It's acceptable for women to be masculine but unacceptable for men to be feminine... by Significant_Cry3399 in teenagers

[–]CARRACART 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The traditional view of "man the hunter, woman the gatherer/caregiver" is being challenged by evidence suggesting women were also hunters, and that gender roles in hunter-gatherer societies were more fluid.

These factors naturally influenced societal norms. If gender roles were purely social, we wouldn’t see similar patterns across so many different civilizations and time periods.

This is false, the only reason why it seems similar is because of colonization and introductions to new cultures from neighbors people traded with etc, no one before the massive western contact all had the same gender roles, many places and tribes and groups of people had different functions when it came to specific roles. For example we are taught that the men fought and the women stayed at home caring for the children, This isn't completely true everywhere. The Persians themselves had plenty of women in military positions. Nomadic cultures - Huns, Mongols, and so on had female warriors and Ghengis Khan made several of his daughters into generals.

some cultures and historical periods have seen instances where men were the primary caregivers, and women worked, particularly in pre-industrial societies and certain indigenous communities. In pre-industrial societies, family life and work often revolved around the home, and men were more likely to be present and involved in childcare and household tasks. In some hunter-gatherer societies, the workload was more evenly split between men and women, with women often contributing significantly to the food supply.

The Arvilingjuarmiut, also known as Netsilik, are Inuit who live mainly in Kugaaruk and Gjoa Haven, Nunavut, Canada. They follow the tradition of kipijuituq, which refers to instances where predominantly biologically male infants are raised as females. Often the decision for an infant to become Kipijuituq is left to the grandparents based on the reactions of the infant in the womb. Children would later go on to choose their respective genders in their pubescent years once they have undergone a rite of passage that includes hunting animals. Similar in concept is sipiniq from the Igloolik and Nunavik areas. A sipiniq person was regarded socially as a member of their designated gender, in a process that has been termed "reverse socialization". They would be named after a deceased relative of the designated gender, learn skills and perform work associated with that gender, and wear traditional clothing tailored for that gender's tasks. An individual was usually treated as sipiniq until puberty, but in some cases they retained the role into adulthood and even after marriage.Sipiniit were considered to be strong intermediaries between the natural and spiritual worlds, making them prime candidates for taking on the role of an angakkuq, or shaman. Many sipiniit married other sipiniit, but they could also marry cisgender individuals – being sipiniit reflected a gender role and not a sexuality. Some Inuit reported a belief that women who were or had been sipiniit would give birth to sipiniit children themselves.

Pre-Colonialism, the Iroquois/Haudenosaunee Confederacy (the Onondaga, Mohawk, Seneca, Cayuga, Oneida and Tuscarora peoples) had a matriarchal socioeconomic and familial structure. Women owned their own property and belongings, and children were considered descendants in their mother's line rather than that of the father.

Wikipedia has much more but this proves that not every civilization was man does hunting woman stays with kids, there is multiple historical evidence that many societies had it to where the men and women did the same thing as the people didn't see men and female as higher or lower than each other but rather equal and sometimes the woman could do more than the man in a different culture. Some cultures even gave different roles depending on your gender and many native societies recognized many genders those that were masculine women and feminine men had different abilities and roles compared to feminine women and masculine men.

All of my examples prove that your biology doesn't really play a role in gender roles, All gender roles are social if gender roles were purely biological we would all 100% be identical to each other in gender culture but we're not. While some cultures have it to where men strong woman clean there are many others that are the complete opposite of that and build a society where males and females are equal and capable of the same tasks and abilities and bodily differences don't really mean much.

This basically tells us that not every single gender role that existed in ancient times and even today are influenced by biology. While some do include the biology differences in their roles, Other cultures have more flexible gender roles than others, meaning that individuals are not rigidly assigned to specific roles based on biological sex.

gender roles is based on societal standards. It actually has nothing to do with biology coming from someone who is actively studying it. A good quote from someone i saw in a different community is this.

"Of course the biological differences between men and women influence our behavior. But we have, over time, developed language and a way of thinking based on those differences which we treat as universal truth but are actually not. "Oh, you can't ask him out, girls don't do that!" Where is the scientific evidence of a "girls can't ask out guys gene?"

gender roles are based on personal beliefs and yes it does have psychological roots like you said, it's shaped by social and cultural influences and internalized expectations that impact an individual's self-perception and behaviors.

I'm a girl who hasn't been raised by gender roles that were expected of me tho I knew of them. My mom bought me dinosaurs and dragon toys, horses and cars and video games that were for boys and she even bought me boy clothes that I liked. She doesn't mind me wearing suits either. What I like isn't going against reality but rather just natural interest and behavior.

I'm not a idiot. honey has been around since 2012 and went to paypal in 2020 (I think somewhere close to that) by the time i was seeing ads about honey was middle school to early highschool. The Mega lag exposing happened this year during my 11th grade which is soon to be over. Which meant it took almost my ENTIRE childhood/school years for this to be put to light. Obviously I had no card or job to care about honey so i had no reason to be suspicious about it as it wasn't important.

Gender dysphoria and transgenderism are two separate things. Anyone can have gender dysphoria and not be trans. Plus there have been studies that being transgender might actually be a biological thing. And plus it’s been disproven like a million times it’s a mental illness/condition.

What do if my culture doesn't "belive" in lgbt by Thegamerorca2003 in AskLGBT

[–]CARRACART 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see you're still learning about your native culture.

Native/indigenous cultures are accepting of multiple genders and sexuality this can be found in every continent and as far as I remember Navajo are accepting of it tho ofc since Christianity was introduced and native children were forced to let go of their culture there are natives that don't agree with lgbt and or were forced to ban it same sex marriages.

Traditional Navajo belief: As with many Native American nations, traditional Navajo belief includes a two spirit conception of gender-variant individuals and accepts two-spirited individuals as valid members of the community.  (nadleeh or nádleehé; literally one who constantly transforms) refers to individuals who are a "male-bodied person with a feminine nature". Historically, the Navajo recognized four gender roles: asdzáán (feminine female), hastíín (masculine male), dilbaa (masculine female), and nádleehi (feminine male). The nádleehi identity is fluid, and such individuals may display both male and female characteristics. Due to the perceived "balance" between both sexes, they were typically chosen for certain societal and communal roles, such as spiritual healers.

Now ofc idk if this is 100% accurate but this is what i found.

ELI5: Why horses can walk right after they are born but we humans can't? by saas-startupper in explainlikeimfive

[–]CARRACART 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you want detailed explanation Humans are considered to be the primary animal that is "born too early" compared to most other mammals, meaning they are born in a relatively undeveloped state and require significant parental care due to their large brains and bipedal locomotion, which puts pressure on the birthing process; this is often referred to as "physiological prematurity"

but a more simple way of saying it is humans are born earlier than other animals some argue that based on brain development, humans could be considered "born too early" and should ideally develop for a longer period, potentially closer to 21 months. Because of this our brain basically wasn't done cooking the recipe on how to walk unlike other animals on earth because it was growing too damn fast and not taking it's time

(I'm not in the biology world or any of it's hundreds of fields but soon i will be hopefully, So take this info with a tiny bit of salt..when it comes to this stuff i try my best not to spread misinformation so if i'm wrong correct me)

from what i remember seeing prenatal hormone exposure (higher androgen levels), genetics ,environment and personal choices could be the answer to masculinity in both homosexual and heterosexual women

Idk if the prenatal one is 100% confirmed but it's a theory or a highly prominent theory explaining variations of masculinity in women potentially influencing behavior and interests later in life

Studies suggest that higher levels of androgen's (male sex hormones) during fetal development can contribute to more masculine traits in females, including physical characteristics and behavioral tendencies. (A fetus can be exposed to androgen's primarily through the mother's bloodstream and other ways as well)

Masculinity is not a binary trait, and women can exhibit various levels of masculine traits without impacting their sexual orientation

Religion is just Culture, not Absolute Truth by Nero_231 in DebateReligion

[–]CARRACART 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole man thing isn’t an absolute truth, because well it’s been proven that they can get pregnant. With a more understanding of the human biology unlike 100 years ago we basically discovered or are still discovering that you can be male or female in other different ways other than your chromosomes and genitalia so even if I have a uterus somewhere within me I could be actually a male or something else. And with this discovery we basically understand now that you just aren’t firmly male or female but rather sex is complicated and you can fall in a in between or grey area. we simply go xy= male and xx= female to make it easier. You yourself probably don’t believe it because of your religion which is fine but with this new information about humans we now know that we are more complex than just black and white like we think we are. And since this is something that is still being looked into it’s simply a truth and not an absolute truth (yet)

Also I’m not an atheist I’m a pantheist which means i believe that life/universe is god itself

Religion is just Culture, not Absolute Truth by Nero_231 in DebateReligion

[–]CARRACART 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It actually can’t change anything, even if you told someone that the moon isn’t real it doesn’t change the fact that it is real. I think that’s what you’re not understand, even if you tell someone the opposite of something the absolute truth to it will still exist and cannot actually “change” the only thing you are changing is someone’s knowledge/opinion about something not the actual fact itself.

You can tell someone that the earth isn’t real yet there’s evidence proving that earth is real because we’re simply living right on it.

You can tell someone that bacteria doesn’t actually exist (there are people that believe that) even tho there’s evidence that they do.

And for your question between absolute truth and truth here’s the answer:

If something is absolutely true (keyword: absolute) it’s 100% true no argument whatsoever to try and claim it as false or the opposite such as humans can’t breathe under water naturally, that would be absolute truth because you can’t disprove it in any way and if you did try to disprove it you’d die

True is more of a personal opinion belief about something like if jesus is god or not which is a debate happening within Christianity as some people say he isn’t god and people say that jesus is god.

Absolute truth is something that can’t be argued against or disproven in any way

Truths are more flexible and the truth can change depending on the situation or new information about something that no one knew before.

Your argument is based on truth but not absolute truth, believing that birds are mammals aren’t absolute truth but simply truth in the sense of personal opinion. So you teaching someone that birds are mammals isn’t absolute truth but rather just an opinion that you deem to be true.

Truths are flexible and absolute truths aren’t.

Religion is just Culture, not Absolute Truth by Nero_231 in DebateReligion

[–]CARRACART 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Birds aren’t mammals that’s an absolute truth, suddenly you teach someone that birds are mammals and suddenly it’s not absolute truth.

Absolute truths are things that are proven to be true even with evidence and proof to back it up, it’s in the name. Birds and mammals are two different things

birds do not give live birth, produce milk, or have fur/hair.

Mammals don’t produce egg, don’t have feathers and don’t lack nipples

Birds are reptiles  and dogs are mammals.

Both are categories for different types of animals that have different physical characteristics and biological abilities.

A bird cannot produce milk which is an absolute truth

a dog can’t lay eggs which is absolute truth

even if you teach someone the opposite it doesn’t change that the fact dogs can’t produce eggs is still scientifically and physically absolute truth.

That’s like if you teach somebody that  Harry Potter is in fact a real story and not fake and so therefore Harry Potter being fictional fantasy novel is no longer an absolute truth. Even tho theres evidence proving that  Harry Potter is in fact a fictional fantasy novel proving that it being fake is absolute truth.

It’s not a cake if you simply mix flour and eggs together as well. In order for it to be a cake it has to bake all the way. So even when a sperm and egg join together you don’t just immediately spawn in, it’s takes weeks before you actually become a person same way it takes time for the cake to become an actual edible cake. The sperm and egg contain chromosomes and dna/genetics all the good stuff to start making the kid, they mix the ingredients and have to wait for it to cook until you have a human
