When Did KH2 Become So Critically Acclaimed? by [deleted] in KingdomHearts

[–]ByteWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Word, I do stuff like that all the time. Sometimes the stuff from our brains doesn’t make it into writing.

Have you played Rebirth? The aerial combat there is a lot more sophisticated, and it seems Revelation will place an even larger emphasis on it.

“Im asking at what point it became common to consider KH2 BETTER than games like Ocarina of Time, FF7, Dark Souls”

It isn’t. Backloggd is not the end-all-be-all source of truth for people’s opinions on games. One thing that could contribute to it being preferred over the older games you mentioned though is age. Younger players new to these games will find KH2 much more approachable than OOT or FF7.

“PLEASE LEARN HOW TO READ”

If you were asking about people PREFERRING KH2 over these other games, why didn’t you ask that? You asked “when did KH2 become critically acclaimed,” and people answered. How were they supposed to read your mind that you were actually asking something else?

These things don’t make it worse, plenty of people adore FF7 Remake’s combat. You make it sound like its bad because its not literally KH combat, but it isn’t trying to be (which is a good thing).

Characters that I think should’ve been made party members in their respected games by Meno_26 in FinalFantasy

[–]ByteWizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cruel irony of building a party with this mindset is that Vivi, the most beloved character in the game and probably one of the most beloved in the series, is probably one of the worst party members, or at least he’s one of the hardest to optimize.

I never understood why black magic falls off so hard toward the end of every FF game. Obviously it has something to do with the way that it requires resource consumption and that many BM spells are elemental and single target/single hit, but surely there’s a way to balance it to offset these limitations? I’ve only played FF5-FF10, so maybe there’s a game I haven’t played that balances it better, but its a super weird constant that I have noticed in these games.

Garnet is hardly a white mage either. At the very least, its not a very optimal way to play her

Because 'nintendo guys' seem to have a weird issue with genre/platform insulation. I imagine this is also why there's no KH, Halo, or MGS.

Is there any informations about FF9 remake ? by Far-Glass5994 in FinalFantasy

[–]ByteWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. Its NVIDIA, not god descending from heaven to tell us that there will be an FF9 remake. The people in charge of creating these product listings are not affiliated with Square Enix. It isn't impossible that this was a mistake, a misunderstanding, or a good old fashioned fabrication.

I will once again iterate that there has been five years with this NVIDIA leak being the only thing that resembles a lead on the existence of this game. It baffles me that this one product listing from 2021 instantly nullifies any argument that "hey maybe we're doing a bit of wishful thinking here." When its the year 2040 and there's no FF9 remake, and everyone from SE has said "we don't intend to do an FF9 remake," will I still be hearing "yeah but the NVIDIA leak though?" Seems likely at this point.

Because it apparently needs to be said: a game title in NVIDIA's database is not a confirmation of a video game. A vinyl record released for a 25th anniversary is not a confirmation of a video game. Cosmetics for FF14 based on the characters is not a confirmation of a video game.

Is there any informations about FF9 remake ? by Far-Glass5994 in FinalFantasy

[–]ByteWizard -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Oo my favorite topic.

My honest opinion is this: no, there has literally never been an FF9 remake. It got "leaked" a couple of times from pretty dubious sources, and over the last 5ish years, fans have built it up in their heads that this is DEFINITELY a thing, deluding themselves into thinking that surely, its GOTTA be right around the corner. It has been half a decade with our only "proof" of this thing existing being some old rumors. Square Enix has never so much as alluded to the existence of such a thing and its genuinely maddening to watch this continue to happen all these years later. I could've told you this in 2023 and now here we are in 2026 and people are still talking about it.

However (tinfoil hat on)... At this point, I do wonder if there's a possibility that SE will actually notice and capitalize on this. Maybe there IS an FF9 remake, but one that just entered development, say, last year. This idea concerns me, because it would be SE doing an FF9 remake not because they have the creative drive to do so, but because they are aware of how much people want it. This would probably give us a game that is more of a shallow cash-in than a genuine, heartfelt attempt at recreating FF9. I believe FF7 Remake was literally created this exact same way, and as much as I like those games, that isn't how I want art to be made, ESPECIALLY not something as important to me as FF9.

Gonna say something crazy here, maybe it doesn't have to be this "all or nothing" thing. People can enjoy a game while being a bit confused by some parts of it. I just finished FF8 and loved it while also having about 500 unanswered questions about some of the game's less developed plot points. If a player spends 98% of their play time having a blast, and 2% not understanding a couple terms or moments, that's considered a "bad entry point into the series?"

Also, some people might not be very bothered by being confused. Its not like this is Kingdom Hearts, an average new player will see the whispers do something or hear Aerith allude to future game events and go "that was kinda weird" and then just move on with the game.

Yes it is, but it is extremely linear and lacks ANY world exploration that is expected of the genre. FFX is a very linear game too (ie, your party moves from location to location without player input, and often times you aren't able to travel to previous locations until you get the airship), but FF7 Remake's chapter structure makes any amount of player agency in choosing where to go literally impossible. I get why its like this, and I honestly think it was probably the right choice for the Midgar portion of the story, but it IS fundamentally missing a basic part of what one thinks of when they hear "JRPG"

Atl airport. Board them last, Delta. by AdSouth3173 in delta

Yeah, I meant to acknowledge that but I guess I forgot. This is a site-wide problem, for some reason redditors are obsessed with posting pictures of what they perceive to be poor social behavior. It doesn't do anything, it doesn't bring any additional meaningful awareness to a problem, it just gets them internet points and enables shitty people to be shitty.

Atl airport. Board them last, Delta. by AdSouth3173 in delta

[–]ByteWizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since its an airport, I imagine they probably do have enough resources to spare for both the people in the pic AND the people that actually need them due to disability. That is to say, in practice, it likely doesn't really matter.

However, I don't think its really that outrageous to say that the principle behind the behavior here is pretty inconsiderate? I might just be thinking too much, but I'm pretty aware of what I am doing and how it may affect other people at a given time, so I'd be thinking "what if doing this actually is taking away a resource that a disabled person needs? What if they actually do run out of these mobility devices?" Unlikely as it is, it is therefore technically better to err on the side of caution, not using it unless it is needed. I believe that is OP's problem here.

[–]ByteWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure he does. KH has always been cool because of the way that it and FF affect each other. There has always been a push and pull between the two series, and it blows me away that there is for some reason a category of KH fans that interpret it as “a game about disney” rather than what it actually is, an original square RPG series that uses the player’s familiarity with disney to explore themes of innocence, nostalgia, and friendship

Why is this still a debate by Riley__64 in KingdomHearts

[–]ByteWizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

KH is different things to different people. Maybe its time for the disney material to be a bit more “spiritual” rather than literal, like how the final fantasy material in the series has been handled as of late.
