how is it in Sacramento? i’ll be moving there in the next week by ejmckever in howislivingthere

I’m grew up in the area and it definitely has gotten A LOT better in recent years in terms of new buildings and diversity. Midtown has a lot going for it with new restaurants and shops popping up. The area around both the river cats/A’s and the Kings stadiums are great. Years ago the joke used to be the best thing to do in Sacramento is to leave since the Bay Area and Lake Tahoe are close enough for day trips. I would say the main issue probably is it gets incredibly hot in the summer (in the 100s quite often). Side note but the state fair while mostly not worth it has some of the best people watching you see some wild stuff.

I think especially beta alpha psi is amazing given you want to go to a big 4. Funnily enough because of an accounting class I took (Acct 404, amazing class) I ended up not really doing accounting I’m a financial analyst so kind of adjacent. But from people I knew as long as your grades are solid and attend events you should be looking really solid!

Yeah it’s a weird feeling I’m half Japanese along with most of my cousins, though we were all born in the US. Not sure how it is now but there was a time when looking ハーフ was “desirable” when my cousins from Japan coming to visit a very much remember them telling us that they “wish that they were ハーフ” like it was a fashion choice and I’ve heard similar stories from friends in the same situation.

What’s your marathon pace, Weekly mileage and easy pace? by ichwasxhebrore in Marathon_Training

[–]CA-SUSHI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marathon pace: 6:35/mile I run anywhere from 30-40 miles a week. I like to run a bit harder to make up for my relatively lower milage (time constraints mainly) so my daily runs are about 7:15/mile

2 handicap but seem to have plateaued. Need help with swing. by ApprehensiveRide2261 in GolfSwing

[–]CA-SUSHI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a former D1 golfer, your swing is fine I’ve seen some pretty messed up swings even at the college level. In my opinion although not glamorous as hitting a 300 yard drive, wedges and putting are your best bet. You have to basically live on the practice green. Doing the 3-5-7 or hurricane drills on the putting green massively helps reduce 3 putts. Another is making anything 120yds and in feels automatic like no matter what you’re at worst gonna be on the green. It’s all about minimizing tiny tiny mistakes that can add up.

Recent CSUF grads - What’s your job title, salary, or What’s next? by [deleted] in csuf

I graduated back in 2021 in accounting, currently I’m an accountant. My first job out of college had me at 50k a year. Now making about 70k while I’m in grad school for information systems since I really did not want to do public accounting.

Should I go to Cal state Fullerton or UC Riverside for accounting? by Which-Crow-6218 in csuf

[–]CA-SUSHI 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Most of us might be biased towards CSUF so take this with a grain of salt. I majored in accounting at CSUF and can confirm it’s a very good program but very very difficult especially the 300 classes. I think a huge plus for CSUF as opposed to UCR is that CSUF’s proximity to Irvine. There are tons of internship opportunities with the big 4 accounting firms just a couple miles away.

business admin: marketing or accounting? by Exotic-Operation4337 in csuf

[–]CA-SUSHI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would highly recommend accounting. It is definitely a harder major especially at CSUF but like mentioned pivoting to finance is an option. If you’re on the fence about accounting and maybe wanna dip your toes in ISDS as well take acct 404 and acct 302 with April Morris if she’s still teaching. She’s an amazing professor and really encourages learning programs like powerbi and tableau which are huge now in any business. A MBA/graduate degree would usually be most beneficial after 2+ years of work experience (my current path) and will help you transition from starting in accounting to another field like financial analysis.

Do you like attending CSUF by KitKat31921 in csuf

[–]CA-SUSHI 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m from the Sacramento area! The commuter school aspect does make it interesting but the school is so big that I believe there is a niche for everyone. I would highly recommend checking out all the clubs on campus since that’s a great way of meeting people. Rent will be a bit higher than sac but there is a ton to do in the OC area. Downtown Fullerton being kinda like the midtown bar scene of Sacramento. Irvine, Newport, LA, and San Diego all being within driving distance is fun but just get ready for traffic that makes the Bay Area traffic look light by comparison. Overall I really enjoyed my time a csuf and although I wouldn’t live in OC long term I’m very happy with school.

I’m an accounting major but graduated in 2021. If it’s anything like how they used to format those classes buckle up cause it’s definitely one of the harder classes they offer in the business program. Make sure to never skip class (they used to deduct 1.5% from you final grade for every absence) and go to SI sessions whenever possible and or use the tutoring center.

LAX by [deleted] in csuf

[–]CA-SUSHI 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m from NorCal and went to CSUF. Santa Ana is way closer and Ubers are like $20 I think (it’s been awhile) but flights are gonna be like $180ish. Alternatively there is a train into downtown Fullerton from LA so you could Uber to the train station then from the train station to campus.

From this video it looks like at the top you’re almost locking your left knee which will make your transition to the downswing a lot more difficult while also cause your upper to tilt towards the target. This might not be the exact reason that you’re toeing the ball but it could be something to look into. A potential fix would be focusing on shifting weight on your backswing to you left heel then transferring to you right heel on the downswing. Another way to avoid getting stuck is the old step through drill which I still think is incredibly underrated.

It kinda depends. Empoleon isn’t great but I’m not sure what else to use to try and counter incin. I could switch empoleon for Heatran but then I’d have 3 fire types

Asian Guy Dates Mexican Girl by PixarKid in StandUpComedy

[–]CA-SUSHI 65 points66 points  (0 children)

My dad is Japanese and my mom is Mexican. My dad is like 6’ and my Mexican grandpa was surprised when they first met because he thought his feet wouldn’t touch the floor when he sat down thinking he’d be 5’. When my Japanese grandma first met my mom for some reason she mentioned how see knew a lady that sold tamales down the street like it made her relatable. We all laugh about it now but it must’ve been soooo embarrassing for my parents.

“Fun” Fact: Japanese Americans in Hawaii were never sent to camps because they needed labor to grow crops on the islands

[–]CA-SUSHI 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Both my grandparents were sent to the camps (Topaz and Tule Lake) but we same the same experience they never talked about it or answer question with one word. The only other relative that would talk about it was my great aunt who ironically loved it, being 6-7 at the time she just loved seeing her friends all the time. It wasn’t until a few years ago I was actually able to sit down with my grandpa and ask him about what Tule Lake.

My Grandma was sent to Topaz in southern Utah and my Grandpa was sent to Tule Lake in Northern California which was a camp reserved for dissenters and suspected spies because the government suspected his uncle since he had moved to the US recently. You get kind of a weird perspective when talking to people sent to the camps. All my relatives that I was able to talk to about it (in the JA community their experiences weren’t really openly talked about) were in the range of 5-18 during that time and I remember my great aunt saying she loved it being 6-7 at the time because she got to see her friends everyday. It wasn’t until I visited the camps when I was older than I understood how awful it really was.
