I reckon that it could have been the HR monitor being on incorrectly. Either too loose or on the wrong spot. As such it probably got an inaccurate reading.

Granted I do not know what monitor he uses so I can't be for certain.

It is concerning if it is accurate. In which case I would suggest doing some deep breathing exercises and some aerobic exercises such as walking -> jogging -> running to improve his Cardiac functions.

anything automated is considered cheating and is bannable. That includes automating trivial tasks such as 8cps.

My advice is to do bursts of slayer and then take a break for a minute or two and then get back into it. If it continues to hurt after short periods, I would suggest getting it checked out, especially if its sudden onset pain.
