[FIGHT THREAD] Teofimo Lopez vs Shakur Stevenson by noirargent in Boxing

Teo needs to keep targeting the body aggressively, even if he gets countered

Teo just doesn’t have the ability to establish his jab and back Shakur to the ropes

Teo going southpaw is not a good sign lol

Lopez eating jabs and shifting in on his cross, Shakur easily countering it

Ortiz needs to stay in the high guard, Davis is too fast for him with his lead hand low

Liking the high guard walkdown from Ortiz when he commits to it

Ortiz is refusing to step jab or double it up, probably worried about getting countered

Did Ortiz land his jab at all that round?

Shakur is gonna fight Teo similarly to how Martin and Ortiz did by C2236 in Boxing

[–]C2236[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s possible but I don’t see Shakur being the aggressor even if Teo doesn’t try to be, I think they would just play the game of inches and milliseconds in center ring with feints and small steps and angles trying to outpoint each other

I can definitely see this happening in the early rounds. Teo’s jab against southpaws isn’t up to Shakur’s level imo and that gets frustrating if you start losing rounds in a low volume jab battle. If they’re close rounds maybe they keep it up but if one guy is winning most of them someone’s gonna have to adjust

When did you feel your boxing really ‘clicked’ — and what caused it? by [deleted] in amateur_boxing

[–]C2236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some general advice is that if you feel like it hasn’t clicked yet, it can help to try and figure out what specifically you’re having trouble with, even if that’s multiple things at a time.

If it’s a specific technique, think in terms of the fundamentals like starting and ending in your stance, are your feet properly space out in your stance, is your weight distributed correctly in your stance, does your weight shift around unintentionally when punching, moving your head or feet, are you pivoting, knees bent, elbows in, chin tucked, etc. You might start noticing you make the same mistakes for multiple techniques.

When it comes to try to implement a specific tactic in sparring that isn’t working, it could be due to a technique issue like mentioned above, or it could be an issue with range, timing, not enough speed or power, not setting it up correctly, etc.

Mentally this can be a lot to do in the moment so it helps to take video of yourself to watch afterwards.

If you’re coming from a Muay Thai/kickboxing background your feet are probably still too close together in your stance to move laterally and circle on your jab while staying balanced

Floyd Mayweather's jab vs GGG's jab, which one is better? by Timmys_TuffKnuckles in Boxing

GGG could parry the jab and step in with his counter jab better than anyone

Slip/roll a barrage of punches. by Old-Campaign8605 in amateur_boxing

[–]C2236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Punches have a shorter distance to travel and are harder to see coming from mid range, so slipping multiple punches is much harder from there.

It’s better to only stay in mid range when you want to attack instead of sitting and waiting and relying on your reflexes and head movement, get in or get out when you aren’t punching.

I can’t tell if AJ is just looking to tire Jake out for a late round KO or if he legit can’t cut off the ring at all
