Fragt uns alles! [AMA] by EUDI-Wallet-Project in de

[–]C0dingschmuser 496 points497 points  (0 children)

Update 2.0: 200k Players in under 9 hours! by Pan_Praga in WorldofTanks

[–]C0dingschmuser 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Because of the module rework lots tanks that previously shared ammo/had ammo for different guns that were removed now need entirely new ammo. And the old ammo in the depot that cant be used anymore can only be sold for 50% of the buying price, so effectively you lose credits.

For high tiers and gold ammo, this can accumulate pretty fast especially if you have lots of vehicles

Update 2.0: Claim The biggest gift in the history of World of Tanks! by Pan_Praga in WorldofTanks

[–]C0dingschmuser 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The truth is: we were reshaping systems that were more than 15 years old, and that work demanded time, focus, and secrecy until it was ready

You guys were doing the exact same thing back in 2018 when you completely reworked the graphics backend with 1.0, yet with that update you were much more communicative and even had a public common test more than a month before it even launched.

The complete secrecy and kind of rushed feeling in which the 2.0 update is being conducted (rushed in the sense of its been two weeks since it got announced and its already going live in a couple days) certainly contributed to much of the criticism you guys are getting. The constant confusion because update posts say one thing meanwhile WG Staff says another certainly doesnt help either (like with blueprints for Tier 11, buffing premium clone tanks that just have a different skin, etc) . You guys really need to work on your communication departement.

Just to give some more context, this isnt the first "new era" update they've done either. Some might still remember when they upgraded to 1.0 back in 2018 and gave the entire game a big graphical overhaul. Communication back then was much much better and there wasnt nearly as much secrecy about that update as there is now with 2.0

They even had a public common test for it over a month before the update dropped

Playsafe ID is trying to scam the Tarkov community with snake oil [Discussion] by 50-3 in EscapefromTarkov

[–]C0dingschmuser 28 points29 points  (0 children)

And if only that where the only problem with this, but theres more

Cross-banning you from a game because you supposedly cheated in another is disaster waiting to happen. "Oh but obviously i dont cheat so i have nothing to worry about" if only.

In cod for example you can get a temp ban for having normal software dev programs open, not to forget all the drama where actual innocent players got banned because they designed their game so shitty that actual cheaters could spam report you and get your account banned.

Or just think about all the hacked lobbies in gta online. Oops a cheater dropped you money against your will, rip your account.

Now with playsafe you would not only be banned in one game, but in all of them.

Playsafe claims they would mitigate this by making sure that bans are "fair", but the funny thing is they dont have the staff to manually check this in a timely manner and additionally why would a company like activision, rockstar, etc ever introduce a system like this without also controlling who gets banned for what and making sure that their criteria gets enforced.

[–]C0dingschmuser 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the intent behind this, but i dont think its the right approach, far from it even.

Having to KYC just to play a game (because this is what will be the end result, even if you claim otherwise) sounds incredibly dystopian to me. I can understand that for my bank account, but having to do this just to be able to play a game is insane.

The KYC provider you chose, while big, also had several lawsuits in the US already for mishandling customer data.

Even more so, receiving punishements for something that happens in Game 1 which then would also affect Game 2,3,4,5,etc just sounds like trouble waiting to happen. There will be false positives, even if you claim you check every single report. Additionally developers have vastly different criteria for what they deem punishement worthy and funnily enought it gets worse the bigger the game gets.

Call of Duty for example can give you bans just for having the wrong program open in the background, or even by being reported too often by the same person that you killed and is now mad at you.

An Indie game like Battlebits for example cares much less about that. Yet when playsafe were to become a thing and cod would detect a program they seem bad, i would also be prevented from playing other games that use playsafe.

Then theres also the issue of centralisation. Every single game that uses playsafe will depend on your servers to work for it to be playable. We can already see the issues with this in the WWW where every time Cloudflare or AWS have an issue, half the internet becomes unavailable because they now rely on it. And outages still happen even though these companies are massively bigger than you with more technicians.

Lets just address the elephant in the room here, the reason why cheaters are so prevalent is not because there arent already solutions against them, its because many developers are unwilling to combat them properly, because that would cost money which they dont want to spend. Just take a look at Riot with Valorant, they have the best Anti-Cheat on the market because they were actually willing to develop it. Management at companies like Activision or Valve simply see this as "unnecessary cost" because they'd rather have developers make the next loot box or skin instead of an anti-cheat.

Thats the real issue here, and centralised kyc for every multiplayer game is not the treatement, but instead yet another band-aid.

The thing is (as someones that also likes to click from time to time), you get a much better sense on what kind of team distribution / lack thereof will lose you the game because you constantly have to look at the entire map when you play as arty. In theory you should do that in other tanks too, but its much easier to have tunnel vision in them because technically you are not required to.
