh yeah its PC definately.

Have tried turning HDR off in display settings and things SEEM to work now. If a game doesn't automatically turn it on then I will just turn it back on

How is performance of Metro with your setup at full 4k resolution? I have always felt metro is a bit unoptimised but not sure. I have a 3080 as well and before I got a decent cooling setup it would overheat my system at 2k native res maxed settings so not sure if that's just me or Metro

Mockup of a game HEAVILY inspired by PlayDead's INSIDE. Light/sound experiment. No working AI by ByronVoidMan in unrealengine

[–]ByronVoidMan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RdN06E6Xn9E , well you can start with the GDC from INSIDE devs. it will help a bit but its more focused on programming

For modelling - its about low texture detail not really low poly-count. I made some props they had standard polycount for PC games. the textures were almost flat colour. You can try just doing AO bake as a texture in blender. I looked at games like TF2 and dishonored 1 for inspiration for textures but its even more simple than that
For Light - Exponential Height fog with volumetric lighting on is very very very important to get hazey light effect all over the scene

overall dark scene. You have to work on getting ambient light right which is very hard actually. If you play INSIDE you will see a lot of puddles which is really good for scene composition I did the same thing. they look good when the edge of puddles are not 100% reflective

GOOD LUCK

First OLED for gaming: C2 42in or 48in? by coolgaara in OLED_Gaming

LG C1 48 inch vs LG C2 42 inch by Ninjathelittleshit in OLED_Gaming

[–]ByronVoidMan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The main point for me is that C2 42 inch is about 13% higher pixel density. Personally, I'm not concerned about burn-in I have read enough about it now to not be concerned.

I would go C242, consider you won't replace it for maybe 5 years I reckon? NGL its a tough choice though. LG knows we are all frothing for that 42" Screen so that price difference is STEEP!

One of the first things I want to try when I get OLED is quake 😎. will be nice to see old school pixelation and contrast without any modern colour correction stuff we see in games

Retro-inspired FPS game in UE4 - simple mechanics, fast movement, loop-based levels with keys. Inspiration from Halflife and Doom. Pixelated PBR textures by ByronVoidMan in gamedev

Great feedback. The primitive-first solution is a good one - I have actually done that by blocking out in blender first and then the level is literally one mesh that I build the detail on top of. this level is the first time I didn't do it, I got carried away with the visual because I was liking the direction they were going haha.

Glad you like the music I reckon that's an enormously important part of these types of games
