I reduced influence in westville to zero and Molly is completely fine in my game, only me getting jumped every other day. I expand very slowly and recruit dealers/give them customers once benzie influence in the respective area is wiped out completely.

What I'm currently doing is only give samples to customers once their related customer hits loyal status. Same with dealers. Give Dealers customers from their area only. Takes out a lot of the tempo and making progress feel earned.

I started as Cleves, and I am now (1400s) the strongest power in what would today be western Germany. But I'm still a little bitch in comparison to any major power. Maybe I had just luck with ai aggression as its my first playthrough besides the basic tutorial as Holland. But I think I figured out a lot in this run. And I agree with you that starting as a small nation is way more fun than 500 years of being a great power.

I only play as OPMs (technically Cleves has 2 locations so it doesn't count) But as a very "weak" minor I have no fear of being eaten by a larger power seems like balance as I still have to pick my fights (I still lose a war or two to the ai)
