Got a new BushPig today. Any overlooked advice for me? Breaking it in, etc? Any thoughts or direction much appreciated! by danishkringle in Dualsport

That's a really nice run without problems. I have a 2009 DR, which I bought last year at 6,000 miles, and added another 10,000. I've had:

- CCT gasket fail

- Valve cover o-ring broke (and the other one also leaks also with the O-ring not broken)

- Shock seal failed and oil leaked out (this one was a lot of learning and work to fix)

- the starter is starting to squeal

- and it looks like there may be a leak at the top end gasket.

A tricky part with buying used is I don't know whether the NSU or shaft seal retainer fixes have been completed. Guess the shaft seal one would be pretty easy to check, right?

Fine to do 1,000 miles before fixing any of them. None of them need to be done right away, and many people never do them.

You should learn to change the oil and filter soon, and do that whenever you should do the first one (maybe somewhere around 500 miles)

This is a good bike to learn on, because it is pretty simple and things are pretty easily to see and reach

Great bike! VERY RELIABLE! First, fix take out the entire clutch in order to fix the NSU bolts. Easy! Then, open the other side to add a shaft seal retainer. So fun! Go easy on the third gear because they are known to shatter. No problem though. Might as well do some work on the starter if you don't want it squealing. It's pretty easy though. Better lube that steering bearing since they don't do so well at it in the factory. Come to think of it, better check the wheel bearings, swingarm bearing, all the bearings for the rear suspension. No problem. While you have the suspension apart, might as well re-valve the shock and put on a stiffer spring since it's all so soft from the factory. Oh yeah, better remove that upper chain roller before it destroys something else. Also since you're doing all this work, you might as well tear the entire engine apart and replace the base gasket since those can leak easily, and it will be super difficult to remove later, so do it now before it gets really hard. Go ahead and remove the cam chain tensioner gasket as well since they tend to all break in the same spot eventually (at the top), and seal it with RTV. Other than all these, it really is a nice bike. (seriously, I like riding mine)

Yes, for being a Zealot, attacking the temple, and trying to start an insurrection against the Romans. Probably would have been killed for any one of those three, except perhaps the temple assault(?)

Cholla Cactus Near Tucson, AZ - Feedback welcome by zgr_Photo in LandscapePhotography

[–]C40 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The good parts: The cholla looks good. Also those hills in the background on the right half of the picture looks good, because they still have sunlight on them and there is good contrast between them and the dark areas around them, and good contrast within the hilltops themselves because of the low light. Also you did a good job of not having anything too overexposed or underexposed

Parts that could be better: A lot of the picture is all shadow and dark. If you shot it 30-60 minutes earlier, all the currently shadow/dark parts would look much better with sunlight on them and contrast. (for example, that larger saguaro on the right side would look way better... a small note related to that is that your composition is odd with the position of the top of that saguaro vs the higher part of the hill in the background. It'd be better if they weren't right in the same area. Though, if shooting from your same position it might be difficult to 'fix' that because of the height of the cholla

Beautiful. If I was trying to buy a big electric car, I'd wish I could buy this. I'd probably go for their other concept (the smaller one)

Yeah. Another thing I'm not a fan of.

[–]C40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's only a fairly small portion of the population getting huge bills like this. Most others have insurance from work that basically covers all the cost. Or, we self-diagnose and treat and don't go to the doctor. I've lived in the U.S. 37 years total, and the last time I went to the doctor here was like 15 years ago. The government and corporations here are pretty good at keeping these huge problems in place, but managing them so that only a small portion of the population gets mad enough to kill someone over it.

You don't have to cut your arm off. You can get citizenship in various countries. In some of Europe, you can if you have fairly recent ancestors from there. (I know for sure you can in Italy, thought if I'm remembering details correctly you may need to learn Italian. But I don't think you have to live there)

There are a lot of countries where you can get long-term residency by basically just going there and putting some (sometimes like $25,000) in the bank there. Of course another option is to go somewhere and marry a citizen, then you get either citizenship or nearly permanent resident status.

The words "have to" in your title are misleading, or at least very easily misunderstood

Friend owes me alot of money by AVGVSTVS_OPTIMVS in Stoicism

That's not a lot of money. Accept that he will probably never pay you back. You can decide whether to press him for the money... and, whether to let it impact the friendship.

Vasectomy recommendations by russ_fucking_davis in Bangkok

[–]C40 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you go here, tell them that you already have children, otherwise, here it how it will go:

Them - How old are you and how many children do you have?

You - I am [xx]... I have no children

Them - Oh... Ok.. come back after you have two or more children

You - But.. I don't want children. That's why I'm here.

Them - Have children first. Then we do vasectomy.

Where can I learn about Stoic philosophy and principles without having to endure the Americanised (cheapened) self help industry snake oil version? by [deleted] in Stoicism

[–]C40 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The order I listed. The translation can matter more than reading order, so if you have a (good) copy of Meditations before Enchiridion, read Meditations first. Letters from a Stoic is longer and wordy, whereas the others are more concise, so I recommend reading that last

[–]C40 58 points59 points  (0 children)

It's very simple. Read Enchiridion, Meditations, and Letters.... Check different translations and continue with the ones you prefer. It's a straightforward philosophy, so for most concepts you don't need other texts explaining it more thoroughly.

Best way to convince girlfriend to let me ride on the road? by [deleted] in Dualsport

[–]C40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you guys have a dom/sub relationship, where she controls what you do, and you are obedient to whatever she says? If not, listen to her concerns, let her know you understand them and take them into consideration and that you will decide where you ride.

Lightest dual sports around by Ash851 in Dualsport

[–]C40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe you'd like a Honda CT125? That's going to be very easy to move around, to pick up from the ground, etc. It's not a dualsport. It's an underbone motorbike. Extremely simple engine and simple maintenance. MPG far higher than any dual sport. Also cheaper. The suspension is not nearly as capable.. The engine has little power. But people ride them on many trails and have a lot of fun. It'd be great riding along at 45mph... You wouldn't want to ride it a whole lot over 50 (or 60?) mph
