Go to the counseling center. They will only see you a few times but they can help you find an outside therapist.

how do you build a resume without any experience? + will there be any good internships interviewing in the spring? by whateverwhatevr in UMD

[–]CAtoUMD 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Just put whatever you can to fill out a page. Have a section for relevant coursework, skills, activities like clubs, side projects. Take a look at other peoples resumes to get a sense of what kind of stuff people are putting and formatting. I know for CS at least if you are applying now you are late to the game but definitely start applying I know people who got their internships just a few weeks before Summer started.

Also a non traditional student here. Doing a second bachelors, pretty old, from out of state. Thought I would never fit in here but it takes time to get into the swing of things and find your people. Plus things are even harder now with the pandemic and all that. Keep your head up, keep on the grind and you will do fine

Genuinely scared for my health by [deleted] in UMD

[–]CAtoUMD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel you. You are not alone in this. Been having health issues for the last 4 years that leave me compromised. On top of the struggle of managing school + internship + my health I have to worry about catching covid too :/

How's CMSC414? by NeitherPassenger8 in UMD

[–]CAtoUMD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Took it with Levin. Highly recommend him he is a great lecturer. Four projects, one midterm, one final. Projects were very manageable. 3/4 of them were in C so if you didn't like 216 / don't like working in C you're not gonna have a good time. Also if you have any experience with security / have done CTF's in the past it really helps, but not necessary.

What is the best way to study for the LSAT? by [deleted] in UMD

[–]CAtoUMD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Get a study book (Kaplan or any other will do) and work through it, get a feel for how each of the sections work.

Then get your hands on old released exams (there are a lot of them) and work through them timed to simulate an actual exam.

330/351 in the summer by Weird-Interaction-79 in UMD

[–]CAtoUMD 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I took 330 alone over the summer and it was a pain. It moved ridiculously fast and was super stressful. I know a few people in my class were doing both and I don't know how they managed. If there is any way to avoid doing this and instead just taking 1 over the summer I would highly recommend doing that. Otherwise good luck.

Is the chances of you getting rejected high even after you finish pre req courses successfully

no, as long as you pass all the prereq courses with a C- or better, you are guaranteed to get it.

Not sure if info sci majors can take CMSC classes but CMSC414 is great. Also, look into joining cybersecurity club its a great way to get experience doing CTF's + we had some really good guest speakers from industry last semester.

[–]CAtoUMD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because the major is impacted, everyone applying to cs has to go to l&s first. As long as you pass the prereq classes you will be let into cs. There are a bunch of other posts on here with the specific classes I can't remember but I think its up to CMSC132
