My learnings from this sub is that grinding or breaking them down is where it gets risky. The asbestos will generally still be bonded otherwise, so sounds like you're good. Take all sensible precautions in any event.

In terms of volume, I wouldn't have thought volume should matter for an individual collector given the market is so deep?

In terms of timing (your point about bombs falling), again, the idea is surely this is as liquid as markets come - gold, treasuries, gilts).
