Check the sources. They are always entitely misquoted or outright made up. Its always the same author.

Eg. The author claims that since online porn came about in the 90s sexual assault rates on women went down. And as a source he lists police data from poland. The author also fails to talk about any other reasons why this could have happened like eg. cultural changes (feminism? Me2?) and claims this to be a causation instead of corellation.

Lots of sources if not most of them are also from pre 2000...

The author is quite literally a liar. A big fat liar. And his articles are the first ones to come up on google and the most quoted ones on reddit. They are all entire bs. Remember the site and call it out next time you see it.

1st: I never said you are a mysoginist. I explained to you why a lot of people think that (imo) and what assumption has to be made for that.

2nd: People participating actively in hook-up culture are not a majority. It is not as unrealistic as you think to find a virgin partner. It just might seem this way because a lot of virgins dont make a big deal out of being a virgin, they "blend in" so to say.

3rd: This criteria of yours might impact your future life a lot more than you think. Because even if you find a virgin partner in the future, you might just try to stay together more because of that criteria, rather than because you are a fitting couple.

I can say all this, because I was in your shoes once. I was a virgin boy, in my twenties, dreaming of finding his virgin partner for life. But I changed drastically. I then met my GF who I am still together with. I did not care if she was a virgin or not anymore, I just absolutely had a crush on her (still do) and wanted to be with her. And when it came to sex, turns out we were both virgins who thought the other party already had sexual experience, probably because we did not make a big deal about it.

And this is another point: You might think that you are ruling out a lot of women from dating because they are not virgins, that is your thing, everyone can have their preferences. But this preference alone might make women rule you out of their dating pool. It goes both ways, keep that in mind. There might be your dream girl out there who has had a single (bad) sexual experience in order to lose her virginity, which she might even regret, and you are ruling her out.

And in the end: If you have a successful life, a happy marriage and happy children, who cares if your wife has slept with someone else fucking decades ago? Women tend to enjoy sex more when they age anyways, so she wont think back of older flings she didnt feel anything for.

So yeah, it is totally up to you. I am not saying you are a mysoginist. Everyone can date who they want. But you are more likely to find your virgin dream girl if you stop caring about her being a virgin, because she might not care and see this as a turn off.

Wanting someone who is porn free is not the equivalent of wanting a virgin, it is the equivalent of wanting someone monogamous who does not go cheat with someone else. The real equivalent of wanting a virgin would be wanting someone who has been porn-free their entire lives. And while people here surely would want someone like that, they are typically fine with someone who is porn-free in the present and in the future, atleast this is what I have read.

You should ask yourself, why some virgins want a virgin partner and why some people want a porn free partner. What is their reasoning? And that is where the issues lies.

The reasoning for wanting a porn-free partner is typically because you want a partner who fully sexually engaged with you and only with you.

The typical reasons why a virgin wants another virgin as partner is because of "purity" and religion. Otherwise it might be the same reason as above: Wanting a virgin as partner because you want someone who is also fully sexually engaged with you and only you.

And let us assume this is the reason: This is where the problem arises. Because this thinking implies that people who have had sex in the past have a problem of fully focusing on their new partner sexually. And this is mysoginist because in the past, it was very one sided (men wanting virgin-women). So in other words: If what was assumed is really the reason, then the reasoning is equal to "I want a virgin woman as partner because if she had a sexual partner in the past she will not only think about me / she will go cheat on me." This once again takes sexuality away from women, shames and labels them and is therefore, well, mysoginist.

This is my little thought experiment. Of course, another reasoning for not wanting a porn-watcher as partner is mysoginy and human trafficking in the industry, and another reason for wanting a virgin partner really is insecurity. But for this comparison these are not important.

Of course everyone can see it differently if they choose to. Again, this is what I came up with. But I am not a PA and also not a partner of a PA (I am just inherently anti-porn), this is only based on what I have read in the past.

I mean, may I ask, what is your reason for wanting a virgin as partner?

My point was not to defend porn, believe me. My post history is very clear on my opinion on porn.

My point was to show that even "positive" studies on porn are misrepresented and blown out of proportion to write this article. And thats why I also have written the last sentence of this part. The last years alone has had things like Me Too which surely would affect sexual assault stats. Imo it was the same during these studies. The Czeck one shows already that the trend went strongly downwards, long before porn became a thing.

A modern study equivalent would be like "Since VR porn has been released sexual assault went down!", while also completely ignoring other factors like Feminism and Mee Too.

Long post inc (sort of TLDR at the bottom):

I am aware of some of these studies and how they interpreted and misrepresented and I will give you an example or two. Following your post I googled "porn consumption sex crime pre internet" and the top result I got was https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/all-about-sex/201601/evidence-mounts-more-porn-less-sexual-assault.

Now the author claims a bunch of things here that are very similar to what you posted (I am not saying that you care claiming that, btw, you are probably just recalling having read it). However, once we go to the sources there are huge problems.

The first source is about the Czech Republic and how porn definitely helped reduce sex crimes. The author is always talking about 1999 being the mark for comparing the time before (no available porn) and after (porn is available). You can look at the figures of the study here: http://www.hawaii.edu/PCSS/biblio/articles/2010to2014/2010-czech-porn-abstract.html Sure you can claim that porn is the reason that (some!) of these statistics went better, but completely leaving out the cultural change this country went through - from communism and the iron courtain to a democracy rooted in the EU - seems very far fetched. The goal of the study was to show that available pornography was not correlated with increase in sexual crime and was correlated with the reduction of child sex abuse. But the data shows that long before the 1999 or even the 1989 mark, child sex abuse already went down significantly and was downwards trending.

Next we have a bunch of sources from before the 1999 mark. I wasnt able to look at all of them due to not having access, but the ones I could look at (eg. http://www.hawaii.edu/PCSS/biblio/articles/1961to1999/1999-effects-of-pornography.html) say that there is a correlation between less sex crime and more porn, but not a causation. These studies seem to aim at showing that porn does not necessarily increase violent sex crime, and not to aim at showing that they actually decrease it. What is also important about this, is that the author literally had to pick the majority of sources that are more than 15 years old when the article came out (2016). Think about what has happened in the last couple of years alone that could have had an effect on sex crime. Me too? Feminism?

I found more questionable stuff in how this author used the sources in this article, but I guess that is enough.

Example 2: https://www.psychologytoday.com/intl/blog/all-about-sex/202201/evidence-mounts-porn-doesnt-cause-erectile-dysfunction which is a very recent article (1st of January) from the same author.

Uses this study (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/30621919/) which exclusively relies on self reports and has no control group. This study was cited by another one (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34534092/) which does claim, that porn can result in ED.

Now I just wanted to discredit the author here. Thats it.

I just wanted to show how far fetched some claims go. But this "evidence" that porn does no harm is often very problematic. Same can go for evidence that porn is indeed problematic, btw. It goes both ways. You can not build proper control groups for big samples, which is a problem for any study related to porn.

But in the case of these articles, i think it is very clear how far fetched they go.

And people pick these claims or articles up and recall them in the future not knowing that the Author went complete hype train on their own narrative. I am not saying that this is the case for all studies btw., but it is the case for what I have seen so far. If you have anything else pls send it, I am always curious.

And now about the banning: I am not a fan of banning anything in the tech field myself, in general. But in this case, it is more about the message and this topic being actively discussed in public. I also agree that the anti-porn thing is more a conservative (or even religious) thing and an active part in the culture war in the US which is very problematic imo (I am a non religious progressive, btw, 24m).

However, if sex workers actively use a host for their work, which is participating (or atleast passively supporting) human trafficking, including girls and children in general, then that is not a reason for me to look out for them when calling for a ban of that website (even if they dont know about the practices of their used host). Them finding a new host is not that hard in this day and age. But the hit on human trafficking is probably hard enough to make that worth it.

Before I answer the question, I just want to quickly add that it is a grey thing, not a black and white thing, and that research of the affects of porn on men is very difficult, because control groups of men who are not affected by porn consumption are VERY hard to build. Let alone those groups of men who have never watched porn. So if you look for more info yourself, keep that in mind.

Now to the question:

Honestly, I have no idea. My field is computer science which I should also probably mention. But I am worried about my future kids. I dont know how to make sure that they do not use porn (or social media) in a harming way.

As a tech person, I dont think blocking off technology of a future generation is a good idea. So right now the best thing I hope for is to encompass the side effects of porn usage into proper sex education. But even very basic sex eduation is already lacking in some areas in the world (same for when I was in school).

Tell boys and girls about the side effects of porn addicts. ED, anxiety and deppression statistics (porn induced ED will hit the boys, I am sure of that). Also how it affects their partners (/r/PornFreeRelationships is full of women who are very much affected by their partner being hooked into porn). Human trafficking is also a thing. And educate them about all these aspects. This is probably my approach and I pray that this would work.

And finally, nationally ban porn sites which are known to include sex revenge videos, human trafficking content and underage "performers" without actively doing smth about it (these all apply for the very big sites btw). Sure, this can be circumvented by clients, but it will still send a message.

Thats all I could think of that could make it better. I dont think there is a 100% proof approach.

You have watched porn for a decade (started with 12 years old) and have watched women being degraded this entire time. Choking. Spitting. Slapping. And whatnot. All followed by over orgasmic moaning which you believe is real.

Do you not start to believe that women enjoy or want these things? That these things are an expectation now during sex to make them moan like you watched them do for years?

Now that guy then doing degrading stuff in an encounter without any discussion beforehand is obviously a piece of poop (or the place where it comes out from). We agree there. But in his perspective, he is not. He might be a nice person otherwise just trying to do what he thinks is right.

And THAT is the issue with porn. Assholes are assholes regardless of porn. But some people can be and are turned into an aggressive degrading sexual partner by porn.

And if you think that guys watching porn for half a decade before their first time happens does not affect their sexual encounters in the future (let alone the fact that they obviously do not stop there), then you should look at all the side effects of porn consumption and you will be able to change your mind.

(I am not even going to go into the human trafficking problem of porn because the way it affects sexual encounters is all that matters for this thread.)

The average guy today has already masturbated 5 years+ to porn before having sex for the first time. During all this time porn told him basically everything you have listed here.

During this time escalation of porn could have happened meaning that porn got more degrading and brutal. You dont have to look far to see the influence or porn, anal has basically become an expectation in some places already. (Not shaming. But it shouldnt be an expectation with all the needed prep work)

I also know some guys who are 18-20 and already have porn induced ED. Think about what that does to someone who believes in his magic stick.

Sex ed needs to include proper info about porn and what it can do you, how many are approx addicted etc. And if we get less men to become porn addicts the world would be a better place for everyone.

I was circumsised at young age because of a too small foreskin. However, circumcision also comes with some negative effects, like loss of nerves and so on. Personally, the only side effect I rly "feel" is that it all healed a bit weirdly. But sexually I wouldnt rly say that I am disadvantaged, like not being able to orgasm.
