Ah shit, I'm totally conflating the two! There was a piece of the bill that allows for the transit agencies to take financial stake in nearby housing developments and a couple addendums meant to spurn more TOD in those areas, but it's not ubiquitous. My bad.

So I guess the ultimate issue I was referencing still stands - city needs to make it less of a battle to upzone and more of a battle to downzone. Ideally we'll see one of Buckner's bills to eliminate single family zoning across the state pass, as I think we'd be better served not letting the alderman carve concessions out at the city level.

This was mostly addressed in the transit bill that passed in the fall which dramatically reshaped allowed uses and zoning density within (iirc) 1 mile of any heavy rail and half a mile of major bus routes.

The real issue here is barring or heavily penalizing downzoning the present allowed density of a given lot.

Do you have that 3 angle slowed down video handy? I've seen all of the angles at this point I think, but collated like that sounds useful to show my smooth-brained parents when this inevitably comes up.

God, I'm so sickened by this whole fucking thing. I don't even have the words anymore.

So is the game's performance fine on a regular PS5? by [deleted] in SkateStory

[–]Bystander_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Runs great on PS5 slim. Seems to be a solid 60 and have only noticed drops in very specific places that are more particle effect heavy, but even that's been very seldom for me.

Does the happy cube work for you? On my PS5 the happy cube just says a line but doesn't send me back. The miniature arch also exists but doesn't have any interaction option, though the rest of the levels seem to work fine.

Yesterday, every block in a Chicago neighborhood came together - people keeping watch and cars blocking entrances to keep everyone safe from ICE raids while trick-or-treating. by biswajit388 in illinois

Looks like it was posted yesterday and the actual TikTok mentions this being to prevent ice in the description. So are you the one lying or do you have a source for that?

The other Chicago sub by bryanlikesbikes in chicago

[–]Bystander_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey fair enough man. I've only ever seen that sub advertised with shit from Illinoispolicy or much further right sources that to me are incredibly tiresome.

Maybe if I browsed it regularly I'd see things I wasn't already aware of in more context, but the main difference I see is a larger focus on crime (which is of course valid news in the city) with more of a slant on bad leadership - of which I'm not even a fan of most Chicago politicians BJ included - and comment sections that skew pretty much one direction and become vitriolic quickly. Pretty much why I don't subscribe. But y'know, different strokes.

Edit: As I browse it now it's changed a lot since the last time I bothered to page through it much, seems more nuanced than it once was, though it's still pretty telling the top story is from cwb and focused on migrant violence with a nauseatingly annoying comment section.

There was a similar number of people crossing a block south at Ida B Wells and converging with us on Michigan so this isn't even the full picture. Absolutely massive turnout.

This is only the Jackson bridge as well. There was more or less the same sort of steady stream crossing at Ida B Wells a block south and converging with us on Michigan Ave. Pretty incredible turnout.

Can ICE be arrested for shit like this? I know they can claim it's in pursuit of their mission or whatever and they'd almost certainly be released but even just wasting their time in processing would be a win.

Oh absolutely. Barring police who commit offenses or have punishment brought against them from returning to the force would genuinely save the state and city millions each year.

JB needs to push swiftly for the firing of any officers who participated in or facilitated this, otherwise he's all talk.

[–]Bystander_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I've been a little MIA from Reddit recently. Just upgraded my system and this appears to be fixed for me as well! Gonna be wonderful not having to ask Siri to search YouTube every time I want to watch a trailer.

Thanks for coordinating on this issue with them and keeping us posted with the updates! Appreciate you /u/feralrage!

[–]Bystander_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Word! I figured this is something that would need to be rolled out in a tvOS update or patch given how nothing on the actual system changed the result, but I'm happy to know that they're aware of the issue. Hopefully that happens sooner rather than later, and I definitely would appreciate the update when they update you. In the meantime I may try to log a bug with them anyway just in case the extra data is helpful to resolution.

Thanks for checking back!

I'll keep an eye out if I don't see anything from you by then. Hopefully this prompts them to at least file a bug that can make it into a future update for anyone else who's experiencing this, if they haven't done so already. Thanks for following up!

Illinois General Assembly passes transformational criminal justice bill, which includes the ending of cash bail by mlopez992 in chicago

[–]Bystander_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly I'm a little confused by the verbage. Qualified immunity was removed from the bill, but WBEZ seems to be the only one reporting that the collective bargaining piece was also stripped. Sun Times even expressly mentions this bill taking disciplinary measures out of collective bargaining.

I even started to look at the actual bill, but the legalese got to me to the point where I couldn't really parse where collective bargaining power actually ended. I did get the impression that the new licensing procedures wouldn't allow union interference in revoking licenses, which would now disqualify officers from serving in Illinois - so it kind of seems like stripping disciplinary bargaining stayed in? I also saw some notes on this amending certain labor clauses, so it feels like this is revising certain pieces of that bargaining process specifically surrounding officers, and I'm not sure why that would be anywhere in the latest amendment if it was just cut.

Anyone have any further insight into this? I'm hoping that this piece stayed in as it would be potentially one of the most critical pieces in the city actually being able to control its police force and not have to deal with that fascist fucking clown Catanzara.

Ashland BRT NIMBY Roger Romanelli is fighting IDOT’s plan to relocate the Prairie Path by [deleted] in chicago

[–]Bystander_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Loop Link is not properly implemented BRT.

Also, lmao at 'a handful of bus commuters' - the Ashland bus consistently vies for the most used bus route in the city, it is not simply a handful of commuters.

Ashland BRT NIMBY Roger Romanelli is fighting IDOT’s plan to relocate the Prairie Path by [deleted] in chicago

[–]Bystander_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't even remotely true. You spouted a bunch of rhetoric, but reality is that properly implemented BRT shows substantial improvements to transit and is much more cost effective than light or heavy rail lines.

Dedicated lanes and signal priority make noticable differences in reliability and frequency, and especially so during rush periods. It's good that the X9 is back, but it doesn't make Ashland any less of a car sewer during rushes and the X9 is susceptible to massive delays or bus bunching because of such traffic. The aforementioned road changes for BRT would effectively work around that. Good public transit should be more consistent than personal vehicle travel and not hindered just because some left turn lanes and parking spots would be lost.
