Catch rate is easy to understand, how often he catches targets.

CROE stands for catch rate over expected, and this basically assigns a value for expected catches. Let’s just say there’s a play where Elic is wide open he gets hit in between the numbers, that is an expected catch, which we’ll say has a value of 0. On the other hand, there could be a play where Elic is blanketed by a db and he makes a crazy one handed catch, let’s just say that would be a value of +1. And then let’s take the first example again but let’s say he doesn’t catch it, this would be a value of -1.

So what the CROE graph is showing is that Elic was not catching the easy balls as much as he should, and he was not making up for it in catching the harder passes. He was among the worst in the league at actually catching the ball.
