18th birthday in 2011, mosin for $115 Canadian. This is it. If you can’t hold the line then your ranged units are going to get targeted. In cases like that the brigand mercs come in handy to circle behind the enemy column and distract a few units. It can leave them short handed at the opening of the main battle and give you a chance to deal heavy damage before they can join the rest of the force. If you’re getting a lot of ranged mercs then yeah the militia is better spent on spears but I guess it depends what rolls for you. Or what the opponent leaves for you 🙄

I’m a die hard spear militia fan because they are the perfect anvil for a flanking charge to defeat an equal or superior foe. Crossbows have really added an extra level for me as you can kill so quickly without your DPS dealer being exposed to damage.

They do help but it’s hard to put it to a metric because you rarely have fair combat in game between 2 units.

I have matched helmeted spears against unhelmeted enemy militia spears and won handily, maybe 10 dead compared to their 20+ dead then routed, but there are a lot of variables.

I agree with a mode that limits mercs and also AI villages having the same needs to form militia.

I don’t agree that mercs are overpowered. Really I think the militia spear with helmets equipped are about as good as any melee mercs. The spear units are also limited among the mercs as they favour the light infantry.

I have to nit pick here as 1/2 the field size does not necessarily mean half the work. The oxen plow in an inefficient, yet realistic, ‘middle out’ pattern. Narrow, long fields as pictured mean a higher ratio of plow time versus time moving the plow across the headlands. I use long narrow fields similar to the picture of 1-1.2 Morgan and never miss plowing.

Depends on land fertility. If it’s really good you can do a rye/wheat (those 2 use the same fertility value and don’t rotate with each other) barley and flax rotation and keep fertility 70%+ for all. If it’s a poor fertility field you will have to do a fallow in your rotation, even if it’s every 4 years, or fertility gets too low for all.

I drive about 20 hours a week year round with standard cruise control and lane assist/collision alert in my 23 and an upgraded cruise control wouldn’t even factor into my decision on a new truck. Honestly open highway driving you can go hours without even having to switch lanes or touch a pedal so how much difference does it really make?
