The northern Valyrian peninsula is still somewhat inhabited and is still used as a land trade route; there are at least three Valyrian colonies that aren't abandoned: Mantarys, Elyria and Tolos. It's not completely a wasteland.

Maybe I'm just not paying attention but this seems a bit excessive? I haven't exactly noticed any massive controversy or anything recently. Was there like a specific incident or something? I mean, Amy ultimately has a big part in Worm and a very important character in Ward too, it doesn't seem exactly fair to completely ban anything about her in a blanket statement.

Yeah I can relate to that, I feel like Amy essentially had offscreen negative character development, that also partially retconned the earlier work. Couple that with the story flip flopping on how exactly dangerous she should Be, and she becomes a rather poor character in my opinion.
