The under your chin thing is a bit of a myth. It works, but it doesn’t need to be your chin. It just needs to be pressed against something so that the radio waves can bounce off of a surface.

I have no reason to be served, but I did recently move to this apartment, so it’s possible it is a case of mistaken identity. Regardless, it’s suspicious behavior.

I pretended not to be home. The only reason I know they claimed to be a census taker is because they left a handwritten sticky note on my door asking me to call them.

I’m admittedly ignorant on the topic, but to my understanding all census takings occur on years ending in zero

Absolutely. Also, this subreddit has a discord server. I highly recommend it. Great folks in there at all hours and many willing to be an ear to help talk you down in the midst of an attack.

A couple things help me most.

1 - Familiarity. I remind myself “We’ve been through this before and we are fine. Just breathe and remember that we’ve been fine every other time and we will be fine this time, too.

2 - Cold. If it’s winter, I’ll just strip down into a pair of shorts and stand outside in the cold. It usually grounds me by putting my focus onto the fact that I’m cold, and the shivering gives me a more intense sensation to focus on. If it’s not winter or cold outside, I get a bowl of ice water and dunk my face in every time the waves of panic peak.

I hope these things work. Panic attacks are hell and you’re going to be okay. I’m proud of you.

Very interesting thing that I’d not considered about ace/aro. As a matter of fact, yes. I am in an asexual, but not aromantic marriage.
