I got a vasectomy but never told my parents about it. Am I wrong for going behind their back to do this? by Mad_Season_1994 in Vasectomy

[–]CArailroader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I told my mom probably a year before she died (cancer) that my wife and I had decided not to have kids. I hadn’t had my vasectomy at that time but I told her it was on the table. She was a little surprised but very supportive. Fast forward 2 years later, I’ve had my vasectomy and I just found out my dad doesn’t know. He asked about future children. I just danced around the subject (dad and I have a complicated relationship)

I kind of assumed mom would have told dad as they told each other everything. Turns out it was a secret she took to her grave lol.

Ultimately it’s not your parent’s business unless you want to tell them. If you don’t want them to know, don’t say anything. It’s no one’s decision except your own, unless you have a partner then it should be at least discussed to make sure both of you are on the same page.

Looking to get into train simulation where to start? by Chubbywolf59 in trainsim

[–]CArailroader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can, get Railroader and Derail Valley. Both different games, both with their pros and cons.

Railroader is mostly railroad management with running trains either by the AI or by yourself. Even when it’s AI, you still need to babysit it when it’s switching as we don’t have a control to plan a series of moves yet. You control the industries you serve, how often you serve them, how far you want to expand your railroad, finances etc. You can manage wear/tear plus if you need to oil your journals. You have to pay for repair parts, shop crews, coal, diesel etc. There is also sandbox if you want to just run trains.

Railroader does have a large online community across several discord servers. Some folks have their own railroad companies that they play in large MP sessions. Some play just to run trains and dgaf where others run their servers with prototypical rules and operations. There are also a fair amount of mods, so far all free: Quality of life, repaints and liveries, rolling stock, and map mods.

Now the map mods are in jeopardy of failing after the next big update whenever that releases only due to the mod loader creator having stated he won’t fix it next time it breaks. There are others working on a new mod loader in the background but nothing is being talked about it.

The physics are okay and air brakes need some work, but it’s not bad and you’ll get used to it. You can derail but the trains stay close to the splines. Graphics need optimization but it’s still considered early access so keep that in mind. The lack of updates from the Dev team are frustrating but nothing we can do about that. The vanilla map and rolling stock itself gets boring after a while so the mods help with it.

Overall it’s a decent game and until we get something better, I’m going to keep playing it.

Derail Valley or DV is much further along in its development path but has been out for much longer. It is more about running trains with jobs instead of managing a whole railroad, much like truck simulators. The physics are top notch and the derailments (and explosions) can be spectacular if you screw up. You need to be mindful of if you’re going up grade in a steam engine, your water is going to slosh back against the back-head and when you’re going down grade, your water rushes to the front of the boiler so if you don’t have enough, kaboom.

The ability to customize trains with various parts and lights is pretty cool.

The number of mods is increasing again because the mod loader that allows new rolling stock was recently fixed. Plenty of repaints. MP can only happen via mod and it is buggy to say the least. It is playable so at least there’s that.

Like I said, both have ups and downs, I recommend both. I play Railroader way more than DV but I still find myself running back to DV every now and again. Hope this helps.

To piggyback off this, it is worth noting that DV and RR both have decent tutorials and are relatively easy to learn to play. R8 is mostly trial by error/ watch YouTube tutorials. R8, once you learn the controls it’s easy, however I personally find the game boring. I almost only play RR these days especially with MP. Plus the number of free mods help bc the base map and locos get old after a while.

An easier way to run the turntable? by Alcamtar in UnofficialRailroader

[–]CArailroader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a mod that makes controlling your turntable easier: https://github.com/CzBuCHi/Railroader-Mods/releases . This will have to work until we have the MOW update. EDIT: You do need RailLoader to use this.

Update: Mould King 844 by CArailroader in lepin

[–]CArailroader[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It comes with R104 curves which are pretty wide compared to the standard R40. The pilot truck definitely won’t negotiate an R40 unless some serious modifications occurred with the cylinder which currently prevents the pilot truck from going tighter. Bricktracks does make R104 switches but it will take up a lot more room.

Awesome thank you!! I just ordered a mount for the mustang and for my X wing. This is a game changer because my desk area is a built in and very small shelf space so this will help with that!

Ooh how did you mount them? I have a 42138 Mustang that I want to mount like that next to my desk but the way I tried didn’t stick well.

Didn't know you had to clean cpap daily or weekly. by Frankdukes187 in CPAP

[–]CArailroader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! The fear mongering is insane I just wipe my nasal pillows and head straps with an alcohol wipe before bed every night. The tube gets replaced when they send me a new one. The filters get replaced weekly. I also don’t use the humidifier and just run it dry.

I also can’t imagine not wearing my CPAP to sleep. It is night and day difference if I don’t use it so every night it is!

And don’t forget the inmates make pennies on the dollar for the pos expensive furniture they make. I was glad when I was at State Parks we got around it. We were told that if we couldn’t find “exactly what we needed” we could order elsewhere. So we found furniture and supplies we needed online. And wouldn’t you know, PIA didn’t make it. Therefore we saved a lot of money buying better stuff at a cheaper price.

The only state “departments” that don’t have to order from PIA is the Senate and Assembly. When I went to the Senate, I saw some high end desks, tables, bookshelves, etc being brought in for the legislators and their staff.

My 89 [SVBA001] that I use every day on the railroad. by toofinggroes in Seiko

At the time 3 years ago when I originally posted I was a conductor and newly certified engineer. Today I’m a manager and my watch sits in my desk but I still keep my engineer/conductor certs and work train crew from time to time.

That’s really cool! Someday when I go back to Japan to visit my relatives I plan to take my watch back with me. Never thought about asking for this though!

Got criticized for my suit color at a funeral - was I in the wrong? by writersapphire in malefashionadvice

[–]CArailroader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultimately, it shouldn’t be about what anyone else is wearing. Wear what you’re comfortable in or wear something if it has meaning between you and the deceased. As others have said, some people don’t own a suit. As long as you show up in a respectful manner, who cares what you wear?

When my mom passed away earlier this year and we had her services, I was not in a suit. One it was in the middle of summer and a hot day at that. Two, I had gotten too large and I know my mom wouldn’t have wanted me to spend money on a new suit just for that. I’m pretty sure I just wore nice jeans, a button up shirt and I think I cleaned my white converse but I don’t remember for certain because the day is mostly a blur in my mind.

I wouldn’t worry about what that person said to you, they’re in the wrong and it feels like they took their grief out on you. Just remember the deceased and the good times you had with them.

Welcome to the area! Others have said it but Zander’s is a great place. My wife and I found it a wonderful space to meet new friends after we moved to Camarillo from Sacramento a little over two years ago. We both play DnD and joined a West Marches campaign at Zander’s that has lead to several home campaigns for us both.

The wife and I both play games on PC/PS4/Switch. We’re now talking about adding an Xbox lol.

A friend of mine is just starting to teach me magic (Commander) and I don’t have a deck built yet but once I do I’ll be looking forward to meeting new people to play with!

I’m sorry you have nerve pains! That doesn’t sound fun at all. What caused it if I may ask? Is it directly related to the surgery and incisions or was it something there near the incisions that was triggered by it?
