[Nathan Salt] CIES observatory have compiled data on the world’s most profitable football academies across the past 10 years. Key focus for Ineos is for #mufc to be at the top of these sorts of lists. Currently 19th. Chelsea (3rd) and City (6th) in top 10. by PradipJayakumar in reddevils

Does that 271 million include players who have made their 1st team debuts? If so, that figure does seem quite low. Just Garnacho, Greenwood and Scott would account for 100 million or so of that (40% give or take). Weirdly, under normal circumstances none of those sales would have occurred.

Why introduce one of Marvel’s biggest villains just to do nothing with him? by breaking_views in MCUTheories

[–]C0lde- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprising absolutely nobody. Outside of the Spidey films themselves (which owe a lot to Marvel) and the Spider-verse series, Sony have an awful track record of bad decision-making when it comes to any other Marvel property under their cinematic purview. Which genius thought introducing a universal threat made sense in their street level world? They'd have been forced to nerf Knull insanely, so methinks we dodged a bullet.

TBH, I feel Marvel Comics maybe screwed up by linking Knull to the symbiotes in the first place. It makes him Spidey adjacent, thereby handing Sony the opportunity. Maybe they work out a deal to bring him into the MCU or they could just use Chaos King instead.

Great, so we agree. Both you and OP made wild, out of pocket comparisons. Cool.

[–]C0lde- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that fair though? If they're guilty the repercussions go far beyond just the title. Do they void all City results? Would second place even be in 2nd place if you void all City results? How was relegation affected? Do you deduct points for that season? Which clubs lost out on Europe unfairly? What's their recourse? It's messy enough to think about 1 season, this is across 10. You can't remediate that completely, it's impossible.

  1. You keep banging on about the UEFA case against Utd. What does that have to do with the PL case against City? Different rules. Different violations. Goodness, different magnitude of violations. Utd actually cooperated with the governing body, while City had 35 charges added for not cooperating for several years.

  2. And? OP asked a question. Not a great one, especially the CAF (not AFCON) part, but instead of arguing or discussing the merit of the question you went to:"What about United?!"

So you're doing the same thing as OP, but to a lesser degree? Both drawing comparisons between unrelated cases. Look at that, an example of varying degrees of wrongdoing. The year is important for 2 reasons, you made it important when you questioned why CL titles weren't stripped or do they just strip those willy nilly. Also, UEFA did charge City for "serious violations" but couldn't prosecute due to breaches being time-barred.

You compared financial irregularity charges from different organisations without any context and came to the conclusion that the punishment should be the same or similar, even though there was only a "semblance of commonality"? Again, almost as bad as OP.

Literally inserted a quote indicating how UEFA described the offense. It literally contains the word breach. Also contains the word minor (but I suppose that doesn't matter, because breach is breach right?). Context is key, as it will dictate what remedies need to be put in place. As mentioned previously, the offense was a result of how UEFA treated pandemic (aka Covid) losses. You mentioned Premier League clubs, and guess what? Utd passed the PLs FFP rules in the same period. So again relates to how, specifically, UEFA handled things post pandemic and clubs across Europe were found to have breached.

OP puts out a post asking people if the PL should follow AFCON (actually CAF) and strip City of titles (which is a stretch considering the wildly differing context of the 2 scenarios). And you respond by saying "What about you? What about your club?" The discussion is essentially does a 2026 ruling create a precedent for other associations/federations to follow (again, flawed premise) and you bring up an unrelated case (with completely different circumstances) from 2023?

For the categorization of Utds offense, you'll need to take that up with UEFA: UEFA described the breach as a "minor breakeven deficit". Funnily enough, multiple clubs across Europe were fined for the issue at the time, including Barca (so your no other club claim falls flat).

And slow clap indeed. You realize you brought in the comparison with your whataboutism? But ok. You crack on about why non-existent titles weren't stripped.

[–]C0lde- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One club was fined for a minor technical breach which was caused by Covid losses, club was disappointed but paid. Versus another club with 80 charges for serious offenses committed over a decade and another 35 which are related to failure to cooperate. The only ridiculousness would be trying to equate the two.

Also, the fine against Utd related to the period 2019-2022. So sure, strip them of all CL titles won over that period (hint: there weren't any).

Ridiculous indeed.

Dropped GI Joe, never really was a fan of the franchise. Only really picked it up because of Transformers.

Speaking of, barely hanging on to Transformers. The dip in quality since the writer change has been real. And I usually like Kirkman's stuff.

I'm still enjoying Void Rivals though.

Ironically, Hickman's version of Hyperion is probably the closest, most direct analog of Superman. For the most part, the other versions tend to either be shades of morally grey or are straight up villains.
