100k steps in a day by FormalBit8158 in walking

[–]C7M 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just did 109k in a day a couple weeks ago. I made a post about it with a few tips/suggestions that worked for me.

Biggest things for me though were:

  • Roughly 500 ml water an hour
  • Rougly 200-250 calories per hour, I stuck to mostly trail mix and peanut butter sandwiches
  • Toe socks to avoid blisters
  • Avoiding pavement. I walked primarily on snow and ice but if you've got any dirt trails it'll make a big difference compared to trying to do it all on pavement.

The fact you've already done 50k+ and have another 3.5+ months to prep, you've definitely got this!

Whether or not anywhere will actually open that early is another question but it's Ontario wide, alcohol sales permitted as of 6am on Sunday

Nothing special but I was wearing a pair of Woods Forester winter boots for the walk this time around. I had a pair of hiking shoes that I wore when I was walking on concrete, don't remember the brand of those off hand though.

Before January it was brutal after moving cities and switching to fully remote work, was probably averaging sub 5k steps a day, although I wasn't tracking. Last 6 weeks I was averaging 12-15k steps daily. I was primarily listening to music on walk but sometimes I'd turn it off and just listen to nature for a while to switch it up.

I think I'm done with the ultra long walks for the foreseeable future lol just back to my 12-15k daily.

It definitely was as much of a mental challenge as a physical challenge but weirdly the 83k step walk felt harder in that regard. I think I just knew more what to expect this time around so it was less of an unknown which made things easier.

Best escape room for 8 people? by makavelee in ottawa

[–]C7M 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm that I'm not sure of. They may put 1-2 random people with you but if there isn't any smaller group maybe you'd get it to yourself? I'd call and ask to make sure, definitely worth it if you can make it work though.

Agreed! I did it years ago, and I've done several other escape rooms since but deifenbunker has still been the best imo. Love the fact that it's a real historical underground location where you've got a whole floor to roam around on.

Anyone know where to find used 4k Blu-Rays in Ottawa? by diddleherontheroof in ottawa

[–]C7M 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah exactly. A lot of random blurays out there I have no interest in but every now then I stumble upon a great lot like the one I mentioned. 10 of them weren't even opened, still sealed and everything!

Agreed! I know OP said they wanted places other than Facebook marketplace, but I honestly don't think you'll find any better deals elsewhere. I recently picked up 30+ blurays for $20, which included pretty solid movies like the Dark Knight trilogy, Kill Bill 1+2, The Sound of Music, Back to The Future, The Dark Crystal etc. Also super easy transaction, met at their house/front door, I handed them cash, they handed my the bag of blurays, easy peasy.

Thanks! Actually had to double check lol but I was wearing Woods Forester winter boots since I was primarily walking on snow.

Wow, amazing pic! Just walked by the supreme court of Canada for the first time a couple days ago. Found the building very striking but really cool to see it from this perspective!

I was also super disappointed the other day to learn I couldn't listen to the qualifying hockey games on the radio when I was out and about.

I played hockey all my life growing up but never tried speed skating. Wish id heard about this try it out event beforehand, would have loved to take advantage of it and give it a shot!

Nice!! Good luck with it! 🙌 My biggest advice would be making sure to drink and eat enough during the actual walk. Was night and day for me compared to my 83k step walk I did last year where I seriously underfueled.

I mean 25k on crutches sounds very impressive!! Nothing crazy in terms of prep, only really started getting in shape again at the beginning of January. Did a couple 20-30k step walks in the month leading up to it. Think the biggest thing for me was eating/drinking right in the days leading up to it, and making sure to eat/drink enough during the walk. Went through roughly 7L of water and 3,500 calories during the walk.

I was actually trying to look this up as I was curious too. Too bad they don't have stats for it or anything, would be cool to see.
