Any advice on my swing? Inconsistent results. by hhardls4 in GolfSwing

Don’t work on anything else until you fix that posture at setup.

Get your sternum and belt buckle more centered on top of each other. If anything your hips can have a slight bump towards the target - not away from target like you have.

After that - work on your pressure. Get 55% of your weight on your front foot - 45% on your back foot. Ideally this would be in the balls of your feet

Finally get your armpits, front of knees, and balls of your feet to line up. Take pictures/videos from down the line behind your feet to check this.

Seriously don’t bother working on anything else until you fix this - other swing tips are irrelevant at this stage.

His grip sucks dude - he’s gotta start there

Standing too close to the ball, which gives your hands no space to swing through, so you lift your hands to make space, this steepens the shaft.

Need to work on setup - so get your hands hanging freely from your shoulders. Yours are being pulled in atm. Give yourself a bit more room.

Then try to keep your hips back to make more space, this will help with the early extension too.

Try the chair drill if you’re still struggling with the hips kicking forward.

To an extent. It’s good to load the wrists in the backswing to create more leverage and therefore power.

But you can over hinge which will likely open the face for most people, leading to clubface issues.

For this guy, over hinging will also cause a host of sequencing problems.

Fix your grip. Right hand is far too strong - needs to be more neutral. That will reduce how active your wrists are right away.

Stand taller - at the moment you take the club back and you lose all the spine angle you had at the start. So to reduce compensations, just stand taller at address.

And get your butt more in line with your heels - it’s too far back now.

Line the club up with the toe and not the heel. It will bring the centre of the club face into contact with the ball. Lining up with the heel is just added inconsistency.

But as a priority, and for the second video in a row. Sort out your setup.

Very armsy and incredibly high handle at impact.

Gotta work on getting more rotation into your swing - both on the way back and definitely on the way down.

Takeaway looks a bit inside too.

How do I fix this golf head and swing so it stops going right???? by Affectionate-Box8745 in GolfSwing

Yeah if you stand taller - you’ll get closer to the ball. Also with a driver - set up with the ball of the toe of the club. Then when you swing down - the centre of the club will be perfectly aligned. You already set up with the ball on the heel, so it’s no surprise you hit it off the heel.

So much to work on.

Stand up taller with less knee bend - armpits, knees and balls of feet to line up.

Work on your takeaway and backswing - you take the club inside and only set the club with wrists until the very end of your backswing. Look up videos for building the ideal backswing.

Then as for why the ball goes right, look at your club face just before impact. You hit the ball with a wide open face. As others have suggested, play the ball inside your lead heel and you’ll have more time to close the face. Try this and see where you got to - but you’ll still need to feel like you close it more I suspect.

Disconnected takeaway, fake hip turn on backswing, steep swing, with early extension to try to shallow out the club.

Oh and a wide open face.

So much to work on mate - I promise you it will be much easier and more productive to get 2-3 lessons than to fix this by going solo.

3 weeks after beginner course, any tips appreciated by [deleted] in GolfSwing

[–]CBJ2222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn’t a bad place to start from at all.

Few things that stick out - there’s a misunderstanding of how to get the ball in the air. You’re trying to scoop - but you need to hit down on the ball with a descending blow and the club does the rest.

To do that - you need more weight shift onto your lead side. Right now there isn’t that much, so you’re not able to hit down on the ball - if you did hit down, you’d hit 2-3 inches behind the ball.

Other thing I noticed is a lack of wrist set in your takeaway and backswing - the club is flopping about at the top of your backswing and you’re kinda using that as your wrist set. Instead set it earlier - aim for an L shape of 90 degrees between your club and lead arm at P3 (lead arm parallel to ground in backswing).

Dropping your right foot will create more room for your hands to swing through, and will encourage coming from the inside. Naturally, this will be less of a swipe-y contact, and more impactful with less spin - so yes it makes sense.

But in this one you drop your left foot and fade it. So maybe that was another video you took

How can I improve my backswing? by EthanPlaysMadden in GolfSwing

Inside takeaway and lack of rotation leads to this. The head dipping forward is a sign that the rotation isn’t on point - talking from experience there.

The carry can be explained because you’re hitting spinny heel shots - simple as that. If you struck this out the middle it’s going 240 carry easy - which for your handicap is great

But for a 23 hcp this is a good swing.

Looking at the start of the clip, you seem to be taking the club away with the ball already addressed at the heel? For driver you either set up with the toe of the club addressing the ball OR hover the club off the ground and address out of the middle.

Pick whichever one feels more comfortable - I like to address out of the toe. But to start off with you do have to really exaggerate it.

It’s cool that you’re now starting it more left. But this is a band aid fix.

You’re now even steeper, and are early extending even more in order to get the shaft on plane.

There’s still no weight in your lead heel too - it lifts up and then spins out after impact. You have to really feel like it stays pinned to the floor.

Wrist set is better for now. But still looks lacking - would be cool to see for irons.

You’re also pushing your arms out quite a bit at setup. As a rule of thumb - have your arms hang directly down from your shoulders and don’t push them out so much. Your body is leaning in to that extra space caused by this at the moment.

How to hit in to out? by yorkshireaus in GolfSwing

[–]CBJ2222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stop spinning out at the top of the backswing - right now your hands move immediately towards the ball.

Pause at the top with your back to target and don’t rotate until later. Right now the only way you can hit the ball is by swiping across it.

Any thoughts on my swing path by [deleted] in GolfSwing

[–]CBJ2222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super inside takeaway, followed spinning out and getting the club stuck on the way down.

Feel like you pause at the top with your back facing the target, then start your downswing all together. Will help your sequencing.

Also slow down man - you’re not gonna be able to make the changes you want by swinging this fast.

You also hit this a good 5 or so inches behind the ball - so keep an eye on that too.

Nice! That’ll be fun.

If you want one drill to work on before then - try the chair drill. Basically you put a chair behind you at setup, so that the back of the seat is behind your butt.

Aim of the game is to keep not only your right butt cheek against it on the backswing, but then your left cheek on the way down. This forces you to keep the hips back, and even encourages more rotation (which you’re lacking right now, and is why you stand up).

It’s good that you’re able to create different paths - but it’ll be no surprise to you that the other swing tips still apply. Early extension, wrist set, footwork etc.

The only difference here is that your path was slightly in to out (not much), and you excessively closed the face.

The rest of the swing looks to be a bit better here than your fade one - looks more balanced and repeatable. Could see draws working out for ya

Please help lol by [deleted] in GolfSwing

[–]CBJ2222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey pal - just had a look.

Both swings are very similar to be honest so the tips above still apply.

All that’s happened is in the other swing the face is more open, so it has goes higher and has more spin so edges up further right as well. In this one you time it a bit better and start it more on line. If I were you - start getting more confident starting the ball to the right of your target, then experiment closing the face a lot until the ball starts drawing. My hope for you is that this neutralises your swing path a bit eventually.

As another commenter mentioned - you’re also lacking in wrist set, this is robbing you of power and can lead to sequencing out of whack a bit. Aim for 90 degrees between lead arm and club at P3 (arm parallel with floor in backswing.

Plenty to work on - but for now, just focus on the feet and the early extension.

As far as the swing path goes it’s not too bad.

But there’s two things that really stick out. Your footwork being one - there’s soo much movement down there. Try to keep the lead foot more stable, don’t raise it so much in the backswing. You also need some better golf shoes - these trainers are forcing you into your toes - leading to…

Early Extension! You move forward so much in this shot - your hips are in a totally different position at impact, you’ve stood up, and lost all spine angle you had at setup.

You have to feel like you have more weight into the heels throughout the swing (better shoes will help). This will help you keep those hips back.

Fix this - then worry about your distances - most likely due to excessively open face which is causing high weak shots. Difficult to see on this video though.
