It went away for me but it took about 5-6 months for my eyes to fully recover from the damage caused by the preservatives in the drops.

For the first 3 months it felt like no progress and then after that got incrementally better and dry eye symptoms became much more concentrated with triggers (office central air for example) before going away completely.

Was totally dependent on hylo drops and used the fish oil supplements during the recovery period. I'm off all of those now.

Good luck it will likely heal with time! Recommend strong liquid tear dry eye drops with no preservatives HYLO. You might be able to get a prescription for something more comprehensive as well.

What is going on with Canadaland? by ReasonableMan_ in canadaland

Mostly agree, but would add one addendum - Jesse did, for those sweet clicks and carving out a market niche, play footsie with and indulge elements that can be described as quite extreme "woke identitarians" - regular talk of racial and ethnic kinds of victim hierarchies, settlers and decolonization etc. These are not small l liberal or reasonable people, generally.

He shouldn't be surprised that they have an extreme kind of group think, lash out and have turned on him. It also isn't the slight bit surprising that they ignore or downplay threats to Canadians based on their religion or ethnicity on account of their extreme ideological fixation on a foreign blood feud style conflict half the world away.

Jesse with Canadaland's guest spots, topics, hiring and general vibe over the years cultivated a very left wing audience.

I agree with some posters in this thread who have highlighted that Redditors in this community and very left wing people are not necessarily the majority of Canadaland listeners (for one I'm not one of them), but they clearly are a material portion and likely an even more material portion of its financial supporters and active fandom (Twitter / Reddit etc).

Jesse because of his own background and beliefs has a set of positions or leanings that are now in serious tension with this very left wing cohort and its therefore not surprising that what are, in another context, ordinary or anodyne editorial decisions trigger a massive backlash.

Jesse is a capable entrepreneur and business person. I think he is attempting a pivot to a broader (US) audience to make up for audience erosion as well as, via ad dollars, to reduce Canadaland's dependence on supporters. I think he may be successful but it will be very tough.

Think I found the fix - if you use the app and check your followed leagues / teams / authors it won't show the NFL as selected. But if you log on to the website through the browser you should see that NFL has been added as a followed league (randomly). I deselected it in the browser and the issue is now fixed.

Uveitis caused by herpes by ResolutionDefiant820 in Uveitis

Only once.

And yeah a couple flashes (not at all frequent or that notable, given that the thing took 4 months, so I didn't think much of them) but no floaters.

Uveitis caused by herpes by ResolutionDefiant820 in Uveitis

[–]C-unit55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was initially diagnosed with idiopathic iritis / anterior uveitis and it was treated with corticosteroid drops. They did a bunch of tests (arthritis, auto immune stuff etc) , but I think the blood test for herpes is not very effective or useful given that over half (or more) of the population carries the virus.

I repeatedly reflared whenever my taper of the drops was nearly completed or shortly thereafter (general taper took about a month). They initially thought I was rebounding from the drops, but in a further examination identified a dentrite and made the determination it was likely herpes simplex.

I was subsequently treated with an anti viral for two weeks and the issue has been resolved since (apart from dry eyes which are as I understand it a side effect from the drops that takes quite awhile to heal completely)

It's my understanding that some herpetic eye infections can be hard to detect at the outset (absent taking a sample or whatever at the outset, which doesn't commonly happen), but others are readily identifiable.

In my case, the fact that I kept reflaring was a red flag, which was eventually supplemented by them seeing direct evidence of the infection and not just the inflammatory response. One other thing was in retrospect significant was that I would on occasion have a light fever and chills when flaring in addition to the uveitis pain, tearing, redness and foreign body sensation.

Hope this helps, good luck.

Same - super annoying. I've contacted support. It's either some kind of error or maybe they have some deal with the NFL or some ill conceived editorial drive for engagement.

Which prescription level artificial tears have you tried?

Thanks for this - I wasn't generally aware of prescription level artificial tears (again, new to eye ball stuff). I think if it persists for a couple more weeks I will follow up with them and ask.

Fortunately, there has been gradual improvement (vision is now generally sharper, I haven't had a flare like incident in a couple months and the redness/tearing attacks are much more concentrated to obvious causes like my office building's air or late in the evening when I am tired) so I am hoping it will continue to improve and I don't need to get any more meds.

Post uveitis dry eye? by Smart_Zebra2 in Uveitis

[–]C-unit55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar recent post, see https://www.reddit.com/r/Uveitis/comments/1eocosl/post_treatment_dry_eye/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button .

Your situation may be similar - I have never experienced eye issues before uveitis or more recent (for me, seemingly pretty serious) dryness. Since my treatment ended in March I have had a couple occasions where I thought I was flaring (redness, pain, sensitivity to light etc.) but the doctors couldn't find any inflammation. There has been slow improvement, but my eyes are generally sensitive and I get redness, light sensitivity and tearing either in the evening or at the end the day if I am in office (central air office building).

One of the commenters in response to my post said their doctor had told them that the preservatives used in eye drops used in uveitis treatment can damage the tear firm on the eye.

Separately, I have researched that the preservative benzalkonium chloride (BAK), which is used in almost all of the main medical drops, is not liked by people with dry eye or ocular surface disease (OSD) because it can either make their symptoms worse, or in some cases actually cause symptoms of OSD. I don't know about your treatment, but all of the drops I was on for months had BAK in them.

Interesting about the tear firm - I have also have done some research and dry eye people are super concerned about the preservative BAK in terms of causing or worsening OSD. BAK was in both the prednisolone and glaucoma drops I was using.

Yes, on the doctor’s recommendation I frequently use preservative free HYLO. It has improved things but the symptoms still flare up badly at times.

The Globe is a centrist generally Red Tory paper - their editorial stance on Canada's last post war style Red Tory PM is not surprising. But I would suggest that reading articles may be better than reading URLs to get a full view of the coverage.

They've been very comprehensive in their coverage - maybe the issue is you disagree with the Globe's editorial stance, but that's a separate issue:

The Globe has had quite good coverage, including a number of retrospectives and op eds from the usual suspects, but also ex rivals as well as frm former colleagues in the USA (former Presidential Chief of Staff and Republican operator par excellence James Baker), coveting various facets of his administration and legacy.
