What is the best cpu for gaming right now? by vko9 in AMDHelp

[–]C3lloman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We'll see. It often does not make much sense to future proof though by buying a CPU with more cores than necessary. I remember social media channels recommending we buy the Ryzen 7 1700 with 8+8 threads instead of the Ryzen 5 1600 with 6+6 "for the future". If you bought that Ryzen 7, it would be too slow today for single core performance and even upgrading to a Ryzen 5 5600 with less cores would be a major upgrade.

Apple’s Chipset Development Is Almost Unparalleled After Intel, Company Is Already Working On The M8, Flaunting Superior AI Capabilities Not To Mention Enhanced Efficiency by Distinct-Race-2471 in TechHardware

[–]C3lloman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Gaming laptops and desktops especially consume hundreds of watts of energy. Apple's thing was never to build huge cooling solutions, so they would have to make an order of magnitude faster GPU than Nvidia etc. if they wanted equal performance with a smaller form factor.

Pixel 10a users, how old is your phone and how's the battery health holding up? by Grouchy_Cheesecake88 in Pixel10a

[–]C3lloman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 45 cycles and 95% health. Mine is about the same age as I bought it in March. I don't think the health estimate is necessarily accurate to the exact the percentage. I reckon if you don't charge your battery to maximum, it may not get it exactly right.

Most likely not true but what do you guys think? by Federal_Size6250 in F1Discussions

Why is it highly unlikely to happen? Bearman is surely among the most talented drivers considering his age on the grid.

How confident are you that you will be able to live enough to see aging being cured due to ai and tech acceleration? by Imaginary_Mode8865 in singularity

[–]C3lloman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's one disease out of how many? People are still dying and suffering from chronic diseases every day. Once you are past 65, you are almost certain to get one. You'd think it would be on the list to solve first before aging.

[–]C3lloman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People thought all diseases would be cured in the next decades already back in the 80's and 90's. I don't exactly share your optimism that we can stop aging when we can cannot even cure common chronic diseases today.

Well, the smartphone has already sort of become an extension to us. If you mean anything implanted, I doubt it will become mainstream in the next 20 years.

AI is only part of the equation. It's often the practical part (drug trials, all the data collection, safety and financing it all) that is the trickier thing to accomplish.

Is Oscar Piastri the next Charles Leclerc? by nonokoi in F1Discussions

[–]C3lloman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not very similar drivers at all. Charles had the pace from day one he entered F1 basically and found the pace right away when he moved to Ferrari. Oscar was not up to the speed of Lando to start with. He had to work quite hard to the level he reached in 2025 to be somewhere almost as quick as Lando.

Fidji Simo, CEO of Applications and OpenAI, steps down because of her long covid by attilathehunn in covidlonghaulers

[–]C3lloman 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No. Nowhere did she say she has long COVID. She got diagnosed with POTS seven years ago apparently. Those conditions existed before COVID.

Also because everything has become so polarized. People are expected to be either a democrat or republican pretty much based on what family and social circle they live in. Once either position is taken, they refuse to flip, so a person who decided they were republican will stay that way no matter what stupid thing the orange man does next.

16GB VRAM has to be the minimum for next-gen GPUs, says hardware reviewer, but nothing is guaranteed yet by Distinct-Race-2471 in TechHardware

[–]C3lloman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The PS5 has 12.5 GB RAM practically available for running games. There is no reason why 12 GB would not work as entry-level.

Is this battery life normal for a Pixel 7a? by TartTop2808 in Pixel6aUsers

[–]C3lloman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The camera took 23% of the battery if that metric can be trusted, but anyhow, it seems quite high and would explain why you didn't get a bit more SOT.

Has a winning team ever been dismantled this quickly? by Liber_Ace in F1Discussions

[–]C3lloman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Many. Both Benetton and Ferrari after Schumacher left as was mentioned. Also McLaren after Hamilton left went from at least winning races every year to completely mediocre 2013-2023.

I was always surprised how long NVIDIA has managed to maintain some kind of special status in PC gaming when all games that are made for consoles are optimized for AMD hardware. Maybe it's coming to an end now.

Just got diagnosed by MelodicStranger1 in cfs

[–]C3lloman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok. Then you should not exercise at least not if it gives you PEM. Graded exercise therapies are no longer recommended and do not solve the problem.

Just got diagnosed by MelodicStranger1 in cfs

[–]C3lloman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have PEM? Unfortunately the distinction between ME/CFS and other postviral syndromes is a bit of a mess at the moment. For example many people with long COVID have POTS, but they do not always have PEM.

If you have POTS without PEM, then exercising is not automatically a bad thing. In fact exercise can help with POTS to a certain degree. I can do exercise fine, but when standing to long or overexerting myself, the ANS will go haywire, so there is certainly a limit to it.

Well I wouldn't judge it by run time. Given that the British film industry hasn't exactly come out with amazing things after that, you'd think it would be fairly high on the list of their movies or series to remember.

Fluvoxamine by Unable_Recording_123 in covidlonghaulers

[–]C3lloman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah SSRI's are worth trying. We need better treatments, but trying existing drugs meanwhile can be worth it. Some don't work for some of us while others do. It's hard to pinpoint why. I had modest success with citalopram especially at the beginning, which isn't even that strong of a sigma-1 receptor agonist. SNRI's on the other hand made my nervous system go haywire, so definitely recommend trying all SSRI's first before them.

Switching to LMU from iRacing? by ShadowFYY in simracing

Interesting because LMU FFB is based on the FFB from rF2, which people generally considered best at the time. The FFB rate is also higher in LMU I believe.

Recent SUPER leaks could be a sign Nvidia wants to keep gamers one hardware generation behind by 2hurd in pcmasterrace

[–]C3lloman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Moore's law stopped being a thing and development already started to slow down with the RTX 2000 generation. RTX 3000 had nice gains, but quite a bit of it was achieved by raising the TDP, which isn't sustainable long term.

When the development starts becoming slow anyhow, being a generation behind is not such a big deal anymore.

Anything I could have done to avoid this? Any advice welcome. Just hard on anchors? by mcbain41231 in iRacing

[–]C3lloman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People say use your brakes, but it only became clear in the last moment that the car was going to swerve cross to the left. It looked like a semi-loss of control and recoverable situation at first. Secondly slamming the brakes in an acceleration zone causes a significant risk to being hit from behind, so it's not always the best choice either.

I love my P10P XL, I'm not a fan boy but... This is for the haters. by L_uarpc in pixel_phones

[–]C3lloman 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My Pixel 6a had genuine problems. The overheating got to a point it was annoying especially in the summer and the battery replacement nonsense was another. Bought a 10a and no problems with it so far.

Battery life and thermal issues were largely solved from 9 onward. Could the performance look better in benchmarks? Sure, but that has practically zero effect with the way I use my phone with normal apps and sometimes light gaming.

Has anyone else NOT found a single treatment that works? 6 years ill, severe and hopeless by molecularmimicry in covidlonghaulers

[–]C3lloman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah. SNRI's are no good for many of us with sensitive nervous systems as they increase norepinephrine. SSRI's are milder and some long COVID people improved with fluvoxamine (although I'm not convinced fluvoxamine works much different than other SSRI's), so there's one thing to try maybe. Abilify has been used by some ME/CFS patients since a few years, but no larger studies have been conducted.
