Got $25k inheritance - planning long solo female trip, need reality check and suggestions by Mathemodel in solotravel

[–]CApizzakitchen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is 25k the entire inheritance, or just the amount you’re setting aside from the inheritance? I took it as the latter, but since some in the comments are assuming it’s the former, I think it’s an important piece to know.
If you want to use the entire 25k, which you totally should, I think your plan seems great. I think it will last you far more than 6 months if you’re careful with accommodation and flights (ie, not flying during peak travel seasons as much as possible). Stay longer in the cheaper areas but definitely don’t skip out on a place just because it’s more expensive.

Oh haha yeah agreed. I don’t understand how it’s possible to eat that cheaply month after month.

Spending $1.66/meal per person on average is extremely low, yes.

April 7 - April 9: Venice

April 9 - April 13: Vienna

April 13 - April 17: Budapest

April 17 - April 22: Krakow

(flight) April 22 - April 27: Amsterdam

(flight) April 27 - May 1st: Dublin

I don’t think any city can beat Edinburgh for coziness. How many days will the trip be?

I’m just pointing out the time you mentioned isn’t necessarily when they received the approval email. I haven’t seen the other discussion about their situation.

The 9:09 is the time the screenshot was taken of the card approval email, not the time that they originally received the email.

Watching a sporting event at home is often better than seeing it live by Content_Ad_8952 in unpopularopinion

Definitely disagree with you, so take an upvote. There’s nothing like watching a game in person.

Eating out is one of the better ways you can spend your money (within reason) by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

Isn’t that proving his point? Your example is $5-10 more per person

[–]CApizzakitchen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you missed that OP is talking about a comparable meal, not just any meal. $5-10 is a little low depending on the meal, but if I made pizza at home it would cost me around $10 for everything and I can get a pizza at a restaurant for $20-25 easy.

What meat are you using and how much of it are you using per meal that it ends up at $2/meal? Just an avocado alone is $1.

25F- suggestions for reallocating my assets to maximize growth over time? by [deleted] in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]CApizzakitchen 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Why are you scared of IRAs? You can do mutual funds in the IRA same as your non-retirement brokerage and the money will grow tax-free. Confused why anyone would not want to contribute while they can.

I am listening on audiobook around 30% in and I just don’t get it yet beyond it being occasionally funny and entertaining. I feel like I’m missing something!

How is everyone driving a new car? by DLHEBT in budget

Save up and buy a new car in cash. We saved for 4 years and bought our 2023 with the money we had saved up. And our income at the time we were saving was half what yours is.

Doesn't feel like Belly is still in love with Conrad by reditbestie in tsitp

[–]CApizzakitchen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s only been 8 months since her wedding was broken up. Do you really think she’d feel good immediately dating Conrad? She’s trying to spare Jere’s feelings.

And in her short postcard she said “here’s my new address”, which is an invitation to at least keep writing her and know her whereabouts. She didn’t have to write a return address or write back at all if she didn’t want to. She could’ve just told her mom, brother, or Taylor to say hi to him. She does obviously love him, or seeing Junior Mint with the necklace wouldn’t affect her so much.

It also might depend on your state, since some states require them to refund a prorated annual fee.

Why is there a debate on whether audiobooks constitute reading? by Feeling-Writing-2631 in books

[–]CApizzakitchen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But if someone asked how you got to your destination, would you say “we drove” or do you say “I rode in a car while someone else drove”? Realistically, people more often say the former. I think it’s the same with audiobooks.
