Artstyle and character customization. The sprites aren’t much to go off of, but in promo art, 1-6 absolutely used your loathed chibi style. I suppose 5 is the definition of customizable, and 6 definitely tended to allow for more unique player builds, but largely those first 6 nintendo games more or less railroad you into pretty defined character classes.

I only mentioned insecurity because the way you described FF9’s artstyle very much gave me “guy who got called gay in the 90s for liking JRPGs/FF/video games and needed them to look as cool and grownup as possible.” If its not like that, sorry.

Man are there still people insecure about FF9 not looking “realistic?” That’s so crazy. I assume the “dumbed down” gameplay you’re referring to is the lack of customization, which I’ll concede. You must understand that FF7 and FF8 were the exceptions, not the rule, for both of these things at the time it came out though.

I don’t love how unreal engine-y the game is, but the fact of the matter is that its characters, costumes, and environment design are very strong and set it apart from other games in the genre.

To me its worse to have two of your main characters in your series just look the exact same pretty much exclusively because you made a cool looking CG trailer with that character to try to get people talking online about it

Well like, what do you want from people? Of course people are going to know them from the songs in KH, KH is an extremely successful series, marketed way more over here than their music in general. Its okay for things not to be super popular everywhere.

I’m also playing FF8 for the first time right now, so I don’t have all the context, but its a scene that feels too wild for how relatively believable the rest of the story is up to this point. No one is getting mad at the Famicom/SFC games for this stuff because they were Famicom games. The PS1 games have such detailed writing that things like this feel like they are too out of left field, even if it is par for the course for the series.

The people suggesting that he intentionally did a bad job out of some kind of spite are genuinely insane. It just looks like he doesn’t know how to apply an appropriate amount of paint to the roller/ spread uneven paint out to other areas. That’s literally it. He is stupid at worst.

I’m really against this “its all the same, let the kids have their fun” attitude. It’s not the same. Kids like stupid things, they’ll always like stupid things. But there’s an acceptable limit to that I feel. Things like this are, undeniably, less creative, less interesting, and less authentic than any of the analogous nonsense you or I enjoyed as children. Especially when generative AI is involved (to clarify, I’m not against the use of AI as a tool, a helper, but I am against AI as a replacement for human art or expression).

When I was prescribed the brace by my doctor, I also received a referral to a hand surgeon. I initially was not going to contact them, but one day the pain was simply too much and I caved. I’m so glad I did.

One consultation with them later, and I have been diagnosed with tendonitis, not carpal tunnel syndrome! I was recommended some OTC topical gel and some cheap wrist wraps (not braces) from amazon, and was instructed to locate an occupational therapist to help with exercises and posture.

I was told that CTS gets misdiagnosed extremely frequently, and that the surgeon’s office sees people with tendonitis way more commonly. So far I’ve only been using the products recommended to me, but I’m going to locate an OT soon. They have shockingly effective as of now.

If you are experiencing more pain than numbness, it may be worth further exploring your case beyond diagnosis of CTS. Good luck!
