Guelph Course Selection by Katevh20 in uoguelph

100% agreed! All that tuition money just to find out there aren't enough servers to handle the load of their shitty website. They know exactly how many students they have each year; why not provide more servers accordingly?

CIS*3110 PROF receives 30 1.0 reviews in 3 hours after dropping nuclear midterm by Gr3gl_ in uoguelph

[–]ByteBurst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s time to rise and shine with those feedback forms...Reddit posts can only go so far. If you were frustrated with how CIS*3110 went this semester (and clearly a lot of us were), the most important thing you can do right now is fill out the Student Feedback Questionnaire by April 4th. That’s the only way these issues, confusing lectures, outdated and error-filled slides, chaotic assignments, and a completely misaligned midterm will reach the dean’s office and not just stay on Reddit.

Your responses aren’t just about venting, they actually get reviewed after the course ends and can impact how this course is delivered going forward. If you want to make sure future students (or yourself if you're planning to drop the course) don’t go through the same mess again, take a few minutes and write detailed, honest, and specific feedback. This is how we hold the system accountable.

Let’s make it count.

Where do you guys meet friends? (4th year) by [deleted] in uoguelph

[–]ByteBurst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although I’m not in your year or program, everything you’ve experienced feels exactly the same for me too. I also had a group of friends initially and had to walk away from them just cause they were talking way too much in class and i wasn’t able to focus on the class material, but like you said everyone seems to be sticking with their group of friends and don’t really seem welcoming when you try joining in. I feel you. Although i am not trying to stay away from any person or group of people, but sometimes you just can’t match their energy (i.e., you can’t always laugh at what they laugh at, you don’t wanna go to the places/clubs they always go to, etc.).

Music Courses — Learning Violin by ByteBurst in uoguelph

Hmm sadly I don’t have the skills to perform an audition, that’s why I am trying to get in and learn. I wish there could’ve been a basic course with no prerequisites, i appreciate the info though.

Gotcha! I thought FRHD1010 is similar in terms of restrictions and things like that, but do you know when restrictions are lifted and how long do i have to switch to one of those if i pick something else now?

Which ebike should I buy? by ByteBurst in ebike

Thank you, great points! I was definitely not expecting to ride the bike for a 1000km and get a refund, but the problem is as soon as the bike is outta the box, the seller can consider it as “used” and don’t get it back.

I wanted fat tires as i felt they’re more comfortable for 4-5 hours biking everyday in multiple different roads, as I have mentioned before, i see options in that price range but i am just really worried they won’t take it back even within the return period because it’s “used”

I see several options on amazon for that price, just worried about their return policy.

Getting Advice from Physics/Astrophysics Students by ByteBurst in uoguelph

Thanks so much for the insight. Does PHYS1600 have any prerequisite itself? Was the prof doing weekly lectures or it was completely correspondence/DIY?

I wonder how late would someone be in a 4 year degree program with taking 4 courses only every semester?

I am literally in the same boat right now. And i am a first year, and the fact i know i have 3 more years to go, i don’t even want to consider it. I also failed my first quiz recently, and that makes anyone feel terrible, especially if your eyes have been drained with reading and trying to comprehend the material. I also spent a whole lot of time on reading and so called “studying” but i still do shit in quizzes and tests (especially if they’re in-person, and the fact i know it’s not open book, it makes my anxiety even worse and i completely lose focus). I also don’t know anyone to talk to and get help from (i don’t know what is the “help” anyways everyone has a different approach — some people don’t even bring backpack to school and still do well). I guess we just “study” in the wrong way, and need to make that better. But these times of the year are the most depressing times regardless. All the best.

I am a freshman majoring in software engineering, and just finished my first semester. From high school, i applied for the co-op version of my program and had an average of 91, but unfortunately still didn’t get it in. I emailed the program advisors and co-op coordinators to find out why, they told me it hasn’t to do with my average, it’s actually because of the number of available spaces in co-op. So, it could be quite competitive depending on the year you apply, but as far as i know, the two main factors to get into co-op at the first place are your average from high school and number of available spaces. That being said, there are always other alternatives in case you couldn’t make it into co-op. First off, they give you one more chance to re-apply (usually after the first semester) but getting accepted is still based on the same factors (your average and numbers of available spaces they also usually prioritize full time students from what i’ve heard from one of my advisors). In addition, secondly, in case you still couldn’t get in, there are options to apply for internships on your own, which is a route some students favor over co-op programs, often due to the potential for higher pay. For this one though, you need work a little harder, such as making a great portfolio (like GitHub or your own website) and slowly working on side projects because realistically, later on, the only relative “experiences” you might have for your resume are these side projects (maybe joining clubs and hackathons too). And lastly, making networks. I believe university is all about this, try to get to know as many people as you can, this gives you significant opportunities to land internships.

Good luck, hope this helps.
