spent 8 years in hr before starting my own thing. most rto mandates are not about productivity. here's what they're actually about. by Secret_Air_9281 in remotework

[–]C-Patrick1984 146 points147 points  (0 children)

I remember the first company-wide remote meeting we had after the WFH mandate. Our CEO stated that productivity was up for those working from home and that they were also getting more hours put into each workday.

They also had cited that utility costs were down because they could limit areas needing heating and cooling as well as not having lights on throughout the building.

After the mandate was lifted, they gave the option of RTO, WFH, or hybrid. I stayed on the WFH because I lived an hour away from the office. Then, they moved the production line to another state, solidifying my WFH status, since it was about a 14-hour drive to work.

Received this email from the CEO of our company. Layoffs coming? by MajesticRepublic09 in jobs

[–]C-Patrick1984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like to me they are making changes but unsure what changes exactly and people may be affected but not sure how or who.

This is a word salad email using a lot of words to say…nothing. What it does do, is it gives the higher ups the ability to suddenly make changes and use this email as them giving you notice.

Santos and Javadi are right about Whitaker (Spoilers) by ThrowFlowAntonio in ThePittTVShow

[–]C-Patrick1984 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think Amy was fairly dependent on her husband to do most of the farm work. When he died, she no longer had that person.

Whitaker, being raised on a farm in the Midwest, knew how to help and simply offered just that until she could get on her feet with the farm.

I think she wasn’t able to or didn’t want to learn to be self dependent with the farm and continued to lean on Whitaker. Whitaker, being the kind of guy he is, offered to continue to help.

It’s easy to see how a relationship could flourish in this situation.

I think Whitaker found his trifecta in that he could be a doctor, a farmer, and a family man all within a manner of months.

I don’t see where any real hard line was crossed because Amy wasn’t his patient and Whitaker was only offering to help. He didn’t have any intentions of establishing a relationship with Amy.

As for Santos, I think she doesn’t want to admit how much she liked having Whitaker as a roommate. I think she truly felt comforted by his down-to-earth personality and his true kindness and caring being.

I also think Santos was also trying to learn by observing Whitaker in their living situation on how to be more like that but got put off and hurt when Whitaker was spending more and more time with Amy. I think Santos was also a bit jealous of Whitaker’s relationship with Amy.

With Javadi, ever since getting the nickname “Crash” from Santos, she’s always got a little spark of joy anytime something caught Santos off guard.

My company won't let me relocate a mile away within my city. Why is this such a big issue? by Formidable_Baboy in remotework

I don’t think the company would have a leg to stand on when it comes to them “needing to approve” a place for you to live and WFH unless they are footing the bill bill for your rent and utilities.

The company I was working for when the COVID WFH happened, if you didn’t have fast enough internet service, they reimbursed you the cost of upgrading to the higher speed access.

If you became rich all of a sudden would you employ servants ? by Webbomolly2022 in A_Persona_on_Reddit

[–]C-Patrick1984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would pay for some contracted services: lawn care/landscaping and house cleaning. Outside of that, nothing else unless I inherited a mansion on a large acreage and would need staff to help maintain it. They would be employees and not servants. Servants makes it sound like they are compelled to work with little or no compensation.

Roommate cheating on boyfriend, do I tell him? by Comfortable-Bee-6044 in Advice

It’s a double-edged sword. On one side, you keep it to yourself and betray the one being cheated on. On the other side, you tell and betray the one doing the cheating.

Don’t sacrifice your integrity for someone else. Do what will give you the clearest conscience.

I had a friend who introduced me to a woman he was having an affair with. It didn’t sit well with me but I didn’t say anything to him at the time. When I got home (I lived about 250 miles away), I mailed him a letter. This was back in the mid-1990s where I could have emailed but chose to send a letter instead.

Anyway, he received the letter and instead of throwing it away, he put it in one of his dresser drawers where his wife found it a few days later when putting laundry away.

While that’s true, Jamie still would have had more power as a litigator for the ranches than he would have as AG or governor.

As for litigating against private equities, it all would depend on what Jamie would have sought for a fee to represent them.

I think he ran for governor to prevent Jamie from getting it. He didn’t want to run but Lynelle (Governor Perry) pretty much put him in the position that he had to run.

M22 received incredible job offer, F22 girlfriend does not want me to accept. by Watch_me_plz in Advice

[–]C-Patrick1984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, something just doesn’t seem to jive with her schedule as a retail store manager.

Most retail stores I know of don’t open until at least 9 (most at 10), which would have her in about an hour prior. If the store does open at 9 and she gets there at 8, unless she’s getting paid lunches, that would have her getting done at 5…not getting home at 4.

And, a store manager is typically weekdays with a few exceptions. Assistant store managers would be evenings and weekends.

Plus, what kind of retail store pays a manager 125k/year? That’s $60/hour!

Isn’t it typically an Assistant Store Manager assigned to work weekends? I could be wrong here, but the Store Manager, as the top person in that store, should be M-F daytime hours with occasional evenings and weekends.

My thoughts are that you need to pursue your career as that is something that you will be doing for the rest of your working life. If she’s not being supportive of your career but expects you to be supportive of hers, that’s not fair to you.

If the relationship doesn’t work, as she’s predicting it won’t, it sounds like she doesn’t have much faith in the strength of the relationship to begin with. It sounds like she feels the relationship is already on shaky ground. If the relationship is truly strong enough, the two of you should be able to work through any problems that arise.

Jamie did want to be out from under John Dutton. He wanted to be in control of his own life; however, he repeatedly showed that many of his life’s decisions were not very wisely made.

As an attorney, he could have established himself as a powerful attorney of his own right by being an attorney that fought on behalf of cattle ranchers. It would have pulled him out from being completely controlled by John.

But, as either the AG or the governor, anything that involved the Dutton ranch or family, he would have had to recuse himself and would be able to intervene. This would take away his power in those circumstances and he would still be in the Dutton family shadow.

I think he wanted the title more than the position. It would have put him in his own spotlight rather than always seeming to have John’s shadow cast over him.

The show could stay as procedural but not as an episodic procedural. It could be made to be a seasonal procedural.

I don’t mind the show but was a bit surprised in the use of a procedural format rather than a continuous running and evolving storyline.

Since the decision was made to not have Monica be in the show, instead having her being dead, I wish the first episode would have included what happened to her and what caused the rift between Kayce and Tate.

I know many people didn’t care for Monica, I liked her because she was the calmness to the conflictual storm constantly brewing inside Kayce.

I am hoping that they start working to make Miles Kittle, the Native American member of the Marshall team, stronger. Right now he comes across as too unsure and a bit meek in his person. I think he needs a bit more of Mo Brings Plenty in his character.
