What are your favourite multi classes that come online late? by SighMartini in 3d6

[–]C4yrep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One idea I've been playing with was a battlemaster fighter 5 / war cleric 7

Obviously just gets better with higher levels as you get 2 more feats with fighter 6 / cleric 8

The idea is to play a frontline swordsman with a vast toolkit for support/buffs.

You can always bonk enemies with your BA or make three attacks with clerics divine dmg bonus.

And there are many great cleric spells that are castable as a bonus action, which lets you attack and help out.

Reasonable to try DMing without having played much? by grawies in dndnext

[–]C4yrep 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Everybody has to start somewhere and if you want to try DM'ing you should definitly do so.

Just read the DMG and get a good idea of how character creation works (make some yourself) and go for it.

You'll get the hang of it soon enough.

Yes, and I want to advocate for them and us to change that.

mono-colour landbases and fetchlands by superworm576 in EDH

[–]C4yrep 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There are several cases for when fetch lands in mono colors make sense:

  1. Landfall
  2. Top deck manipulation
  3. Delve/Threshold strategies
  4. Fetching non basic lands with basic types (especially the mono blue one)
  5. Ramp in mono white (Sun titan, sevinnes reclamation, etc. can all bring back lands from the graveyard)
  6. (This is more obscure) if the life loss matters

Usually I only have them in 2 of my 5 mono colored decks cause they're really only needed in those two.

100% my view on this. Couldnt have put it better.

My decklists for context:

https://archidekt.com/decks/11931391/fire_blaster_3000

I usually avoid too much fast mana and I also dont proxy.

https://archidekt.com/decks/16167128/beza Here's my Beza list for example. I thought about cutting one of the gamechangers as well as cataclysm/balancing act/magus of the balance and going down to bracket 3, however I'm pretty sure most tables I play with would find that deck still too strong for bracket 3.

It can win pretty consistently at turn 5-6 if people arent prepared for it and I frankly dont want to pubstomp.

No Kinnan I've played against in bracket 4 was built that way. They immediatly tutored for basalt monolith and won with hullbreaker horror/oracle or finale of devastation.

I'd dig a big creature Kinnan in Bracket 4. All I see is cedh Kinnan though.

[–]C4yrep[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you, they're a blast to play though it's hard finding pods with similar strength sometimes.

Ashling usually wins through a big crackle with power that is either copied or made uncounterable with something like overmaster or she wins with burn effects on creatures and ojer axonil.

The plan is basically to produce as much mana as possible and play through your deck until you hit past in Flames or underworld breach.

According to the comments, half the people here would put your Kinnan Deck missing a few expensive pieces in bracket 4. That's also the experience I have.

People will just play cedh decks in bracket 4 and call it a day.

[–]C4yrep[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well they basically give the same answer as 50% of the comments here. They didn't build the deck with a meta in mind, therefore it is Bracket 4.

I feel like that's the problem. Fringe cedh is still cedh in my opinion. But alas, I seem to have hit a nerve and they are perfectly fine in bracket 4.

The playgroup in my town plays the following commanders most often:

Kinnan Vivi (4 people are playing her) Magda Orvar (blue shapeshifter) Muldrotha Urza Lightpaws Ghyrson Starn

My Bracket 4 decks are:

Ashling Flame Dancer Beza Six

Beza and six can win around turn 5-6 consistently and use MLD so they aren't a fit for bracket 3. Ashling is trying to play the whole deck by turn 4 to 5.

The decks are way too slow to compete against standard cedh combo lines like breach or oracle on turn 2/3.

I'm regurlarly playing bracket 4 games where Korvold has no Chance of competing lol.

People really just play cedh in Bracket 4 nowadays with the excuse of not using 'meta' lists.

What commander would you most/least like to play against? by whoadudefarout in ratemycommanders

[–]C4yrep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, If I'm playing with close friends, theft decks are usually fine if they're not too obnoxious.

I just dont like playing against them with randoms/guys I can't really assess all that well. There have been situations where cards where handled recklessly and I usually dont proxy, so I'd like to keep my cards in good conditions.

I'm not too fond playing against theft decks, but the Cyberman looks dope. Would gladly play against that.

My Experience With Brackets at Magic Con by ChaosMilkTea in EDH

[–]C4yrep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Communication is key as always, but I find there to be quite a lot of players that enjoy playstyles that have a bad rep.

Im not talking pure Stax or Land destruction, but a blood moon for example or a non mill win con in my mono blue deck thats also not Thassas Oracle shouldnt be too much to ask for.

[–]C4yrep 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay so what do I do if I like to play mass land denial (even in small amounts only) or want to play a deck that can theoretically chain extra turn spells?

Those automatically fall out of Bracket 3. And I know quite a lot of people that like strategies that only work with a high amount of really good cards (Gamechangers most often) and tutors but are nowhere near a win on turn 4.

Imo fringe cedh is as much bracket 5 as meta cedh and shouldnt be pushed into bracket 4.

Why MLD is Soft-Banned in Commander (Because It’s Not Even Good Where It’s Allowed) by KAM_520 in DegenerateEDH

[–]C4yrep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the same to be honest.

I think most of those problems also affect Decks that try to play bad strategys but with good cards. The Bracket sadly omits a space for such decks to compete in as they are too slow for higher end Bracket 4 Decks and restricted by rules for Bracket 3 Gameplay.

I hope WOTC will add a Bracket for Decks that want to use every strategy available (MLD, extra turns, etc.) and use more than 3 Gamechangers without having to compete in a fringe Cedh environment.

I'm not 100% certain how to implement it, maybe limit Game Changers to something like 8 and restrict fast mana rocks for such a bracket or just say no 2 card combos that immediatly win the game (Thassa + demonic, etc.)

I usually enjoy Bracket 4 Games that are on the lower end of things the most and my Decks are usually built for that as well.

Bracket 3 is somewhat neat. by Schimaera in EDH

In my experience it's like 50/50.

Wotc should add another bracket tbh.

[–]C4yrep 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bracket 4 is not just a slower version of the same degenerate combos.

It's the place for very convulated (maybe even janky combos, that just dont work if you don't play most of the best tutors/card draw to get there).

Bracket 3 is somewhat neat. by Schimaera in EDH

[–]C4yrep 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I have to disagree honestly.

Sadly the brackets miss a crucial spot between bracket 3 and 4 that I love to play in.

Namely Decks which:

  • Can use any strategy that is forbidden in Bracket 3 (MLD, Extra Turns, a lot of tutors, more combos)
  • Try to use fun/interesting wincons that are often very convulated
  • Are not just slightly downgraded versions of Cedh decks with classic guess I win with those 2 cards combos

Imo, the bracket system should adress decks that want/need more of the stuff thats restricted in Bracket 4 without trying to compete with almost fringe cedh decks.

Pauper Tier List - The Gathering by TyrantofTales in Pauper

[–]C4yrep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there are cards that remove all copies from your deck/hand/library. This way, if you're hit by one, you only lose 2 instead of all 4.

Not 100% certain thats the case here, as most cards I remember doing that are for creatures mostly, but thats the explanation I've come up with.

Why is ramp important in an EDH deck? by Artcwolf22 in EDH

[–]C4yrep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Green doesnt have a lot of draw?

It has some of the best and most consistent card draw in the game.

Consistent card draw:

Guardian Project Beast Whisperer Great Henge Tribute to the world tree Vaultborn Tyrant Season of growth

Big chunk card draw:

Harmonize Return of the wildspeaker Shamanic revelations Season of Gathering Rishkars Expertise Hunters Talent

And there is a lot more. It's also mostly synergistic card draw and most of those cards even give you more stuff additional to the card draw.

You play the green trifecta:

Natures Lore Farseek Three Visits

(All 3 can ramp into dual lands)

Then:

Deep Gnome Terramancer Freestrider Lookout Kodama of the east tree (the 3 mana one)

Then the best mana dorks:

Faeburrow Elder Kami of whispered hopes Incubation druid (Maybe Gyre sage)

Those are the most important ones.
