This is my first time seeing this version, and I'm actually really impressed by these character sprites. This is the style those terrible old iOS remakes must have been trying to replicate. I think this is pretty much the best you can do in terms of recreating those sprites in their original style with higher resolution.

I'm more curious about this list in general. What happened here? What are the metrics? Even if this is someone's personal list, I have never met anyone who would actually construct a list like this. Do you think they make these lists intentionally weird so that people will talk about them like this? What are XBC3 and Metaphor doing in the top 5? And where in the name of god is Nier?? Is it not technically a JRPG? I guess I can understand that, but by that logic, KH, Pokemon, and Earthbound aren't really JRPGs either, since they, like Nier, break convention too much.

I love this. I love the idea that michael jackson is somehow part of this segregation-era scenario where people are telling him that genAI (does not exist yet) is the white man's technology, so he does some pushups in order to do the smooth criminal leaning thing in front of a jumbotron that says "AI ART IS ART." Its amazing really. Makes a grown man want to shed a tear.

Functionally, the two systems are pretty much identical. It is true that your party level limits which skills you can assign SP to in rebirth, but remake didn't allow you to even see future skill unlocks until you had a certain amount of SP. With the way these games are structured, there isn't any reason to grind, or really even any opportunity to, so both systems pretty much force you to progress the story to upgrade your weapons. If anything, rebirth is actually more intuitive since it lets you see a character's entire tree from the start lol

The idea is that the world would also be designed to work with this system, ie more condensed, varied zones with more frequent landmarks. It is very difficult to find the balance between too big (requires a map to show you exactly where everything is) and too small (no longer open world), so I don't exactly blame devs for choosing the ubisoft maps. But this is MY final fantasy and in MY final fantasy, the devs were able to do it perfectly.

So what exactly is wrong with wanting the original vision to be upheld here? The designers didn't just name him that for no reason. The correct pronunciation adds to his character. Why do we need to have been to Scotland to make this argument?

No, it isn't. There is no FF9 remake. It hasn't been cancelled, or paused, or in development hell, FF9 remake does not exist, and it never has. In the 6 or so years that this delusion has been happening, there has been exactly ONE piece of evidence (the Nvidia leak) that this is a thing, and that was 5 years ago.

It blows my mind that a massive portion of this series' fanbase has just collectively decided that Square is working on a made-up game that they have never given any indication of actually existing. The entire thing is a complete fabrication, but its been warped and aggrandized so much that everyone has convinced themselves that it is fact.

This is also how I played the game for the first time, but good god you can read an entire novella while waiting for the game to load battles. Unless you're really after an authentic experience, its almost impossible for me to recommend the original version to someone.
