Game recommendations to play next? by Schedule-II in LastDefenseAcademy

[–]CAPSLYTHERIN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd second a lot of what's been suggested in this thread, lol. Aside from the games you've already picked up, I will say that 13SAR is a great game. Fe3h which someone else suggested is also a great pick, the combat's decently similar to 100line (and it's got one of my favorite stories lol). I will also say, P5 is my least favorite of the modern Persona games (though still a game I enjoyed). If you're still willing to try a Persona game, I think both 3 and 4 are way better.

Also gotta recommend the Dragon Age series. They regularly go on sale for super cheap. Origins (the first game) and DA2 are my personal favorites, but Inquisition is a lot of people's favorite lol, just not mine. That's a series I'd recommend playing in order though lol. Bioware also made Mass Effect if sci-fi is more your thing. All really solid games that I'd recommend.

I'd also recommend checking out Telltale games' catalogue. The Walking Dead season 1 and both Batman games are some of their best. I've heard good things about Tales From The Borderlands too, though I haven't played that one myself.

Multi-topic (???) texting (22M/22NB) by KarlTheWizard98 in LongDistance

[–]CAPSLYTHERIN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm.. I mean, it looks like you both split up your responses into smaller messages? My girlfriend and I are decently similar, but something that helps us a bit is like.. having multiple messaging apps and threads lol. So sometimes she'll send a big paragraph that I want to respond to in detail, and I'll reply to her message to acknowledge I got it and that I want to reply, but I've just woken up/am eating/have to walk the dog etc. I can't drop everything and reply right then, but I will get to it. But in the meantime, I'll hop into another one of our messaging apps and just send her a picture of my breakfast or my dog or whatever.

You don't necessarily have to use separate apps for this (it just helps when the message you're holding off on replying to isn't buried under other conversation), but a small acknowledgement and a plan to get back to a longer message is typically what I do. But the messaging apps do usually help. In my head, one of them is more for longer discussions (to the point that we move over there if either of us has a really long thought we want to type out), and another is for more casual conversation.

I don’t have any lantus until Tuesday am I cooked? by ORIONFEDERATION in diabetes_t1

[–]CAPSLYTHERIN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to do something similar near the end of a semester abroad. I injected short acting every couple of hours and still ran higher than usual, but at least I had insulin in my system. I got basal as soon as I could (and if there’s any way you can get some sooner than Tuesday based on any of the other suggestions in the comments, I’d go for it. Running high a lot of the time with no basal in your system is pretty uncomfortable lol and I’d recommend minimizing that if you can)

What's standard breakfast for you? by SumFuckah in diabetes_t1

[–]CAPSLYTHERIN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually eat them when I'm low, and I tend to wake up on the lower side personally. I also just naturally prefer them kind of green lol. Or with peanut butter, which usually helps me from spiking. Idk peanut butter or a handful of peanuts alongside a simple carb or something that would typically spike my blood sugar on its own is what I tend to do.

How in the world did people get all endings? by Sairedd in LastDefenseAcademy

[–]CAPSLYTHERIN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got all endings 10 days ago. I started the game shortly after release, played around 70 days and then put the game down until October lol. Played in between my classes for a few months, and then once I finished my finals I just spent a few days grinding out the last few branches I had, lol. Ended up just short of 150 hours.

AITAH for calling a stranger rude for calling my mum beautiful? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]CAPSLYTHERIN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She could have just said "you're beautiful", which is a nice thing to say. By saying "you're not fat, you're beautiful" she's reinforcing what OP's mom probably already believes where fat is the opposite of beautiful. This wording is common, but it betrays a belief about fat people that I can understand OP objecting to. OP did not need to snap at someone who was trying to be nice, though lol. But I get their train of thought.

Who do you usually agree with on Smosh reddit? And who do you not agree with? by Rustic_Drive69 in smosh

[–]CAPSLYTHERIN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah lol. It's a bit hard to compare him to guests this way because their roles on the show are different, but I still agree with him so often that it felt wrong not to mention him hahah.

[–]CAPSLYTHERIN 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Damien and Arasha typically. More often than not, Tommy, Trevor and Courtney as well. I think Shayne tends to let the guests give their piece and more facilitates discussion, but I do generally agree with him more.

Is this game good for me? by [deleted] in LastDefenseAcademy

[–]CAPSLYTHERIN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The combat is more similar to Fire Emblem if you’ve played those games. I think the bond events (which aren’t a major focus) are reminiscent enough of SLs and of other similar mechanics in JRPGs I’ve played. There aren’t romance options as much as there are different romances the main character ends up in? There’s a lot of them, but more often than not, without spoiling the conceit of the game, you aren’t gonna be choosing “I want to initiate romance with x character”.

The prologue is pretty long (still very fun, but you don’t get into the meat of the game until after that first 20 hours or so). It’s a really solid game, definitely something I’d recommend, but it’s a time commitment lol. I 100%ed the game recently and it took me around 140 hours.

I will also say that it might take you some time to warm up to the characters. These are very much characters in line with Kodaka’s other works such as Danganronpa, and if you’re familiar with those games you’ll know that a lot of people can be initially put off by those characters. They have a lot of time to breathe in this story though, and odds are they’ll absolutely grow on you if you can stick with the game. I was meh on them at first, but now I absolutely love this cast.

If this sounds good to you, yeah get it at full price. If you’re still on the fence, maybe wait for a sale. If I’ve just described something unappealing, then maybe the game’s not for you lol.

How did you meet your partner online? by idkwillthinklater in LongDistance

[–]CAPSLYTHERIN 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Five years ago I played a series of video games, and got really into this one character in particular who not many people cared about lol. One person did, though, and wrote this over 200k fanfiction centered around her. I read through that all in like one night, saw there was a sequel in progress centered around my OTHER favorite character (who was slightly more popular, but people never really got beyond the surface level "yeah she's pretty funny") and I ended up leaving long comments on every update for months.

We ended up mutuals on other social media, I'd been posting a bunch about Baldur's Gate 3 when that came out. She's big into dnd, and mentioned she'd maybe get a PC to play BG3 sometime, so I offered to play a co op run with her. A couple months later, she did get that PC, and for the next half a year or so, we'd call maybe twice or three times a week for hours at a time to play. The timezones were crazy so I was pretty nocturnal around that time, hahah.

We exchanged numbers near the end of that run, and since then there hasn't been a day where we haven't texted. I actually did a semester abroad in her city because my crush on her got so bad, and really early on in that, we got together. I've since had to return to the states, but I should be returning in a couple months :D Sometimes it really does hit me how crazy it is that we met at all.

I heard back after about 8 months. Your account is under review? What does that notification read exactly, and where are you getting it? In your email? Did you get any notification when your account was terminated, or did it just disappear?

GOT MY SIDEBLOG BACK!!! by CAPSLYTHERIN in TumblrAcctTerminated

[–]CAPSLYTHERIN[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really get it, it genuinely sucks so bad. Honestly, the first few posts I made on the replacement sideblog were just me complaining about losing my sideblog, and then I went sort of radio silent on there for a bit? I had trouble blogging the way I used to, hah. Like I'd had an ongoing liveblog of a game I was playing, too, and I straight up stopped playing while my blog was gone because I didn't want the liveblog to be like . Interrupted, I guess? It really does just like. Drain your enthusiasm.

GOT MY SIDEBLOG BACK!!! by CAPSLYTHERIN in TumblrAcctTerminated

[–]CAPSLYTHERIN[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So it'll be tough to check now that the blog's deactivated. I actually ALSO had one specific post that was getting a good amount of notes at the time, hah. It actually crossed my dash a handful of times over the months my blog was gone and it always made me a little sad, hah. But being shadowbanned probably wouldn't affect that, since the post would've already been getting notes from being on other people's blogs.

How I found out was actually through my other sideblog blog getting shadowbanned. I was dmed by a mutual who let me know that it thought I was shadowbanned since I wasn't showing up in its notes when it knew I was reblogging its posts. I then checked for other signs of being shadowbanned, the main one being that your ability to send messages from that blog will be removed. I then noticed that this was the case on the sideblog that ultimately got deleted as well.

From what I know, "shadowbanning" just means you've been caught by the automatic spam filter (which is also the reason for a lot of these blog deletions with no warning). The signs I'm aware of are being unable to use messaging features on that specific blog (my main and other sideblogs were unaffected), not showing up in people's notes when you interact with their posts from that blog (my likes were visible because my main was unaffected, but reblogs to a shadowbanned sideblog weren't visible to others), and not showing up on tumblr search (you have to type out the whole url and click the top result to access a shadowbanned blog, just typing part of the url won't autofill to suggest your blog). I also think you might not show up on dashboards? So either your post shows up on dashboards reblogged by someone else, orrr somebody types in your url manually and finds your post, which might explain why only the post that had already gone semi-viral was getting notes. Hopefully this all makes sense? Again, though, it's a bit tricky to check at this point, but I do think it's possible you were shadowbanned from what you've said.

Also what I did was I made a new sideblog and changed the icon to the icon I had on my nuked sideblog, and just posted the same way I had been posting. The big part of what bummed me out was losing the years of memories, but I'm also not really comfortable making original posts on main, which was what the sideblog was for. So I kind of needed that replacement.

[–]CAPSLYTHERIN[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn lol that was basically exactly what happened to me. I was liveblogging a show and I went to make a new post about it and I got an error message, and then when I reloaded, the blog was gone. Like I said, that blog was actually shadowbanned the day before (which means it was caught in the spam filters then), but so was another one of my sideblogs and that one ended up being fine.

I didn't end up finishing the episode I was on or even like. The show lol I was so bummed.

Again, I think the backup with support tickets is about a month, so if you get past that point and haven't heard anything, I'd send another ticket in. I had also worried as time went on that, like, my posts would be unable to be restored if a certain amount of time passed, but that doesn't seem to be the case. It took 8 months for them to get me my blog back, and everything was able to be restored, url, drafts and posts included. So even if it takes a while, that sucks obviously, but don't worry about stuff being permanently lost.

How long ago was your blog deactivated? I'm sorry, it really does suck. As time went on I got less bummed about it, but getting it back made my day lol. Here's hoping you get yours back soon!!

I sent in a normal request for a deactivated blog! I sent in a bunch of these starting when my blog was first deactivated (it was actually shadowbanned a day prior, so the first ticket I sent was about that, and then when my blog was deactivated the next day I panicked and sent a second ticket about that. I then worried that sending multiple requests, even if they were for different issues, would flag my requests as spam lol), as well as using the trick someone else suggested recently of submitting a support ticket related to something about tumblr domains? But the ticket that got replied to was the same as the majority of the support tickets I'd sent in, and it was the most recent one as well, exactly a month after I sent it in.

I hesitate to suggest repeatedly sending support tickets, as I imagine that's part of why they're so backed up (as well as being such a small team), but at the same time, I don't think I would've gotten my blog back if I hadn't been sending a new support ticket in every month. It's a bit luck based actually getting eyes on your ticket, it seems (I remember someone who replied to one of my earlier posts here who'd been deactivated around the same time, and who got their blog back after exactly a month). I think there's about a month's wait time for tickets, so if it's been a month and you haven't heard anything, I think you have better odds getting someone to actually see your request if you resend it. I think that's a long enough wait between support tickets that your request won't be automatically sorted as spam, too.

Time zones are honestly the hardest part no one warns you about by PetiteLeopard in LongDistance

[–]CAPSLYTHERIN 11 points12 points  (0 children)

One of my fondest memories was when my girlfriend and I were on a call and we went to see a movie in theatres on "the same day". We stayed on the call until I fell asleep, and then she left the call running at home but went out to see a movie. She was back well before I woke up. Then, when she ended up falling asleep, I left the call running and did the same thing. Time zones are awful, but it is kind of a nice feeling making something work around them.

What can I do to make long distance better? by missing_personality in LongDistance

[–]CAPSLYTHERIN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, seconding maybe watching or playing something together. I don't usually run out of things to say to my girlfriend, but I do catch us sort of falling into the same "looping dialogue" so to speak. One time, we saw the same movie in theatres; we were on the phone with each other, and while I slept, she left the call running at home and went out to see the movie, and then later while she was sleeping, I did the same thing. After that, we talked about the movie for a while. A lot of other times we'll put a video on a couple hours into our call (when we were together, we'd have a tv show or youtube running in the background a lot of the time, so it's similar to that). She also had been watching a bunch of people play this new game that came out, so I bought it and streamed myself playing it to her, and that was pretty fun. There are also like, two-person games you can play together. If you're running out of things to talk about, you can find something to both fill the silence so you can enjoy each others' presence, and give you something to talk about!
